Sir I am amazed to see your demonstration and explanation about the effect. I can certainly sayy it was better than Veritasium and provides a greater insight with that handy model👌👌
Also, I think due the acceleration of gravity we ourselves become an obser in non inertial fram due to which a force of gravity is also added which abruptly affects the amplitude of oscillation of the joint masses .
    🙏🙏❤

My hunch is that the apparatus used to hold the model in orientation and in rotation causes extra losses in the center bearing due to the twisting force applied to it by gravity and inertia of the swinging arm. In orbit, no apparatus is required and it is in free fall, the model is free of external torques which limits inertial losses to air resistance so the oscillations are less damped..

Interesting. I would hazard a guess in this case we introduced another problem. With the box with sticks whole object is rigid body. Is it really the same ? If the small weight can freely rotate. And the large weights are restricted.
Say normally with rigid body as soon as the smaller weight gets even slightly displaced from the axis of rotation the primary rotation would introduce small but eventually growing precession effect which would after 90 degrees slightly pushed against the main rotation axis which would introduce even more displacement of the small weights and the force would eventually grow so large it would flip with equal force thus stabilizing on the other side.
But here with the table setup it is incapable in that 90 degree precessed position to rotate the main body since it is fixed on the table.
And since it cannot transfer the energy back into system in any way it transfers it into the heavy frame and dissipating it.
I wonder what would happen if we were to place the whole frame on top of the turntable ? But am clueless, just guessing and most likely wrong. 🙂

Polarization mean (due to unbalanced weight). Inclined (angle changed) in gyroscope.

So, theoretically, if the rotating axis is exactly the same as the middle axis (without deviation) , the the box rotation will be stable, right?

Holy Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said : When comes the last among the signs of the Qiyamah (armageddon) and the sun will rise from the West instead of the East seeing which the disbelievers of the whole world will start saying that they now believe. All those who had been disobedient will turn into the obedient ones. But, at that time, no believing and no repenting will remain worth accepting. (Al-Baghawi on authority from Sayyidna Abu Hurairah ؓ .

Why do we see the moment of stability between the flipping of rotation axis? What makes it at one time stable and a second after "unstable"? And why do we see this pause under microgravity conditions?
I think that our understanding of gravity is incomplete. We fail to describe the interaction between the gravity forces of a body and its rotation - with regards to other bodies.
I believe the relation between gravity forces and rotation are very similar to those between magnetic forces and electricity.
Just as movement or rotation of a magnetic body generates electric current within a nearby object, known as Eddy currents, which, in turn, create forces which work against the rotation or movement of the magnetic body, I believe that gravity and rotation behave just like this: the rotation of a heavy body generates a gravitational field which, in interaction with a close and heavier body (the spaceship) generates a force which works on the edges with less momentum of the body, causing them to start rotating in a surface vertical to that of the main rotation.
I believe that gravity force generates rotation of the bodies, and that the rotation decreases the impact of gravity; much like electrostatic tension pulls negatively charged bodies closer, thus decreasing the tension.

My dear knight in service of knowledge, I dare to suggest that it might be the transfer of angular momentum of the precession to that of the earth that dampens the precessory mode's amplitude.
My inspection of the gyration provokes the idea that you may have invoked a momentary slowing of the Milankovic Cycle with this formidable apparatus.
