- IU student orchestra led by Kornilios Michailidis in Tchaikovsky's first tableau of the Manfred Symphony:
"Weary and tormented, Manfred wanders the Alps, vainly seeking destruction. A remembrance of his lost love Astarte tears at his heart."
Specially the finale is so magic ! Bravi !
Bravo!
excellent !
Indeed, if I were a conductor, I would have no qualms about playing the first movement ONLY at a concert. The 2nd movement is a tone poem of a waterfall with a spirit in it. It has nothing to do with the poem, and the conversation between Manfred and the Spirit. The 3rd movement is about a subject that appears in the poem briefly. The 4th movement? The poem does not mention an orgy, nor does it say that Astarta forgave Manfred.
