Never trust the stars When you're about to fall in love Look for hidden signs or you'll begin to sigh Never trust the moon When you're about to taste his kiss He knows all the lies and lives up to lie Just wait for a night When the skies are all bare And see If you care Never trust your dreams When you're about to fall in love Or your dreams will quickly fall apart So if you're smart, really smart Only trust your heart
So sensual... without trying to be. That voice is angelic and hypnotic. We took time from Hendrix, Otis and Sinatra to adore this captivating beauty. That is what it was like growing up in the 60's. Bravo Astrud... pure class... Never trust your heart.... Getz with his serrealistic tones gets the mood of this song on key.
Astrud...... it was a mistake.... the heart was trechurous... Stan was incomplete and Joao was negleting.... but that was a promise. Abusive men.... the spotlight... childhood trauma often lead one to connect with..... false. You had it right. The simple things in life... housekeeping. caring for the kids, tending the garden, petting the cat..... and humming a song... brings Happiness. Yes, I know you... and if I was there in 1965... I would have made you a queen... happy.
I would never have known who Getz was if not for Astrud. At 14 years old her beautiful voice grabbed me! Sincerely, Allen Haneline from North Carolina USA
Our heavens don't match - sadly. But this simple song ties them into a bundle about anyone takes home. Try Diane Kroal's and adjust your less excluded pop genders "girls"...
@MrRea112 Getz's band is the same as he had on "Getz au Go Go". It was the recently formed "Stan Getz Quartet", including Gary Burton. I agree with others that the version of this song on "Getz au Go Go" is better than this one on Getz-Gilberto #2. Astrud sounds about the same on both, but Getz is better in "au Go Go".
Astrud had a pleasant voice but she was not a singer - she could not stay in key - most of those classic bossa-recordings are pain to listen because of her bland, off-key singing. I wish somebody remastered them with pitch correction. Yes I understand it was image and all that. And I understand that most singers are off - but you gotta be off the right way - and Astrud was all over the map - no control over pitch.
I'm an operatic singer and I have ear of the absolute tone consciousness but Astrud does not stay out of key in any way whatsoever. I recommend you to be always verified when you declair or definite something or somebody.
Another opera trained singer here. Some Notes are a little shaky probably due to breath control but charming nonetheless. Gives a wistful, innocent feel that her songs are sung by an average person, not a trained singer .
This song was on my wedding playlist.
Rest in peace Astrid Gilberto..😔💔💕🌹🌹😞🌠🌠🌠🙏
Never trust the stars
When you're about to fall in love
Look for hidden signs or you'll begin to sigh
Never trust the moon
When you're about to taste his kiss
He knows all the lies and lives up to lie
Just wait for a night
When the skies are all bare
And see
If you care
Never trust your dreams
When you're about to fall in love
Or your dreams will quickly fall apart
So if you're smart, really smart
Only trust your heart
I'm pretty sure the line is "He knows all the lies and lips so often lie."
Beautifull Song. Who's listening that Song in October 2.021. Astrud is a beautifull singer, her voice Is like a silk.
J'écoute fin août retour de vacances ! La nostalgie qui accompagne ces tittes à la couleur mauve de mon moral
Her innocent and sweet voice catapulted her to the top of jazz, , , not an easy task. Everything about her worked, a legend.
Brilliant performer, pure heaven 😍

ハスキーボイスが、名曲と相まってサイコー!
Lovely. And this gorgeous tune was written by the late, great Benny Carter.
RIP, Benny. ☻
사랑하는 이가 알려준 이 감미로운 음악... 행복합니다!
BEAUTIFUL.
She was the best bossa nova and jazz singer
Thanks for sharing. I adore Astrud, a very unique and beautiful person, and one of my favorite singers from an age long passed.
Divina...

Astrud *is* the key... therefore she cannot possibly be "off" it.

correct me but i feel weird at the word "star" around 0:14. Is it out of key a bit?
I agree with chrish
it's best with Stan's baritone sax search "Only Trust Your Heart Getz"
TENOR sax!
Hello
Hm
@Coolwhitebear wud yu plz attach a link for dis classic version?
I agree. But then, on Getz Au Go Go, Stan had an excellent group with the legendary Gary Burton on vibes. Don't know who's performing here.
Getz got lucky.
I would never have known who Getz was if not for Astrud. At 14 years old her beautiful voice grabbed me!

yah. same, goes for mine mostly.
I think her voice is quite sultry, can't hear where she might be off key at all, sounds beautiful to me.

Who cares about that bastard Getz who didn't pay enough to Astrud Gilberto for performing these gigs. 😢 RIP Astrud.
@Coolwhitebear yeah I agree that solo is just inspired, this one doesn;t really work, I guess that's the hazard of improv

LiSaMaRie4624 hi this is bossa nova from bossa nova Man ciao
Not bad for whispering into the mic.
the getz sax solo isnt as good as on the classic version in my opinion
I think the point is, her voice is a foil to Getz's sax, if she was a marvellous singer it would be a distraction from his virtuoso playing.
one point. The Bossa Nova style is sung straight with no vibrato. But yes they're a winning combination.
She is a "marvelous singer."

woland99 - perhaps the most clueless post I've ever read. You have absolutely no understanding of bossa nova whatsoever.
