    atomic and hydrogen are both considered "nuclear"
    Atomic: uses fission to split the atom apart creating a chain reaction of these splits releasing a huge amount of energy.
    Hydrogen: Uses fusion to push atoms together (same reaction that creates sunlight or what happens in the center of the sun) this also creates a chain reaction that releases some 1000x greater energy then the Atomic bomb.

This policy has been based on Chinese leaders’ perception of the nature and role of nuclear weapons and has been continuously embraced by top Chinese leaders, from Mao Zedong until today. As Mao stated a few months after China’s first nuclear test: “We don’t wish to have too many atomic bombs ourselves. What would we do with so many? To have a few is just fine.” -

In order to copy the Americans you would need super computers and loads of other industrial technologies that China just can not build. From what I can tell... you can actually see the primary and secondary phases of the explosion. There is an initial orange round sphere and then a much brighter phase expands out from the centre when fusion takes place. With this blast being in the air it seems to have had less contamination than a ground or near ground burst.

    • @BaiYu1983
      @BaiYu1983 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      These nuclear reaction typically took places in a few dozens of nano-seconds. So as +THE-ONE-CROBC-METAL said, when you see the flash the reaction is done.
      I'd like to explain it a bit more. Firstly let me describe the phenomenon: an initial flash, quick and bright, then get darker in some half a second, then an extremely bright fireball expanding outward. This extreme brightness can last for a few seconds before it began to turn faint.
      The initial flash was caused by the radiation around the reaction region, where the atoms are directly heated by the x-ray or gamma-ray from the nuclear fusion. The temperature there can reach millions of degrees. The fireball reaches the maximum luminosity in 300 micro-seconds, and getting faint gradually.
      At the same time, the pressure in the center of reaction is very high, so there is a shock wave formed and pushing outward. The air inside the shock wave is so hot, that the atoms are ionized to be plasma, which is opaque to light, so it blocked the light emitting outward. It took some time for the front of shock wave to reach the edge of initial fire ball, at which point the radiation of fireball was largely blocked, and this is the reason you see a minimum luminosity in some half a second after the initial fireball.
      As the shock wave expand, the air inside is cooling down, so the ions and electrons regain each other to form atoms, and it became transparent to light. Then you can see the full power of radiation since nothing blocks them now.

      The double flash is caused by the formation of nitrogen dioxide by the X-rays from the bomb energetically fusing the O2 and N2 in the air. The NO2 gas is dark and opaque so you get a flash, then a rapid dimming followed by the prolonged brightening as the fireball expands. It all happens in less than a second.

    • @bjornragnarsson8692
      @bjornragnarsson8692 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Strike_Raidthere is that effect, but very, very minimal. I think you may be referring to the ionization and recombination of O2 and N2 to form NO2, but even that is insignificant compared to the opacity between hydrodynamic shock flow catching up to the isothermal radiation dominated sphere and the cooling of such (overall) radial hydrodynamic shock front (akin to losing intensity outward as the surface of a star shining outward through light years of space).
      The hydrodynamic shock stirred from the interior of a radiative driven shock front will always catch up, to and surpass the blackbody photon gas, and fall behind, overtake, fall behind overtake depending on the encompassing system conditions and boundaries. Due to the limited thermal pulse from both the boosted fission primary (which mostly is directed to imploding the secondary thermonuclear fusion stage and fission spark plug), and the thermonuclear fusion stage + fissile spark plug +/- possible fissionable tamper used in the test still remaining, there is a powerful, but limited amount of thermal radiation that can escape the bomb (most of which ends up converted to a shock wave despite originating as a thermal pulse).
      Not to overextend myself, but imagine now some hypothetical circumstance where the energy density continues to rise and the thermal, Fermi degenerate, neutron degenerate, and even possibly quark/gluon degeneracy pressure is exceeded from a compression outside of the radiation/ablation pressure we’re familiar with. What happens then? Don’t ask me.

    If these wars occur regardless of technology, how can you claim that nuclear weapons are the reason that "world didn't experience any major conflicts for years now"? Like any weapon, their sole purpose is to destroy and kill. They are incredibly efficient at doing this. No sane country would use nuclear weapons in war, but not every country is sane. The Cold War gave Americans a reason to live in fear every day, which is in itself a major conflict. Many countries still live under that shadow.

    @Fourteen88SoCal Who cares? You have probably never seen a nuclear test video with actual audio of a nuclear explosion.
    It is absolutely silent as the bomb goes off. It is absolutely silent as the fireball rises in the sky. And then eventually the blast arrives; it is a loud, sharp bang, quite similar to a nearby thunderclap; it completely lacks this deep rumble that every nuclear test video is dubbed over with.

It's had also opened peoples eyes to the effects of radiation and what it is and how harmful it is. radiation is a natural thing that falls from space everyday, and with this weapon we can observe just how dangerous it is. This is one of the biggest breakthroughs.
