  • A walk in the Campsie Fells, just over 6 miles long, starting in Lennoxtown and ending at Clachan of Campsie. From Lennoxtown we pick up a footpath that runs just south of Bencloich Farm. At Stafford Cottage, near Glorat House, we head left up a track, passing Maiden Castle Motte & Bailey, and pick up a hill-track just before Garmore farm. Before heading up into the Campsie Fells we re-examine the Early Iron Age hillfort, Meikle Reive, and put forward the theory that this hillfort was at one time a much larger settlement than previously thought. We then head uphill on a good wide track by Knockybuckle and on to a cairn where we stop for a rest and give advice on the importance of using a map and compass. The path in the hills that leads down to Clachan of Campsie passes above Sloughmuclock and by Crichton's Cairn, before taking us through Campsie Glen and into Clachan of Campsie. The final music in this video is titled, 'Waving Me Goodbye' by Eddy Burns. For more music by Eddy Burns check out his EP at • Official Promo Audio: ...

Superb stuff Ed. As someone who trekked the Campsies many times years ago, it brings back good memories. 👍

Hi Eddy, really enjoyed this video in the hills and beautiful countryside. You certainly gave your foot a proper examination and good to know that it’s back to normal. I can’t think of anything better than having a Killie pie after trekking through the hills. Great to end with a lovely song, always enjoy your music! Take care Eddy and stay safe, best regards, Rob.

Hey Ed, just wanted you to know me and my husband watch all your videos avidly and they’ve really helped us through lockdown. Keep up the great work! Glad your foot is doing better :)

Many thanks. At the moment it's hard to know what's going on with lockdown. Where I am in Glasgow is back to a no-travel-outside-the-city scenario and I'm champing at the bit to do a walk I've got in mind. Take care.

Good video again. I was brought up in Milton of Campsie and Twechar so know that part of the world well. Esp the view. My dad was the Commanding Officer at the Gun range between Milton of Campsie and Kirkintillock. Days as a young boy exploring these areas (whilst avoiding unexploded bombs!)

Great to see the Campsie’s getting some recognition. Cracking little video. Just discovered you and getting inspired by your enthusiasm.

Many thanks. If only Glasgow could get out of Covid level 3 travel restrictions so I can actually go somewhere. Hopefully soon.

I know what you mean about careers day. I wanted to be an astronomer and I was laughed at. Nothing like help and encouragement for something you love when you're young!

Absolutely. There's that horrible feeling that teachers could see your potential at an early stage, and that your life-path was already marked out and your future pigeonholed. But at the end of the day we can at least hope that we can be anything we want to be.

Makes you wonder about the logic, making yourself scarce from the enemy by building an enclave at the top of a hill visible from
miles around. Glad to see you on the trails again Eddy, taking me a bit longer for motivation after last lockdown, but the weather
and the memory of a year of restraint should be enough to get me going once again.

I think some of the larger hillforts wanted to be seen, as in a statement of power, but I know what you mean. A-hiking we will go.

Great news about the foot! As always I try to follow along on the Google Map satellite view. It would be helpful, especially is a video such as this, to give us a hint as to what village, town, or landmark we are seeing. Otherwise we are like the guy without a compass that you referred to . Many thanks for the time and sharing your music.

That's a good point. I suppose it's all about creating a balance and trying to determine if too much on-screen text is intrusive. But it's certainly something I'll chew over. Thanks.

Many thanks; I'm now feeling a tad guilty at not putting more effort into the music; I sort of rushed it out in my typically impatient way.

Btw, recent studies show that 100% of all people on the planet will experience death at least once in their lifetime. 😂

did you see the huts they built in Mugdock park when they were filming Outlaw King?

    • @EdExploresScotland
      @EdExploresScotland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Security was pretty tight at the time, but I did. Small thatched huts, if my memory serves me well. I've still to see that film, and looking forward to it.
