Hi to you. I was never into metal detecting until my partner came home earlier today and said a work colleague had given her an old Garrett treasure ace 200. It's got a 9 and a half inch round disk on the end with Garrett Crossfire 2 written on it. The color is all green with a white adjustable piece to make it longer or shorter, sorry i don't know what most of the bits i am describing are called as i have never owned one before. It looks like an old one but to my surprise it still looks brand new, no scratches anyware. It looks like it takes two 9 volt square batteries. I just thought i would ask someone as yourself if it would be any good to have a go at this hobby. It came with a very nice holdall and a pair of headphones and a very nice spade that you unscrew and fold out, quit nicely made i would say. Just wanted to ask as said like yourself who seems to know what they are on about
It is a much older version detector, but will infact work just fine. The technology in the microchips has come a long way since then, but that detector should have no issues at all. These kind of detectors are known as dig everything machines, because they will find most stuff upto 6 inches deep, any deeper and a good signal can sound bad. So dig every signal, normally the very lowest signal is rusty iron like nails, and the highest signal is usually really big rusty metal. And everything else is a good target. If you get a good signal and you lift your coil higher off the ground and still get a signal at 10 inches, usually this will be big rusty iron or drinks can. Totlot kids parks with woodchips would be a great place to test it out, minimum rubbish and good mix if goodies to learn the machine, like coins, jewellery and other odd metal things. Just remember, most finds are just trash anyway, I dig about 300 holes in a hunt and only get 30-40 good finds, and I have one of the best detectors for the job. It's a dig everything machine, but yes it will find the goodies if you swing over them, and remember it can sound bad even if it's good just because its deeper. Sand pits Woodchip parks Dry sand on the beach ( but not so much on the wet sand because of minerals ) Parks that get used for events. Ploughed fields All good places for that machine. Give it a try, its hard at first because most of the targets are trash, but soon you will be able to recognize a signal as good or bad and avoid digging it if you need to. It's called cherry picking, just hitting the best signals. But you have to dig a few hundred holes to get the hang of it. Advantage is it only really detects to about 6 inches deep so the holes you have to dig are small. Let me know if you give it a try, I would love to hear about your first experience. 👍👍👍👍
@@HOARDHUNTER1 Wow, that was a very quick and detailed answer. I will indeed let you know when i use it. I plan to use it on a beach in the uk very soon, near to where i live. If i need any advise am i ok to hit you up again ?. Thanks again for your advice, i will hopefully do some digging very soon
@@menacegtr yes that's no problem, just remember that on wet beach your machine will give off false signals, one way to make sure it's a good target, is turn 90 degrees and re-check the target. But you will still find stuff, just expect to dig and not find anything, the salt in the moving water under the sand tricks the detector into thinking there is a target below the coil. But if the signal is loud and clear, and good tone in both directions its definitely worth digging. I bet you find a few coins on your first try 👍👍👍
yes and no... the ace 200i is a much better machine because of super fast recovery speed compared to 250 stuttering confused mistake reading microchip which is very frustrating. but the 250 is as capable at finding stuff that the 200i can find so is not an UPGRADE really. BUT if it was a matter of can only afford that price range at the moment , then 200i kills the 250 and any accessories that you have for the 250 fit and work on 200i, so in that case the 200i would definately replace the 250. hope that helps you out bud Thanks for watching Darren
WarFever777 i have the garrett AT Pro international over £600 and i still only find the same stuff at the same depth as the ace 200i, i just have better settings like ground balance, i would suggest a 300i or 400i and then XP DEUS because xp deus kills everything else. pinpoint feature is very handy and 300i has better KHz setting. 300i is about as pro as you can get for that price, tried and tested by millions and does not cost 4 family members and a dog lol will last you years and still get your money back when you upgrade to a XP DEUS in a good few years. but i only pick 300i over 200i because of khz setting and pinpoint. makes life too easy. hope it helps you figure some things out and glad i can help thanks Darren
Mark Griffin Absolutely, this is much better than an ace 250 and on par with a Garrett AT Pro. The I.D numbers are a really good in helping guess what it is before you dig it. Thanks Darren 👍
I got the very same garrett ace 200i had a play with it in the back yard and found a $200, Leatherman super tool, ( had workman doing some work in the yard one of them lost it ) found it about a foot down, the next day went down the beach but didn't find much to brag about. just know the bigger the target it will still pick it up a foot down. so really top detector.
Paul Gains not bad, your machine has made it's money back on one find. The 200i is the best detector Garrett has for price and performance, and it's even better with the NEL HUNTER coil. Minerals on the beach make it hard to detect but you will still find stuff, and woodchip play parks are amazing for mega cash. Keep an eye on all the numbers on my AT PRO videos aswell because the target numbers were the exact same and it only goes about an inch deeper than the 200i. Not worth upgrading to the AT PRO because it's not much better than the 200i, the best feature of the AT PRO is the BLACK colour of the control box lol, and that's not worth £650. Enjoy your machine it's ten times better than the old ace 250 and the numbers display helps you to guess what it is before you dig it, like 77 is an old one penny, 54,55 is a ring pull tab, 80, 81 is old round pound, 79 is new pound, 82, is a two pound coin, 40,41 is foil. These become stuck in your head so when keep your eyes on the numbers, and you will learn your machine really fast. ATB Darren
Asteris just headphone jack and speaker but i suppose you could connect another sound device with an adapter pin and standard audio lead . inbuilt speaker is very loud but no volume control, best to get headphones with volume control built or your ears will be ringing, on the plus side if you have bad hearing it would be fine without earphones.
Asteris the recovery speed is when.. say you have a coin on the floor and you swing past it one way it will DING, then you swing past it the other way it will DING again... but if you swing too fast or you have more than one coin on the floor, the detector cant DING for first target and RECOVER to DING again for the next target, Good recovery speed means if there is like 4 coins under the coil detecter will DING DING DING DING in very fast reaction time..on older aces the DINGS would take so long the next ding would muck up and be a bad DING or just give a bad signal even though both targets were good. so the faster it can re-beep a new target very close to the first one and process it clearly means good recovery.
Asteris yes it does, the 200i is basically an upgraded 150, it has loads faster recovery and also the number identification which can be very helpful and the high tone has been set in an earlier range, this help I.D targets as good that the ACE 150 would show as not so good. if you can you should try and get the ACE 300i as the pinpoint mode and better frequency and more sensitivity are more than worth the extra price, but if your only looking at the 200i it is still a capable machine, my one month finds video was all found using 200i in the woods, so if you get the 200i buy a pinpointer you wont regret it thanks. Darren
HOARD HUNTER Darren thank you for the answers. I was looking for 200i because I wan to search beach and the price was reasonable(200€) but once you mentioned the 300 model, I checked it out and the price is 300€ not so big difference,t his is the maximum money I d give though. Is it much better than 200? does it search deeper? would I need a better machine than 200i for searching on the beach? What would you suggest? Thank you for the precious help
Asteris i would not purchase an ACE for the beach it has too many problems and struggles to run without going crazy. every beach i have tried sent my machine so mad saying signals everywhere but after digging 50 holes with only 3 having targets, its really not a beach machine. parks, woods, farms, hills are fine but salt water beaches have too much mineral interference because its a single frequency machine, pulse induction machines best on beaches. but yes the 300i is a much more useful machine its extra features help cut time on each hole and help get to the target faster. i have dug holes and still get signal to find the target was in the side wall of the hole, 5 mins of wasted digging and pinpoint mode would have just shown me where the target was in the first place, so very helpful. thanks hope this helps
