    I'm a retired motorcycle technician from 1979 and 99% of the time I only used two tire irons and never needed those blue anodized tire bead holders. Besides, they weren't even invented yet. 😁 I never removed the rim lock unless I was replacing it and that was after I removed the tire. If the wheel had two rim locks I had to remove one of them to get the tire off. I had more luck without pinching the tube by not putting any air in the tube prior to installing the tire. Just make sure it's laying flat against the bottom sidewall of the tire. I also found it to be easier on my knuckles to put the valve stem of the tube in the rim with the nut screwed on flush with the end, then install the tire. This can only be done if the rim lock was next to the valve stem and the nut on the rim lock was also at the end allowing free movement. If the rim lock was opposite of the valve stem, I would install the rim lock first, then the first tire bead then the tube. It's much easier to install the valve stem than the rim lock when the first tire bead is on especially when the rim strip has to go over the rim lock. I only used tire lube and not soap and water especially on a tubeless aluminum mag wheel because corrosion will eventually set in, causing air to leak between the tire bead and rim. Once the tire is inflated to get the beads seated, I would remove the valve core allowing all the air to come out, which allows the tube to settle in incase it's bunched up. Then reinflate to get beads to seat and adjust air pressure. I hope my experience and knowledge will help someone out. 🧓
    P.S.
    Never use screwdrivers to change a tire as I have seen the outcome, which is pinched tubes, damaged tires and rims. Oh yeah, damaging the screwdrivers too.

    Dirt bike tires typically have soft sidewalls and are therefore easier to mount and dismount. Try something with a stiff sidewall like a motoz or or a D606.

    Do not use soapy water if you can avoid it. It will corrode the inner well of your rims due to the caustic chemicals in the soap. A tyre paste is a better alternative.

    After riding for 37 years and never having a flat, I'll take my chances just to avoid carrying all that change gear with me. I couldn't imagine carrying 3 tyre levers with me for 37 years and not once needing any of it.. If or when it does ever happen, I'll just mark it up as an " oh well". Walk it out pf the trails and back to the car.. Then have some beers at home later and change the tyre in comfort.

    Last step would be to do the wheel balancing as well

    • @cliffords.8341
      @cliffords.8341 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dirt bike wheels don't get balanced because you're riding on rough terrain. Besides, you would have to add about 3oz's of weight to the opposite side of the rim lock (if it has only one) to compensate for the weight of the rim lock.

    • @caiuspreda
      @caiuspreda 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cliffords.8341 the bike in the video is a KTM 350exc-f, that means you'll be riding that dual sport on the road connecting trails, or turning it in a lightweight adventure bike, which is very common nowadays. If you end up riding road (e.g. doing a BDR) you'd want the wheels balanced

    • @cliffords.8341
      @cliffords.8341 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@caiuspreda I know what bike that was. I've worked on bikes since 1979. The tire that was put on was atleast a 50/50 tire if not more off road than on road. That's why he didn't balance it. If you need to balance a wheel on a dual sport bike, you don't need to be riding. If you can't handle a wheel that's slightly out of balance on the road or trail, then you can't handle the rough terrain off road. If the tire is a dual sport, 50% on and 50% off road or more % off road, you're wasting your time balancing it and if the wheel has only one rim lock it usually takes about 3 ounces or more of weight, put on the rim opposite the rim lock to compensate for the weight of the rim lock. If the tire is 60% or more on road then it should be balanced because the bike is usually ridden on the street and occasionally off road.
