  • In this week's episode of the podcast/vlog I'm talking about some of the easiest to make mistakes that new Overlanders often make. How do I know this? I made all these mistakes myself. So, I figured I'd share to hopefully help you avoid some of the expense and pain I went through.
As mentioned in the episode, below are some links to the things I mentioned that I really like.

Probably one of the most useful vids i have seen. As someone who just went on their first trip, i found problems with a lot of the gear i brought and realizing the things i do not need to buy or shouldnt have bought.

To me, lifts aren’t worth all the extra headaches for a little bit more clearance (but they do look cool if that’s important to you).
And as far as winches go, make sure you have good way to communicate off grid & find a buddy with a winch. 😂

Having a buddy with a winch is super helpful. I definitely agree with you on the big lifts. My last truck had a big lift on it and was Titan swapped with different UCAs, LCAs, and more and that was a lot of expense and work just to get some more clearance. That's why on the new truck I just did a simple 1.5-2" lift and that helped get a big more room for the 33's and that's all I plan to do to the truck.

Enjoy your videos like this on being practical and not falling for the hype. Though I would like to have a winch I realize that I'll never have time or money to go rock crawling or way off road (or $ to build bumper) so I've gotten by with Come A Long for years.

I have a 2013 Subaru Forester 2.5 Limited changed out street tires for Falken wildpeak all terrain tires did camping sleeping pad inside probably be getting a ground tent with my bad knees looking at a 8000lb winch? What do you think over kill? Any ideas power build or ecoflow? Already have various cooking stoves, Setpower frig? Picking up a front runner slimline rack soon, appreciate your heads up on your videos love your channel Awesomeness

I love subies. When it comes to winches, I would always go heavier versus lighter. For example, on my old trucks, I went 12 or 13,000 pound winches instead of the 9500s just because they were smoother pulling and gave me more torque from the get-go. If it was me getting a winch for, the Subaru, I would probably go with a 9500 for your vehicle. Eco flow makes some good stuff and afraid good things. And set power fridges are great options.

"Rocklander" is a term I saw recently and will henceforth refer to my vehicle as a Rocklander. I do enjoy the obstacles, but I also enjoy easy trails with amazing camping experiences.

I bought my 2022 Ford Ranger Tremor new. The Tremor comes with an off-road package, so that was a plus. It comes with a better suspension than the other models, but now I'm putting a new set of HD Deavers in tomorrow after I load it with my gear and a full tank of fuel it's like driving a sinking boat. It's all about having fun and learning as you go. I almost have my rig set up to where I want it and can't wait to do some trips. The Northwoods of Wisconsin and the UP offer some cool places, but I can't wait to venture outside of my area. Thanks for the videos. We are all learning....

Love it! Sounds like you’re building smart! The UP and WI are some of my favorite places to go nearby but out west is crazy beautiful.

Great video, but I did start out knowing that I was going to put on a front bumper with a wench rear bumper and a rooftop tent on my vehicle so I did all that and then did it suspension kit and it worked out for me I did make a plan first to go this route😊😊😊
