      as an Uruguayan saying that we're the only ones taking this cup seriously is ridiculous, most teams are taking it seriously, Argentina and Colombia are great teams, obviously Brazil can't be discarded even though they're not having their best moment and don't sleep on Venezuela

      If colombia and uruguay don't face each other in quarters, I think colombia has a better chance of reaching the final than argentina. Both uruguay and columbia have shown better performance than argentina. also, don't count brazil out yet, they redeemed themselves by destroying a solid Paraguay defense, besides, it's brazil.

      @@gbbarnColombia has no chance against neither Argentina, Uruguay or Brasil. It doesn't matter how many games you've won before. These 3 countries have 39 Copa America, 12 World Cups , 10 sub 20 World Cups, several Olympic world cups, their clubs have won the Copa Libertadores more times than any other club in Southamerica etc.
      The best players of the world come from one of this 3 countries, none from Colombia, best coaches are from Argentina and Brasil, etc. Thers something psicological in football, you can be a very good team but when you have to play vs Argentina , Brasil or Uruguay you're nothing, is a different world. Besides Colombia will have to beat Brasil and Uruguay to reach the final, it has no chance to do so.
      The final will be Argentina Vs Brasil or Vs Uruguay.

  • @richardthompson3346
    @richardthompson3346 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +56

    I believe Uruguay slowing down at the beginning of the second half in both their games is a strategy being used by Bielsa. Why?
    1. He has a two goal lead
    2. He 's aware of how physically taxing his tactics are
    3. He knows his team has the opposition scared into defending because of the relentless high press/constant waves of attack
    4. He knows he has a bench that can maintain this type of play
    He's allowing his starters to take a breath for 15 or 20 minutes at the beginning of the second half after which they begin to once again impose themselves on the opposition for the next 10 to 15 minutes. Following this he makes his substituions and gets 3 or 4 fresh players to finish off the game by which time the other team is exhausted and are unable to respond.
    Of course this will be more difficult against better teams. Nonetheless it has worked for him as they did it to Brazil and Argentina in the recent WC qualifiers. You add Bielsa's tactical intelligence to a team like Uruguay who are traditionally tenacious, determined, physical and hungry and you have a potential powerhouse in the making.
    The players on this team are 23-27 years of age on average. This means by the next World Cup they will be in their prime. Their U-20 team are the reigning World Champions and during that tournament played in this very manner. Those players have yet to play on the senior team. Bielsa took the job in Uruguay for a reason. He saw the potential. The man is a genius.

      I thought in 2022 that Bielsa would be the ideal guy to coach the USA.
      His style demands a peak physique from tireless players. USA can give him that.
      He is used to develop unknown players to world star. Specially young ones. He will scout any player, in any league. Everyone has a chance.
      Imagine being a 20something year old kid in the USL championship and knowing that the coach of the USMNT is watching this game.
      I think the USA would have been what is Uruguay now.

    • @ThePolypam
      @ThePolypam 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I also noticed how slim and trim they are. I know all professional athletes are in excellent shape, but they really seem to be less on the bulky, muscular end of the spectrum and much more in the lean, long end of it. Do you think he would have picked the players whose physique meet his playing style, or is this a coincidence?

    • @lomalindasmogcheck1
      @lomalindasmogcheck1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Well put. Sos sabio, conocès bien la tactica.
      Uruguay is sheer determination, they want to d*e on the field. When their muscles are burning they remember their own past Champions, who where in the same position, conditions, and circumstances.
      This is incredible inspiration to draw from. The kind that allows the humam body to literally enter survival mode, unlocking your muscles to use more of them albeit risking musculature failure/destruction.
      Such Passion can only be understood by actual players. This is brithed out of hatred of a rival, family, culture, heroism, ego/glory.
      Uruguay loves the war on the field.
      The drawback to Uruguay is coherent ball possession in the final 3rd. Uru is more counter spur of the moment attack. Grinding a game is all good but your still got to score a dam goal or two!

    As an Uruguayan I just wanted to say to people who is feeling sorry for Bolivia. This is soccer alright? 5 goals help us to get the points to play more comfortable against better teams that we will face next weeks. At the end of the day it is all about numbers. I cannot say Uruguay will win or it is a favorite. Nobody is. Because soccer is unpredictable that is why is fascinating. Bielsa knows this and it is very humble in all of his interviews about this supposedly favoritism. Yesterday when that US player punched the other player in the face was a disgrace to the game. Where is the fair game? So Americans need to play with passion and Heart and be humble. One never knows!

    I have Uruguay winning the tournament, but not for stomping Bolivia. When a team that’s superior to another team you expect a stomping, it’s when that superior team wins 1-0,2-0 you ask questions. The thing that about Uruguay is the intensity they’ve shown not just in this tournament,but in the qualifiers. They have the players to play this style and the heart to keep going and a bench to back it up. Also why I have them ahead of Argentina, Uruguay’s main star players are younger than Argentina’s, it’s very close. Brazil is dangerous they been in a bad streak but, you have to look at the coach change now they have their official coach and are getting accustomed to what they are playing. No neymar, the young Brazilians are going to get going as the tournament progresses. Uruguay isn’t going to rest for the us atleast not the whole game. Even if they do the bench mixed with some key players is still too much for this US squad.

    Yeah, it's Bolivia (and this demonstrates how unremarkable the 2-0 US had over them was) but still this doesn't take anything away from how ruthless Uruguay were or how impressive they've been ever since they crashed out of the last World Cup (which honestly I feel was down to scheduling over anything else. South Korea got to play a Portugal side that had already guaranteed first place and had nothing to play for. I still think Uruguay would have put up a way better performance against Brazil that what South Korea did).
    Plus, who else could be considered a favorite? Brazil has been shockingly lackluster, none of the North American teams look like they can compete with the best of South America, while neither Chile nor Ecuador have really impressed. The only two other teams that look strong enough to win it are Colombia and Argentina, and while the latter has a better team on paper, I feel like Uruguay are playing with more fire (which is understandable, given that Argentina have won everything there is to win in the last few years).

    How do we accomplish this: bakery buys the cleats, small business buys the uniform. Kids Clubs (3-18) have a low to no entrance fee for players.
    I’m telling you with this mentality in 15 years, the US would be a forced to be reckoned with, and have that Messi like talent budding here.

    Here are some interesting numbers about the last 10 editions of the Copa América (from 1999 up to the ongoing 2024 cup):
    Costa Rica: 5 appearances, 5 matches won
    USA: 3 appearances, 4 matches won
    Panama: 2 appearances, 2 matches won
    Honduras: 1 appearance, 3 matches won
    Bolivia: 10 appearances, 1 match won
    (Note: All four CONCACAF teams I just mentioned have, at one point, beaten Bolivia at the Copa América over period I stated. Five collective matches, Bolivia lost them all and has just scored one goal, yet to face Panama a second time).
    It's hard to sit through any Bolivia match at this tournament knowing they have spent a quarter of a century doing absolutely NOTHING, especially when you have the Hondurans watching at home, wishing they could play it. They have been eager to play another Copa América for decades now. True that Honduras is far from its finest version, but at least they would have put far more effort and enthusiasm than Bolivia who simply don't care to try anymore.

    I'd agree with Casey except what we need now is to complete the dose of reality. Berhalter is not a world class coach. His panic and poor choices against Panama showed that once again. And this team needs to reevaluate its talent. There are players on the USMNT roster who just don't belong there - evident in the Panama match and in other recent matches. And the players who do belong there are not being used to their strengths and skills. A new coach NOW would have two years to work on those problems and rebuild the team. It will take that long to prep for the WC if the US is to make even an honorable showing.

      @bautistaalberdi478 you are correct and is understandable, Bielsa wants a machine, Uruguayans have character as well to deal with his demands on the field and balance it. I think Uruguay right now has the players to do it. Only with time we will see the trade off of it.

    Im sorry but I’m not impressed! They’ve played against Panama and Bolivia, arguably the two worst teams in the tournament.

      Argentina didn't impress against Canada (last team to qualify for CA) or Chile near bottom in WCQ. 😂 where's their big win? Still waiting.
