Excellent explanation Emma and really interesting - thank you 👍. At a time when the UK needs more students of geology, the building of the channel tunnel is an ideal project to demonstrate the practical applications of geotechnical engineering, and maybe inspire more young people to consider the subject. If the chunnel project is not on the National Curriculum, maybe it should be
Thank you for that brilliant lecture. I love it's affectionately being called the chunnel. What an amazing engineering feat.
11 tunnel boring machines took part in the tunnel project at a cost of 15 million quid each...at any one time only two machines were in use.one sold on e bay for 40 grand in 2004....the final one used on the french side was dismantled, the one on the british side was rolled over and buried in the tunnel..on the French side a couple of million tons of tunnel spoil were used to landscape over a ww2 german cross channel gun battery position, turning it into a nature reserve with a few lakes...surprisingly of the 15,000 people involved in its construction, only 10 people were killed in accidents. Really good informative video but sound is a bit low..
very interesting presentation, keep up the good work
Great subject, I like the geoengineering content in your channel. Of course, everyone loves an ichthyosaurus, but where geology intersects with modern life is equally interesting.
Very well presented topic!
Superbly done Emma! Beautifully illustrated. Impeccable delivery. As a geologist myself I thoroughly enjoyed it. Crossed the Chunnel in ‘95 with my new bride to vacation in Normandy. Fantastic experience. Keep up your excellent works.
Thanks for posting, very interesting.
What an interesting and informative video. Thank u for making this
Yes, the volume is low (I had to crank the monitors to otherwise-dangerous levels to hear you), but the content is well-presented. You do not get much into the geological context, which is an unexpected result, but you do a bang-up job on the mechanics of the deed and some of the consequences of the build.
Superbe vidéo Emma, merci !
An absolute amazing feat of engineering and construction! Thanks for telling us more about it 👍.
Excellent video, thanks
the chunnel was one of the few times I took a train in recent years
quite quick and efficient...comfortable, just sat in my stationary car for 35mins
Very interesting, I’ve learned something new , brilliant, peace ✌️
I love all Your videos Emma!
Beau Travail comme d'habitude🎬🔬🍀👉✈🙏🌌😉
Great video thanks Emma.
Cool!
Phenomenal video, Emma!
Isn't geology amazing....
I already love you. Talk nerdy to me! 😂❤
New subscriber here. Very interesting indeed.
Super bravo em 😊😊
Hey Emma! Great topic, but it's quite hard to hear! Think you can adjust the audio? Thanks!
Oh no 🫣 I will try and increase the audio on TH-cam...but i may have to reupload it 🤞 thank you for letting me know 😅
very interesting - thanks. nice outfit, btw.
La belle Emma en Bleu Blanc Rouge 😍
I'd much rather watch "Chunnel" than "Prognosis Negative"!! ;-)
Good content but the volume makes it hard to hear.
Interesting theme 🙂
Is it ok if i ask if the sound output is very low on the video? Had to turn the sound almost full on to hear what you said, both on my phone and my tv.
I'm trying to fix it, but I might have to reupload it 🫣 sorry about that!
@@EmGemsaw dang.
hope it wont be to much work for you, its the bloody friday evening now o.O
With all its money, you'd think TH-cam would manage the sound better at their end.
