I wouldn't totally agree with you on "Earth, Wind & Fire or Maurice White being influenced by Chicago." Chicago did come out first in 1967, and EWF only three years later BUT Maurice and the rest couldn't have drawn their inspiration from Chicago because Chicago is a rock band WITH HORNS, and EWF's brand of music DOES NOT show the slightest similarity to that of Chicago's. They are both really awesome bands with very different music. They DON'T sound the same. The one big commonality they have (why some people think EWF's music is influenced by Chicago) is that multiple Grammy award winner David 'The Hitman' Foster had worked with them separately, with EWF first in the late 70s (After The Love Is Gone) and then with Chicago later in the early 80s (Hard To Say I'm Sorry). Again, with all due respect to Chicago whose music I totally dig as that of EWF's, they DID NOT per se influence or WERE NOT an influence of EWF with regards to songwriting.
