Robert E Lee * (Lee's advice to a new mother) Teach your child to deny himself. * Duty then is the sublimest word in the English language. You should do your duty in all things. You can never do more, you should never wish to do less. * If a friend asks a favor, you should grant it if it is reasonable; if not, tell him plainly why you cannot: You will wrong him and wrong yourself by equivocation of any kind. * Get correct views of life, and learn to see the world in its true light. It will enable you to live pleasantly, to do good, and, when summoned away, to leave without regret. * In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an institution is a moral & political evil in any country. It is useless to expatiate on its disadvantages. * We should live, act, and say nothing to the injury of anyone. It is not only best as a matter of principle, but it is the path to peace and honor. * If you have any fault to find with anyone, tell him, not others, of what you complain; there is no more dangerous experiment than that of undertaking to be one thing before a man's face and another behind his back * In all my perplexities and distresses, the Bible has never failed to give me light and strength. * Never do a wrong thing to make a friend--or to keep one. * I cannot trust a man to control others who cannot control himself. * Secession is nothing but revolution. The framers of our Constitution never exhausted so much labor, wisdom, and forbearance in its formation, and surrounded it with so many guards and securities, if it was intended to be broken by every member of the Confederacy at will. * What a cruel thing is war; to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world! * My heart bleeds at the death of every one of our gallant men. * So far from engaging in a war to perpetuate slavery, I am rejoiced that slavery is abolished. I believe it will be greatly for the interests of the South. So fully am I satisfied of this, as regards Virginia especially, that I would cheerfully have lost all I have lost by the war, and have suffered all I have suffered, to have this object attained. * The idea that the Southern people are hostile to the negroes and would oppress them, if it were in their power to do so, is entirely unfounded. They have grown up in our midst, and we have been accustomed from childhood to look upon them with kindness. ...

The very idea that that southern slavery and their hostility towards "negroes" "is entirely unfounded" was pure propaganda. How would you feel if your children walked by a statue everyday of a man whos history was to fight to keep you and your daughter and your ancestors kept in chains as slaves. Youd want it down. Think about it.
I wonder if “they” that want statues all pulled down are interested in the Georgia Guidestones and if “they” need more time for what has been planned to humanity ?
Will the Georgia Guidestones help guide these new Woke people ????
I’m afraid they have no idea of real history nor the part they play in the planned succession ……
@@thisisrob8750 What right would I have to knock it down? That statue wasn't up because we believe in slavery. It was up because it's history. If we could all knock down stuff we disagree with, this whole country would be ground zero. Think about that

There were two boxes.
Why would you expect anything to be under a monument that never meant to be removed. Why would a time capsule even be there? Make no sense.
“And in the closet behind me is where I locked all of the qualified museum people so that nobody could steal my spotlight and stop me from bulldozing through this entire box before the next commercial break”.

Robert E Lee
* (Lee's advice to a new mother) Teach your child to deny himself.
* Duty then is the sublimest word in the English language. You should do your duty in all things. You
can never do more, you should never wish to do less.
* If a friend asks a favor, you should grant it if it is reasonable; if not, tell him plainly why you cannot:
You will wrong him and wrong yourself by equivocation of any kind.
* Get correct views of life, and learn to see the world in its true light. It will enable you to live
pleasantly, to do good, and, when summoned away, to leave without regret.
* In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an
institution is a moral & political evil in any country. It is useless to expatiate on its disadvantages.
* We should live, act, and say nothing to the injury of anyone. It is not only best as a matter of principle,
but it is the path to peace and honor.
* If you have any fault to find with anyone, tell him, not others, of what you complain; there is no more
dangerous experiment than that of undertaking to be one thing before a man's face and another behind
his back
* In all my perplexities and distresses, the Bible has never failed to give me light and strength.
* Never do a wrong thing to make a friend--or to keep one.
* I cannot trust a man to control others who cannot control himself.
* Secession is nothing but revolution. The framers of our Constitution never exhausted so much labor,
wisdom, and forbearance in its formation, and surrounded it with so many guards and securities, if it was
intended to be broken by every member of the Confederacy at will.
* What a cruel thing is war; to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and
happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our
neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world!
* My heart bleeds at the death of every one of our gallant men.
* So far from engaging in a war to perpetuate slavery, I am rejoiced that slavery is abolished. I believe it
will be greatly for the interests of the South. So fully am I satisfied of this, as regards Virginia especially,
that I would cheerfully have lost all I have lost by the war, and have suffered all I have suffered, to have
this object attained.
* The idea that the Southern people are hostile to the negroes and would oppress them, if it were in their
power to do so, is entirely unfounded. They have grown up in our midst, and we have been accustomed
from childhood to look upon them with kindness.

for me Bob will always be the Alexandria school boy who loved to attend church on Washington Street and said he took 'full responsibility" also the one part on PBS is a good biography, thanks for posting his sayings, he was also a great wit. Arlington House is worth a visit if you come to DC as a tourist. Also, I lived near the bronze in Richmond for a time, glad to see what is in the time capsule. God bless.
The very idea that that southern slavery and their hostility towards "negroes" "is entirely unfounded" was pure propaganda.
Reading any accounts of Lee's cruelty towards his slaves shines a light on these atrocities towards blacks of that time. Clearly Lee trying his utmost to mislead. Like all proslavery apologist.

My training and experience in working with national landmarks and conservation and restoration of these valuable reminders of our past had me cringing at this amateur recovery operation. It clearly shows this woman is appointed to her position and not deserving to lead this operation. She is impolite as well. The lack of proper equipment and lighting really shows the level of amateurish attention to detail. Using that steel plaster blade was butchery!
These women seem annoyed and bothered by what they are doing. I know having a film crew there can not be easy but whats annoying is watching them do this.
They put the Bible right on the plastic tray? Then later the woman says "they put things on the paper so things don't stick"?? This lady then goes and say "I like clay Potts blah, blah...,
these are just books"???

So many experts in the comments graduated from the school of watching National Treasure 1 and 2 several times.

Why did we remove the statue ?
I have no idea, it made me sad, but Bob never asked to have a statue, I lived on the connecting street at one time.
We the People didn't remove the statute. A small committee of anti-American dummies removed the statue. I'm guessing a George Floyd statue will take it's place? We are following China's "Great Leap Forward". Only approved history will be recognized, while the rest will be rewritten to achieve the desired narrative. This capsule was placed at a time of civil unrest, only to be opened later in a time of civil unrest.
@EZ Sticker so you're admitting that the confederacy was racist? Good to know we're on the same page
BLM
We removed the statue for a couple reasons
1. We don't celebrate losers
2. We shouldn't be celebrating people who fought expressly to preserve slavery and white supremacy
Put the statue in a museum, don't celebrate it in the town Square. Besides, a bunch of those statues were put up as a reaction to reconstruction to intimidate newly free African Americans
Are there no men in this department? 😎
