Love this video. As a Hok skier in neighbouring Ontario, can I recommend trying skiing with a single pole-what the Altai company calls a tiak. I find it gives me so much more stability and manoeuvrability on the downhills. I’m even able to ski fairly thickly treed and steep hillsides, places I would never have considered telemarking with the traditional double poles. Just a thought.
Thanks for commenting John. 😊I have been meaning to try that this winter. I think you right, it would be much more stable and maneuverable. I hope you have a great winter. We are still waiting on some significant snow fall here. 😊❄️
@@SAMAoutdoors Same here. I’ve only been able to xc ski on grassy paths so far. Just not enough snow to cover anything even mildly Stoney or roots. Every day I think it won’t be possible, but so far I’ve been able to eke out 18 surprisingly skiable, if short and careful outings. Praying for a good dump of snow.
Great video. What binding setup do you have on your hoks? I have the universal binding and having the hardest time turning, controlling speed and direction on the downhills.
@@michaelgabriel433 I use the universal binding as well. I hav the 3 pins and light teleboot too. I like the universal binding more as it’s better overall for the short runs.
I was using Muck boots. I now have the Scott Excursions and 3 pin Voile bindings. I do think the extra ankle support of the Muck boot worked well for the universal bindings.
@@SAMAoutdoors thanks for your reply. I personally not a skier. I have 3 kids and price for 5 sets of regular gear is overwhelming giving that I need to buy new ones every year for kids. Used is fine but anyway requires changing every year. I consider hok or kom or other similar mini skies as an option
Siiiiick! Just picked a set up on marketplace yesterday! 🤙🤙🤙
You'll love them!🙂
Well done! I get so fired up on the local mini adventures!
Thanks buddy. 😊🤙

What Kind Of boots are you using with the universal bindings?

Are you able to do parallel turns on a downhill?
You can, but it's not that easy with skis this short and a free heel.

Is the 145 more for open areas where the 125 is more for the woods?
@@deltafour1212 I think that’s a fair assessment. Although, the 145 is what i ski. I thinks it’s fine for the woods.
Baloo is 100% stok extract wrapped in fur
She is the super stay stoked in Michigan. 😁
what bindings and boots are you using thinking of getting a pair
@@k.n.v.b1113 I actually like the universal binding. It allows you to use different boots.
@ thank you for the reply . I was thinking that. The three pin telemark style system does seem better for more down hill and side cutting .
But I will be getting the universal ! Thank you may 2025 bring you nothing but blue sky’s and endless powder
wtf are you saying about "freedom lovers"?
