      Nice taste... One of my high school friend's dad bought an '03 S55 brand new. That thing had some serious pull for a huge boat. We "borrowed" the keys late one night and took it to the street races where it embarrassed a Mustang Cobra, a tuned 300ZX and RX7 as well couple built musclecars. The car was so new most people didn't even know what it was and couldn't believe that it was factory supercharged with nearly 500 hp.

    Deja Vu! Bought a 1969 AMC AMX in Feb 2020 that has the MSD 6A ignition. Half way from TX to PA after buying it I experienced the engine running after the key was turned off. Did what MSD said - diode first, didn't fix it, double ballast resistor second, didn't fix it. After tracing wiring and checking voltage, found my own starter solenoid sticking on (not to crank the starter, but to retain power to the Ignition post on the solenoid! A tap on it like Uncle Tony did and I went to zero volts. Put a new solenoid on, no more engine run-on! I love these videos, I am learning a lot. I appreciate Uncle Tony and others sharing their experiences and knowledge!

    • @nathanknackstedt2414
      @nathanknackstedt2414 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Austin, I think the problem may be that the Ford ignition sends 12V to the coil when cranking but only 8V +/- through the resistor wire when the switch is in the run position. If your MSD distributor is like mine, it requires the full 12V to function properly. Try a jumper wire before throwing that new switch to see if it makes a difference. Nice truck, though.

    • @Zephyrmec
      @Zephyrmec 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or toss a Ford yellowtop coil in it, FE with .035” gap runs great up to 6-6.5k with them, higher if it hasn’t been cooked with 12v by not running a resistor wire.

      Pencil lead is graphite. Aluminum and graphite dont get along and the aluminum corrodes.
      Graphite is also conductive and can float into the electrics and short it out.
      Got any more great examples?

    Tony worked on several vehicles that acted identical to what you were fighting with. Every time it turned out to be a failing condenser. What I do now is use a cheap E-bay Scope meter and look at the coil signal. Should be a nice clear squared up pulsed signal. Another I find is that someone before worked on the vehicle and got the polarity of the coil backwards.
