I can see why you love the skirt so much… It’s a beautiful skirt! It looks absolutely darling on you! I truly do love the style you created! I also learned how to do a quick “mitered” corner from you! I’m going to have to practice this process, because you make it look so easy! Thank you for sharing!
Myra Lorraine it’s actually not hard to do them. I should do them more on garments. So far I’ve used the technique for placemats and table runners 😂. This fabric was screaming for that. Thanks for watching.
I just want to take a minute and thank you for sharing all your wonderful tips when you are sewing!! Such a wealth of knowledge and it is so invaluable to learn all of this!! the topstitching...the zipper...the mitered corners....and the fabric thickness and fitting issues!! Thanks sooooo much! And the skirt is beautiful!! I too love the fabric!! You look fantastic in it...the top matches perfectly!!
I love this Idea! Thank-you again Karina for sharing with us your sewing hacks. Your such a natural good teacher, and your inspiring. I wish someday we can have a sewing friends reunion. I live in California USA, so it would be a challenge, but mabe someday we sewing friends can meet up for fun.!
rebecca estrada I’d love to go to the US, I’d literally take 2 outfits to wear so I could bring my suitcase back full of fabric and notions 😂. For now traveling seems very difficult to achieve :(
Gorgeous skirt,😍 Karina! The fabric is lovely and the demo of mitered corners was very helpful. Love the top stitching details and the faux flat felled seam. Thanks for sharing another great video.👍
Love the skirt and love love the fabric. Also love the fact that you don't care that you will match your cushions. I match someone's curtains as I made a Kielo dress from a pair of cotton curtains. And I've made a pencil skirt from upholstery fabric and it soften like a dream. I'm really enjoying all you variances of a pencil skirt. Hope there is more to come.
That’s the beauty of being almost 40 😂.... I do what I want and make clothes with whatever fabric I like.... even if I match the sofa! Thanks for watching:)
That skirt looks amazing on you! Love it! Here's a tip to soften it - wash it in Coke. It has to be name brand Coke. Diet Coke doesn't work. If you have a top loader, add a litre directly to the water and wash as you normally would. If you have a front loader, add a half litre directly to the fabric inside and wash as you normally would. Because you're using home dec fabric, it may take a couple of washes in the Coke to get the softness you're looking for. It will not stain your fabric. This works for every stiff fabric I've tried it on. It turns the original stiff denim into a luxurious soft denim that feels like it's taken years to wear in, without affecting the color!
Great skirt Karina! Reminds me of when I was in high school in the 70's and I made some fabulous jackets out of upholstery fabric. Thanks for the mitered corner lesson making it look so easy as usual and I did not comment on your striped pants, but those turned out fabulous also. Love your work and thanks again for sharing with us.
Thank you for all the tips. Really nice skirt. You can wash your skirt in coke cola soda. Regular not diet. Use low water and just coke and it will come out really soft. It doesn’t stain your fabric it really works great!!
The pattern turned out so beautifully and those colors are amazing. Those mitered corners who would’ve thought to do that. “Que experta”. Thank you for sharing I might buy that pattern as well. I made my first Ogden Cami and on my second one already.
Lifting Pins and Needles I registered but I did not realize it was a PDF pattern I’ve never done that before and I don’t know how many sheets it will take.
Karina, as always a great tutorial. Love to see your makes and all that you share with us. I like the front zipper too! I have a skirt with one and it is fun and different. I like the fact that you loved the fabric so much you wanted a skirt out of it. I sky away from prints because I think that I am too short for them. Thanks again and fabulous job! You are wonderful to share your process with us.
You are very welcome. The long zipper is so cool in my opinion but it’s hard to find the right zipper (length and color). I was fortunate to have this one :)
That reminded me of The Sound of Music when Julie Andrews made the children play clothes out of curtains. That actually was very pretty I hope it softens up in the wash or it could rub your legs a bit on the seams give it a couple of washes before you wear it. Well done 👍🏼
Julie Hale this will be comfy after a couple washes so I’ll be doing that frequently. It’s actually not that rough to the touch. Thanks for watching :)
Skirt and purple top is a great pair. Like how you are adapting this pattern to a number of different "styles". Proving the value, again and again, of a well fitting basic pattern. Now you have me wondering what I may find in our local upholstery outlet. Especially since we're now moving into fall/winter that can handle heavier fabrics, with ease. Thank you for sharing and providing inspiration.
Oldtimer Lee sometimes the best prints are th is ones for curtains 😂. I have a bit pieces more upholstery fabric in my stash that will become skirts :)
Oh Karina, what a beautifull skirt. So simple but a lot of technique shown here. I wander if the fabric is not to hot for tropical Brasil weather. But that is why you put in that zipper. You can zip the skirt off 😂😂😉. Love the print also. So nice to see you.
Having a basic skirt pattern is a life changer. So many possibilities:) thanks this linen top is RTW and the fit is questionable 😊.... I’m thinking of undoing the top and reshaping it to me.
Love it! And I haven't heard of the coke trick so thank you to the other commentators. Looking forward to seeing you blending with your sofa cushions! X
I love the colors in your skirt!!! You did a great job with your tutorial. I've never actually made a zip front skirt before, but honestly, it doesn't look any more difficult than any other zipper insertion. I guess the tricky part is finding the right zipper in the right color and size. I hope you when you make your green top you'll wear it with the skirt again, and share with us if the fabric eventually softens up. I've seen some absolutely gorgeous home dec fabrics that I would love to use for garment making but have been afraid of the stiffness and possible fading and shrinkage. Good luck with your sofa cushions. Maybe some music in the background would make the sewing process more pleasant.
Nadine Woods I made the cushions yesterday’s! I’d filmed the vlog a few days before :) ... after months of procrastinating I made them in 30 min. I think home decor fabrics are suited to this style of pencil skirt only. I wouldn’t make pants or a dress. The zipper is not hard at all and I was lucky to have this one in my stash!
Love your skirt Karina! That print, style and fit is amazing looks so great on you. You've really made me think more about skirts and what styles to make that suit me. Re softening that fabric - a woman in our group suggested we try emptying a can of coke into the wash water in the machine with stiff fabrics like linen, denim & canvas and voila! it comes out nice and soft. I tried it and it worked like a charm so I do that all the time now with heavier, stiff fabrics.
Kathleen Meadows I never drink Coca Cola so I always forget to buy some. I’ve done it before too and it’s amazing. I’ll force myself to buy some very very very soon. This fabric is not that rough at all. It’s the thickness.... thanks for watching 😊
I never drink it either :) and when I told my husband I wanted to buy some to wash up some denim he looked at me like I'd grown an extra head :) I was amazed at how well it worked! Another GREAT reason NOT to drink it :)
Try washing your skirt with a can of coca-cola without detergent. Just coke and water in the washer. It softens jean fabric. It might soften the fabric you used. Cute skirt.
I’ve actually done that before but have forgotten to buy some. I have high hopes for that trick. The fabric is not rough. It’s just stiff. Thanks for watching:)

You've created a beautiful skirt! Your 'mitred corner' demo is superb! That'll be my method from now on.
Kerstin Shadbolt I’m glad it helped :) it was really important for this skirt to reduce the bulk 😊
I can see why you love the skirt so much… It’s a beautiful skirt! It looks absolutely darling on you! I truly do love the style you created! You are very welcome and I’m so happy this is useful. I need to fix the fit of the purple top (RTW) and make a green top :)
Love that fabric and those mitered corners were perfect. I love the exposed zipper, such a pretty skirt.
Thank you! I was lucky to have this zipper to match it ... to complete my vision. Thanks for watching 🤗
Great tutorial on mitered corners. I’m so pleased I found this video in my Library. Thank you for explaining things so clear and concisely.

I would also love to visit Brazil, but everything costs money!
So cute! This would be a great jeans skirt, too. Try the old "wash it in Coca Cola" trick to soften the fabric.
Rob yN I always forget to buy Coca Cola! I just don’t drink it 😊.
Gorgeous skirt,😍 Karina! The fabric is lovely and the demo of mitered corners was very helpful. Love the top stitching details and the faux flat felled seam. Thanks for sharing another great video.👍
To be honest, doing the real flat felled seams is not a technique I’m drawn to 😜... this is easier :) thanks for watching.

Susan Kennedy sometimes the best prints are for furniture 😂. I love this one and so will my sofa.
Totally agree!
Thank you for all the tips. Really nice skirt. You can wash your skirt in coke cola soda. Regular not diet. Use low water and just coke and it will come out really soft. It doesn’t stain your fabric it really works great!!
It’s on my list for my next trip to the supermarket 😊. I have high hopes :)

doowopshopgal this skirt pattern is totally free from marfy if you open an account on the website :)
Lifting Pins and Needles well that’s a pretty good deal then. What am I waiting for. Thank you.
Lifting Pins and Needles I registered but I did not realize it was a PDF pattern I’ve never done that before and I don’t know how many sheets it will take.
It’s a small file. About 12 pages. Very easy to assemble :)

Beautiful skirt, Thanks for sharing how to do the mitered corners!!
Glad to share. They really are easy to do :)
That could be because your mum and I are about the same age.
You are so inspiring I just love watching you
Aww thank you so much!
Another fantastic hack!! You look amazing and all the techniques are so valuable to the community. Thank you!!!
Obsessed Stitcher you’re very welcome! This was a fun make, simple yet full of tricks :)

powita is watching there’s a chunk of the year where the weather here is super nice. Not for the middle of summer for sure.
Brilliant hack Karina. Love the colour of that purple top on you and it matches the skirt perfectly. I seriously need to get a skirt pattern sorted.
Having a basic skirt pattern is a life changer. So many possibilities:) thanks this linen top is RTW and the fit is questionable 😊.... I’m thinking of undoing the top and reshaping it to me.
Beautiful skirt! Absolutely love it! You did a fantastic job, as always😊❤
Patricia Bennett thank you :)
Love it! And I haven't heard of the coke trick so thank you to the other commentators. Looking forward to seeing you blending with your sofa cushions! X
Lol I’ll look ridiculous but I don’t care. That’s the beauty of being my age. I just don’t care 😂. Thanks for watching

Absolutely love your hack on that skirt. I very much want to do that.

Maria Eugenia Femat gracias. Si esta un poco tiesa pero no es muy áspera. La lavaré varias veces :)
Love it. I didn’t think I would when you first showed the fabric but I was wrong it gorgeous

Great job as all your makes are.
Thank you 😊
You've inspired me to have a go! :-)
Go go go 😊🤗
