Charles Magnante (1905-1986) pianista, acordeonista, arreglista, compositor, autor y educador. Su arte ayudó a levantar la imagen del acordeón de un instrumento considerado apto sólo para la música popula,r a un instrumento aceptado en muchos géneros de música
Su padre era un músico aficionado bien conocido. Charles tocó junto a su padre, a la edad de cinco años, y a los siete años, aprendió a tocar en secreto el acordeón de su padre. A la edad de dieciséis años su reputación como un acordeonista había crecido tanto que estaba recibiendo muchas ofertas para unirse a giras con varias bandas , que se negó, debido a sus estudios de música
Charles Magnante comenzó su carrera profesional tocando en los restaurantes italianos y en el Ferry de Staten Island. Sin embargo, quería romper con la imagen del acordeonista clásico. En la década de 1940, fue el líder de un trío de éxito con el guitarrista Tony Mottola y organista George Wright, participando regularmente en emisiones de radio en la NBC. Trabajó también como un codiciado músico de estudio. En la cima de su carrera, llevó a cbo 30 emisiones de radio en directo y ocho sesiones de estudio cada semana. Actuó también como músico de concierto en solitario, y una vez tocó en un concierto, en solitario, en el Estadio Cívico de Buffalo, Nueva York para una audiencia de 40.000.
Magnante fue uno de los doce miembros fundadores de la Asociación Americana de Acordeonistas (fundada en 1938), y tfué presidente tres veces
Magnante escribió libros de método para los músicos de acordeón, además de numerosos arreglos de los éxitos de la música contemporánea popular y piezas clásicas.
Su composición original más famosa es probablemente la novedad Accordiana. Sus arreglos y composiciones abarcan una serie de géneros musicales, como easy listening, jazz y boogie-woogie, piezas clásicas.

Que bellos recuerdos !!!! Este estilo musical ,no lo deberíamos olvidar jamás. Un brillante ejecutante que no morirá jamás.Hace poco tiempo me deleite viendo en tv un programa de un matrimonio paseando por París ,mostraron los monumentos históricos más bellos ,plazas ,etc. Pero me llamo la atención que no pusieron como fondo musical acompañando las imágenes que mostraron el bonito paseo ni una sola melodía francesa y mucho menos y mucho menos ni una sola canción de Edith Piaf ( el gorrión de París ) Me causo mucha pena y deseos de llorar ,porque las nuevas generaciones no respetan la música de cada país especialmente los Países europeos .Este proceder le quita la histórica tradición a cada país ,porque por medio de oír estás canciones del pasado respeta las buenas costumbres y el sentimiento humano por medio de la música.Llore porqué los que prepararon este video ,no se informaron bien .Un saludo de esta Argentina,que no desea ofender a nadie .Mabel Sofía Alberti Bs. I don't know what tune he's playing but it isn't what the title says. The instrument is an Excelsior N.Y. model.
The video is from Magnante's quartet playing his composition "Tantalizing." The recording is from a later LP that Magnante released where he played several French standards. The sound is, indeed, Under Paris Skies. By the time he recorded this song he was playing a La Tosca El Dorado and not his old NY Excelsior.
Interesting (if you"re a musician) that the fingering on the accordion and Hammond organ (played here by George Wright) don't match the music being played (Under Paris Skies).
That’s true. I’ve been playing this piece for almost a year now and the fingering isn’t remotely close. Would be interesting to try work out what they were actually playing.

I found this Magnante list of accordion songs... looking to identify "Carmen Opera Medly"... and "The Jolly barber Tarantella" on a CD that I have with miss-labeled titles. Glad to find this, BUT while the "Carmen" IS listed it is BLOCKED! Why? Does anyone know where I can find a video that will help me tell which if the two remaining mis-titled songs on my CD "is" Carmen? or the Jolly Barber?
