I'm from the isle of Wight - living in the US for nearly 25 years. Your commentary was smart, insightful and v impressive. You have a better handle on us than we do at times. Thank you.

Brits are more chilled than Americans. We don't take ourselves so seriously imo.

I am British / Irish as I have dual citizenship. I have a London accent. I have been to the United States for a three week holiday some time ago and for me it was like going to another planet that was not Earth. I found the Americans far too friendly and very nosey. They are loud and will not stop talking which becomes very annoying. They are seriously brainwashed and have absolutely no idea what it is outside in the real world or they think that they know everything which they do not. The Country is beautiful and amazing, but the people I am not a fan of or American so called culture. The only Americans and culture that I did like was the native Americans that I met who were amazing people. Should of gone to Canada for that three week holiday. I have been to many countries in Europe for my holidays and I love the countries and there citizens. My favourite city is Stockholm, my favourite country is the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the whole of Scandinavia, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Cyprus and many more. My heavenly places are Cornwall and the Highlands of Scotland. So I am not a fan of Americans or there so called culture and I have absolutely no interest in America. 💂‍♂️🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇮🇪

I have not visited the country, but from comments like yours it seems as though it`s like being the only adult in a room full of teenagers .

@Jill-mh2wn you will get some people that like the United States but as a proper grown up adult, I found the people were like robots who were annoying and totally brainwashed plus very uneducated. Like I said I should of gone to Canada for my three week holiday. I would not stop anyone from going as they have the right to make there own mind up after experiencing it. But for me it was very fake and like being on a planet that was not Earth. I have been once but never again. The country is beautiful and amazing but it's everything else. There are far better countries on the planet that are beautiful and the people are genuine and are not brainwashed. 💂‍♂️🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇮🇪

Hi sweetie. As a Brit who was married to an American for 15 years I have a bit of an insight on this subject.
With regards to the British accent thing, Every time we went to an American shopping mall we would get free stuff from the food stalls that are set up. My boy had the most perfect received pronunciation English accent aged 5. I have no idea how he got it because I'm cockney & the wife was from Virginia. He would say "Hello, How do you do" & the woman at the stall would just melt, a lot like you do, & she'd give our kids freebies.
I don't think we down-play ourselves, I think we're just more modest about how we project ourselves.
Americans tend to project themselves like a second-hand car dealer selling a car.
I think it's the "can do" attitude which is rooted in the fact that they had to start from scratch in a strange land.
As the guy said, most Brits didn't fancy taking the risk of going on a dangerous journey to an unknown land.
The ones that did go were the ones who had an adventurous personality & probably had nothing to lose, & those are the ancestors along with other Europeans who survived & built the country.

The unicorn became an extremely popular symbol of Scottish royalty, and is still used today. Since 1603, the royal coat of arms has featured the unicorn of Scotland on one side and the lion of England on the other

yeah if we are introducing ourselves or friends to other people, we try to make them relatable as human beings instead of making them sound like the most amazing person ever....

Both my natural parents were American, but I was born and left in London in 1975. I've always had such a positive "I can do anything I put my mind to" attitude, even amongst people who looked at me as odd and weirdly upbeat. I guess being born from the people who got on that boat really is true because, being adopted by British parents, I never had any American parental influence but had all the "if you can dream it, then you can do it" energy that drove those parents to hell😅. At 16, I forged my dad's signature on a passport and hitch hicked across france to South Spain, and none of my school friends would come with me. I stayed in spain for years.
That A B those that got on the boat logic adds up in my case. 😊

The Lion Rampant is the symbol of royalty in Scotland and is featured in the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom. The lion represents strength, courage, nobility, and military might.
    History
The Lion Rampant may have been first used by William the Lion in the 13th century
Alexander II used the Lion Rampant as a royal emblem in 1222
The Lion Rampant was incorporated into the Royal Arms of England after the Union of Crowns in 1603
The Lion Rampant was incorporated into the Royal Arms of the United Kingdom after the Act of Union in 1707

I am American and have resided in England for thirteen years. Generally, I am well received; it is not the people but the constantly shifting culture and certain government issues that present challenges. The UK faces similar problems with culture wars and governmental matters as of late.
Additionally, I often encounter Brits who compliment my accent. Americans appreciate accents so it feels unusual to receive remarks about mine. :D

Both of these guys are from more the Northerly parts of England, you can tell by the way they pronounce certain words. I beg to differ with their statement concerning everything outside of London being poor. Maybe less wealthy but not poor. Yes London is hugely rich compared to the rest of the country, however most of the South-East of England are definitely not poor. There are also plenty of wealthy enclaves around the rest of Britain. This is a generalisation too, as there will still be poor areas within the wealthier ones.

We might be financially poor..But most often that's because ( Particularly of 'actual' Christians)..Money being "The root of ALL Evil )..Is not the be all and end all in Life for we True born English people living in GOD's country..LOVE of All things of Our Lord's Creation is.
Gaining an education is NOT seen by all of us as simply a means to make Money..I'd rather make somebody laugh than make a few quid. And my favourite sound is the genuine joyous laughter of our children living a life of safety and contentment surrounded by the hedges of protection by the blessing of The Covering of the Living Blood of Our Lord Jesus..( A child finding pleasure in checking out insects and flowers in a field are happier than a child working for pennies in a mine .🤔.
Have a glorious day ..From the skint but contented in Life ,by our Lord in England .💪
