I remember I started watching your videos on freelance writing back in January. I decided to give it a shot and send out cold emails. But I was sceptical due to competition. Beginning of March, my friend posted an instagram story saying his marketing agency boss was looking for content writers. I wrote to him. A couple days later I was interviewed and got the job. Best thing ever that has happened to me since a while. We use Chat GPT to write the content but I look it over and put heart into it. Two months later I am writing for 10 different clients and feel incredibly grateful. I have been dreaming of becoming a content writer since years and it’s becoming reality during technological advancements that are actually an advantage to help speed up the process of writing.

I’ve been contemplating jumping into freelance writing for a hot minute but have been hesitant with AI exploding. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about it as this has served as a boost of confidence for establishing myself and starting.

A great video thank you so much. I think the essential part that's missing from AI generated content is the heart. It cannot master the human heart. This same hype was generated for NFTs and although there are people interested in that, that's not everyone. The same principles of niche industry still applies.
I'm an historian, artist, and writer. We see this with history repeatedly. There's still a plethora of people in this world who love 18th century history for example. Many people who still admire and learn from the works of Michelangelo. Still more reasons people continue to crave Austen's writings. There's a reason for that. It may sound discouraging and even scary when technology vomits the latest big thing, but we should not let it shake up to our core. Hold steady. We humans are innovative. If we can create technology to take over, we can also create art to bring humanity back.
I appreciate your points on niching down. I'm trying to do that. That's my biggest challenge because if my background: art, writing, history, entrepreneurship, design.
If anyone has any tips, I could sure use the help. Thanks!🙏😊

    • @LocationRebel
      @LocationRebel  ปีที่แล้ว +5

Love this comment, and totally agree. When it comes to niching down, I think you can explore all of those things. When you're pitching a potential client in the art world, position yourself as an "art writer". Same goes for design, entrepreneurship etc. See which one gets the most traction, and then you can invest more time and energy into promoting yourself along those lines.

I’m just beginning my freelance writing journey, transitioning from another career, and I have been playing with chatGPT for a while now. As you have been saying, it is a great tool to aid in the writing process. But there is no way it is going to replace, good writers. Even if you use it to create a blog post or an article, you still have to majorly, edit and revise it. There’s a lot of passive voice used and redundant words. I love using it to help with some social media posts and tweets, rewriting a sentence when I’m stuck, getting basic information with bullet points, and topic suggestions. I played around with Google bard a little bit, but I did not like that one at all. And just like with the increase in AI, there is also going to be increases in AI content analyzers so eventually, those who try to take too many shortcuts, will eventually be called out. 😮

Things are definitely changing in many areas of work and writing, but I agree that the human touch is going to be just as important as ever, if not more so. A big part of my work as a technical writer is to understand my audience well enough to be able to explain complex technical topics in simple terms they can understand and act upon. I'm skeptical that AI will ever reach that level of understanding, so I don't feel threatened in terms of future work. Great to keep up with the trends though, and I will be on the lookout for ways AI can become another tool to help me in my work.

Good video my man. Writing is legit and will be around, but you need to add something complementary like SEO, email mgmt, etc. Things like long form VSLs are harder to automate along with super niche stuff like pharma laws

  • @kevinfrasure9206

I guess I agree to a point. I don’t think freelancing is dead but I think it is going to drastically change as the technology gets better.
I know how it is changing for me. I have freelanced a little bit on the side of working my day job. I haven’t gotten the results I’ve wanted so last year I changed gears.
I have always wanted to make a movie and I focused on writing the script last year and this year I have been focusing on making my film.
I have been studying AI technology to help me with my poorly neglected blog. I am going to have content written by me to give my blog a human touch but also informative content with affiliate links written by AI with me over seeing it.
I have been looking in AI tools to take that same content and turn it into videos. I have also been looking into AI to help with fiction writing, storyboarding, social media post etc..,
I see AI as an opportunity and not an enemy. Sure it will take some people’s jobs but it is going to create a lot of new jobs too.
I would rather write horror fiction than copywriting but until now it has been hard to make a living writing fiction except for a select few.
But I believe AI can help change all that because I can use it to learn new skills and let it do the stuff I don’t want to do so I can focus on creating stories.

Thank you for this video! I started learning copywriting back in December. I’ve been taking a course, listening to podcasts, reading books, and was just about to start building my website. A few weeks ago, a well-meaning coworker who knew my writing ambitions encouraged me to download and play around with ChatGPT, and since then I’ve been so discouraged that I almost gave up my dream of becoming a freelance copywriter. I’m grateful for the information in this video as you’ve encouraged me to stick it out and follow through. You’ve also gained a new subscriber!

Your content is amazing. My one tip (if you care to hear it lol!) is to have the music in the intros much quieter. You have a great voice. Its very engaging and pulls the viewer/listener in, but the music in the intro makes it much harder to focus on what you're saying and get pulled into wanting to watch the video, from my perspective! Much love. Keep kicking ass 🙏🏼

Before the AI boom I was using it quite a lot in my writing especially dry product comparrisons. Then spice it up a little bit and there you go.
Until... I also used it for my own personal marketing and got feedback from people close to me. The best feedback was that it was to perfect and lacked playfulness. It was missing the vibrancy which is in me as a person.
It makes a text way more fun to read when there are some strange conceptual senteces with words that are totally made up on the spot. Some might want things to be perfect, then they can ask the robots. When they want something to be fun and Authentic ask a human 😊

You make a lot of good points Bro, and I agree that AI won't be able to match the human touch in creating content! I strangely imagined some robot ripoff of your show, called "Vocation Rebel," in which Artificial Intelligence tried to mimic your style, voice and technique-- but they weren't successful, for all the reasons you enumerate here!

important and helpful insights for me: don't be afraid to use AI to your advantage and know how to use it well, try going deeper in a topic (shows expertise and unique position), reach out to actual people and get people's insights on things because 1) it's more human and something that more people will appreciate & 2) interviewing people gets knowledgeable people's insights, advice, and more that you can use to improve, grow, and impart to other people as well.
    awesome content as always!

Think the best analogy I've heard about AI is it's like a calculator. If you know how to use the tool, it can save time on your calculations. But if you're confused about the inputs, spinning your wheels (and possibly ending up with the wrong answer) is a very real possibility.

Oh my gosh! I use AI as a butler to get me what I need for ideas or what the common feeling is regarding a topic or whatever - but not as a replacement. Do you think AI could ever replace Copywriters like Gary Halpert, or John Carlton or Eugene Schwartz, or Michel Fortin ...?? Nothing will replace the human element. This has been the most contraversial, and pondered consideration since Man vs. machine, now Man vs. AI and has always been a hot topic in science fiction since Asimov's Robot Series to Ex Machina. But AI has no soul or passion, and it can't conjure that up or understand it or conjure it up in another person - although I guess it may come close. I'm not worried about AI. I was at first. It's a tool. Thanks again for another great video Sean. Nice background by the way. :0)

I had a chat with a search engine chat thing. When I asked if it was human, it said it wasn't. The thing was smart and if I had not known it was a chat thing, I could have been fooled. But only until it messed up when answering me. What is currently going on with chat blobs or whatever they can be called, are the companies behind them are programming them, having real hoomans answer questions as if you and they are conversing. Lifelike robots are being invented so when the chat blobs are connected into them, the same way as our phones are without wires hanging out all over the place though they are connected, there will be some competition. They will never be flesh and blood and that will, as you have said, Sean, be to our benefit. Still, the blob bosses will try to have their marketing henchmen say otherwise to convince us to crawl under rocks, drop into a live volcano, or use drones to cause a Buffalo herd to stampede right for us.

I have been reading horror stories from Reddit about writing freelancers losing all their clients. I don't think the majority of freelancers will be able to support themselves with writing work alone within the next two years. But your information is valuable for people who are determined to stay in the industry.

    • @LocationRebel

Here's the thing about a site like reddit, it's just like so many review sites. The majority of the people going there are the ones that want to complain or had a bad experience. Most six-figure writers aren't spending their time on sites like that, they're too busy doing the work.

The thumbnail spoke the cardinal truth - Freelance writing is dead. Hence I'm going back to my 9-5.

I just started my freelancing career, bad am working on getting experience at Crowd Content while setting up my personal portfolio website for larger clients.
AI doesn't deter me. I don't see it as an enemy, but I don't see it as a good thing. Writing is about the writer connecting with the audience, that is if your passionate about it. You remove that and over time writing loses its meaning.
I don't agree with the AI takeover, and the jobs it's going to take and I won't be apart of it. AI needs to stay away from this field or eventually everything will be written by AI. If you use it to do things you "don't feel like doing" or " don't have the expertise in" you are part of the reason AI will eventually remove humans out of the equation.
I'll say it once, I'll say it again, the human race is going to end up as a mix of the movie WALL-E and ready player one. I'll die on that hill. Amazon/blue origin will easily have a monopoly over space and consumers, the earth is being trashed, robots/AI are being made to take over mundane and eventually complex tasks and humans will more or less live in a virtual worlds. There is no path I see us taking with AI that ends well, this due to human nature and always wanting to improve. The issue is less with AI taking over freelance writing, and more with AI just taking over.

I think we can utilize the tools to our advantage, but if the owners of the tools and our bosses want AI to replace us and decide it’s “good enough,” there isn’t much we can do. We can’t fight the AI, but we can fight it’s human owners and we will have to. The WGA strike is only the beginning.
