Having seen several of my children's friends deal with mental illness while young, I empathize with your struggles. You are a lovely person and it shines in all your videos. Your reviews are wonderful and so insightful. Big virtual hug sent from the USA. I think HR Is the hardest job. I have 5 people who work for me (I work at a university) and I am constantly calling HR with employee questions. It is not just about forms, but teaching others how to deal with interpersonal problems. My brother-in-law is a mystery writer and he started writing when he worked full time as a lawyer. Just carve out time each day and write a bit every day. It's possible! You are my son's age and he always says that your twenties is the time to dream and take chances, mainly because he knows he can always crash at our house ;-)

Thank you, mental health is one of those odd ones, it's invisible 90% of the time and the sufferers rarely know how to express what it is that is going on for them when they are at their most ill.
Thank you for your kind words and accepts massive hugs.
HR can be tough, you have to be able to give bad news and to be willing to someone else's place to vent. More than anything you need to be able to put yourself into both sides of a conflict and try to understand how you can move forward.
That's amazing! Well done to your brother-in-law. I wish I could feel like I could dream or take chances but I just don't anymore. I am too afraid of breaking the stability I've built for myself.

Thank you for answering my question about your writing process. I've been creatively blocked for a while now, so it was helpful to hear how you go about getting the words on the page. Incidentally, my dream job is moving to England where I become a successful essayist. As for you filming videos on mental health, I do think they could be enormously beneficial to viewers who may be struggling at the moment. Seeing how far you've come might make others feel hopeful and give them strength to keep fighting. But, I think you should only do them if you feel called to. If your nervous about doing them, perhaps the time isn't yet right. Great video, Sophie!

That's my pleasure! Hopefully you can achieve that dream in the future.
I would like to be able to share a bit about how I have gotten to where I am now compared to where I was. Especially since there is even debate in the medical community as to whether the illness I have even does have periods of 'remission' as it were. I will be having a think over the next few weeks and will let you all know.

I learned that when I started making videos I started thinking differently while reading as well. The mental health videos sound like they would be amazing. I would love to see your videos about personal experiences, but only if you feel comfortable discussing them. Those herbal teas sound delicious.

I think I read with the awareness I need to communicate worthwhile thoughts on the book to others, as well as gain enjoyment. It's still a very enjoyable process but a little different!
I am going to have a proper think about whether or not I want to make some over the next few weeks and I'll be sure to let you guys know what I decide.
They are so lovely. If you can get a hold of them, then give them a try!

Thank you for taking the time and making this QA videos, it was lovely to get to know you a little bit more :) So, write a novel in little cabin in Canada? I guess, thats a dream job for lots of booktubers :)) I would like to see some videos about mental health and hear the story you went through, but at the same time, I think, it is very personal and you need to be 110% comfortable to share things like this on internet. Even though booktube community is very friendly and welcoming, internet as a media is not. So, your safety and happiness needs to be at first place, before anything else. (Sorry, sometimes it is difficult for me to express exactly what i want to say in English, but I am sure, you know what I mean) :)

It was my pleasure and I had a lot of fun filming it and thinking of all the answers.
A Canadian cabin would be perfect but, you know, pipedreams.
It is personal and I want to spend a few weeks thinking about it properly before I would want to actually make anything. I have had negative responses when I've spoken about this previously so I want to be sure that I'm doing it for the right reasons.

Great video, it's lovely to see someone so passionate about their interests :) I would be really interested in seeing videos about mental health. I think that the fact you're so eloquent and insightful would translate really well to videos about mental health, and help educate viewers about this important topic. Although please don't ever feel pressure to make any type of video because it's your happiness that is the most important thing and if you don't want to do it, then that's perfectly fine! And your fears about the reaction to the topic is understandable: however, although I can't speak for everyone, I think most if not all of your subscribers would be really interested in what you have to say about mental health, just like they are about your other wonderful videos :) PS been subbed to your channel for a while, love your content! Hope you're having a great day :)

What you said about purging books to help your family cope with your potential suicide made me sad, but proud of you (that sounds so odd). It's the unselfishness of that act that struck me. My grandparents constantly purged in the years building up to their deaths so that their family wouldn't have that burden to take on. And comparatively my other grandmother hasn't purged once in her whole life and never considers what her death will mean for us as far as sorting out her property. I'm all for death preparedness in all it's facets. Though it was sad to imagine you being in such a bad place mentally at that young age, you were really considering what you death would mean. That's something not a lot of people ever do :)

P.S. I have PCOS, too. Small world :)

    • @SophieIslington
      @SophieIslington  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

At that stage I was so unwell that it was something that I needed to think about seriously. I knew I was already putting my family though a lot and I just didn't want the physical act of clearing away my things to be too arduous alongside of the other things that deaths entail.:(

Take a chance, have no regrets!!! Move to Canada and write novels if that's what you want!! You're young, and way too smart and talented to work a day job that'll always be there. I moved to NYC and it made all the difference.
I love your page, and have read dozens of books because of you. Believe in your talent!!!! You have NOTHING TO LOSE!!!!

What made you switch from Science to HR? Your job sounds rewarding, glad you enjoy it. Sorry to hear that you had mental health problems (and were suicidal), glad to hear that you have recovered. I'd be interested in some videos on mental health/literature if you end up doing them.
