Great playing Ian, and demo of the guitar.....I have a 00 28 on the way and can't wait! Played one for the first time a couple of days ago at a local shop, and it was a revelation, with the short scale, wide neck and smaller body size.
This 00-28 reimagined is definitely a keeper. Soon as you think you might lean toward a small body Gibson give this one a test drive. Thanks for using a capo you demos, that means a lot. 🎤
L O V E it...perfect balance from low to high - plenty loud enough and aesthetically very appealing. IMHO sounds a lot more pleasing that the D28 and the D18 you have demoed lately.
I love the guitar and its sound and its looks. Beautiful! But Ian, may I ask you the question that's been burning on my lips for weeks now? Or..., are you willing to answer me ('cause I'm gonna ask anyway)? See, one of the reasons why your channel has become one of my favourites when it comes to demoing the acoustic guitar, is not JUST the fact that you demonstrate every guitar in the best possible and most sensible way, by picking and strumming in a couple of different manners, plus the use of the capo, and the fact that you really only PLAY the guitar instead of talking about things that might be important to some people, unless your only concern is the sound of the instrument (of which I think that's all that matters - that and looks off course 😁). I ALSO love your video's because of the exceptional sound quality you manage to capture. Hats off to you for that, my friend! 🎩 Now, what I wanted to ask is this: How do you do it? What's the mic you use (I'm not into mics, so I can't tell)? Am I right to say that this might probably not be the best mic for live performances with a band? Obvilously it's the perfect mic to record with, but how do you capture that sound? I think I can see an iMac behind you. Do you keep the EQ flat with every guitar? Do you add anything to alter the sound of the recording? I specifically ask that because it can be a deliberate choice to change just a little bit of the settings just to try to come as close to the pure acoustic tone that you hear when playing. If you clearly experience more bass acoustically and you feel it doesn't really come out like that after recording it, will you alter the settings, or is there no need to do this at all, because the mic and everything else you use is good enough? I know that's a lot to ask, but I'm really interested. Especially the mic. I mean it, all of your demo's sound so good!!! Thank you so much for it! ❤️ You should have a 100.000 describers atleast, 12 months from now. You deserve it.
Hi Mario! Thank you for the kind words my friend! Part of the whole reason I started this channel was to have a reference point for audio on every guitar video I do. They are intended to be recorded consistently from one video to the next, as to give some sort of idea what each guitar sounds like compared to others! The microphone is a Shure KSM32 large diaphragm condenser, placed about 8 inches away and pointed towards where the neck joins the body. The signal goes directly into a Focusrite Saffire interface and into Logic Pro, with no effects or EQ added. The audio in the video has no processing at all! Again, this is to make sure that there is a sonic reference point from guitar to guitar, otherwise the comparisons would be pointless for what I'm trying to do! In terms of the KSM32, it is an excellent microphone for studio work, but would not fare well in a live situation because it picks up so much sound you would doubtless have issues with the PA or amp feeding back. There are many excellent pickup systems out there, and if you have more specific questions about those please don't hesitate to contact me. If you are looking only for a microphone, a simple Shure SM57 can be a good. option for many guitars and playing styles. Check out any live video of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings to see what I mean!
Ian Meadows ; Thank you so much for answering all my questions and more! I have to apologize for the fact that I could have figured out atleast half of my questions just by reading the descriptions beneath all of your video's. It literally popped into my head just two hours ago, that this is something you might have done. So I looked and ... there it was. I feel so stupid! Sorry, haha.. But you just 'told' me even a little bit more. And it's not only interesting, it's actually really helpful, since I'm planning to record some acoustic guitar songs 8 months from now (time is on my side). Your philosophy behind the way you want to give the viewers a perfect sonic reference point from one guitar to another is as simple as it is brilliant. Again, the sound quality is superb, but your concept of doing this gives me (and every other viewer) the perfect tool to compare all these guitars in the fairest way possible. And that makes it very helpful to choose in which direction one should seek. You're gonna get these 100.000 subscribers. You must. Keep up the good work!!! 👍
That’s a luscious Double-O. Looks like 1.75” Nut Width & a nice spread for fingerstyle. Thanks for the demo. BTW-I just bought a Streetmaster after your review. Love it!
I just got a 000-18 last week and I have bonded with that guitar so hard already. Such a versatile guitar and a joy to play. Sounds great finger picked and has more headroom for strumming than the 00-18. If you are specifically a finger picker, 00-18 gets the edge. If you want a more versatile guitar, go with the 000-18. Hope this helps! Both are great choices Edit: Just realized you said 00-28 and not 00-18. Also the rosewood difference. My vote still goes to mahogany for personal preference.
Awesome sounding guitar and great playing on your end. How does the neck compare to their 1 11/16 Martin 00-15M. Appreciate the videos, keep them coming!
David, it does not make a huge difference to me honestly. I play so many guitars each day that it doesn't make a noticeable change either way. I would probably opt for the extra room of the 45mm if I had the choice, even with my small hands.

Very nice! Thank you.
I don't know how you get to play so many different guitars, but I sure do envy you that! Another fine demo!
Hey Dan, I sell guitars for a living! I do feel very lucky for sure!

That's awesome to hear Monty. The Streetmaster is a killer guitar.
Hey Ian, Martin 00-28 or Martin 000-18?? I am deciding between these two. Anyone else can chime in as well. Thanks

00-28. I sell Martins.

It feels just a little wider the the 1-11/16. play one 1st.
they are thinner than the Clapton model .
What kind of capo are you using?
Does it sound beautiful? I think so much!
Heck yeah it does!
@@ianmeadows6351 00-28 or 000-18?
I love 00 size guitars, how does this 45mm nut compare to a 43mm for you (personal preference) for strumming, pick or fingers? Thanks

@@ianmeadows6351 thank you, coming to the same position myself :-)
