I've been in the US Air Force now for 10 years, switching to the Oregon Air National Guard as a F-22 Crew chief. Fighter squadron. I played this game as a child. I dreamt of being a pilot. Although I don't fly... I'm part of it. To some level. And that means so much to me. This song brings goosebumps and memories. I've been an Ace Combat fan since Shattered Skies. My Mom finally let me buy the game.

Avril cursed at the radio as she tunes it. For some reason, there is a slight whistle. It's mucking the signal as she tries to get a stable one. As she messes with the radio to clear it, there's a brief moment of static before suddenly, over the now clear radio, a melody of single person lonely whistling.
The tune is slightly off, but as the signal grows stronger, the tune becomes increasingly clear. Soon, the others around her turn to the radio in her hands. The dogs happily bark at the radio, showing they know the person. But aside from those present, they shouldn't be so happy to hear someone else, unless there is a person out there that they would be happy to meet again.
"Trigger?" Tabloid blinks.
"The dogs always did like Trigger," one of the guards mutters, then again, they never stopped him from playing with them either. He even stole scraps for them from the mess hall. Twice in Solitary for that didn't deter him.
Then, there is Count's voice.
"Didn't know you know that song Trigger."
The whistling simply continued on. The pitch was less than perfect, the notes not carried as they should have been. Passable nonetheless.
And it showed as suddenly someone else joined the whistling.
Then another. Followed by another. Then two voices joined with words. Another voice suddenly began singing as well. The lyrics are more or less butchered, but as the group begins singing as one, Trigger and Count clear as well, the hymn sung by pilots going north to meet the enemy, is fills the airwaves.
"Are those Oseans?" an Erusean voice asks over the radio.
"Reinforcements?" an Osean voice suddenly adds, "Is it them?"
"Can't be," another Osean voice responds.
"But who's singing?" another Erusean.
"Can it be Three Strikes?" someone breaths out.
"Don't care," an Osean states, "I haven't heard that song in years. I missed it."
"It's a good song," an Erusean adds, before suddenly adding, "Why are we still fighting? We don't even know what's going on?"
"We are winning the war, crushing Osea and ensuring Erusean victory!" another Erusean snarls and the princess shudders, making a scared sound as the dogs growl angrily and cluster in front of her as though to shield her from the voice she clearly recognized.
"Thoughts in endless in flight," an Erusean voice suddenly sings.
"Day turns to night," an Osean sings.
In moments, a chorus of voices are singing. Osean and Erusean. Singing for peace in a world torn by war that they don't even know if it is still being fought or if it has ended. They don't know what their reason for fighting in a war they can't get a picture of.
But now... A song offers them something.
Peace.
"Those who sing are traitors to Erusea!" that same voice and one of the dogs jumps up on Avril's arm before his handler can pull back on his leash and barks loudly into the active radio making the Radical on the other end give a start.
"The Princess' mutt?! I thought you idiots killed her!? We can't have her running around! She is as dangerous as Harling if the plan hadn't succeeded in killing him!"
Silence in the group. More were likely also dumbfounded. Some had stopped singing. Count's voice could be heard raising a ruckus.
Then Trigger's voice plows through on its own. Rallying the remaining singers. Their voices growing in strength not just from the closing distance or how close they are, but as they make themselves heard, loud and clear, what they think of the war and that they sing for all the fallen, for the peace they shattered, the skies they rent apart, and the lives they have ruined.
They sing to bring an end to it all.
"Starts from within," a weak voice suddenly joins the chorus, just above a few octaves, but as the song goes on, the voice regains strength. It clears as it sings, letting all know who the Mr. Voice is.
"President Harling is ALIVE?!" the Radical now sounds frightened.
Because of his words, brought on by the song of a brave group of individuals, a man thought dead, a ghost in the dark of war, now reveals he has merely been sleeping.
"Which way do I go?" the Princess suddenly joins in, her beautiful voice adding to the melody of the song, "How fast is too slow? The journey has its time within us."
"If a man can fly over an ocean," Tabloid suddenly joins with a genuine smile on his face, "And no mountains can get in his way."
A guard joins in as well, "Will he fly on forever Searching for something to believe."
And like a snowball down the side of a mountain. The guards and prisoners of the 444th Squadron become one, immediate chorus. Their choir-like addition over the tiny handheld startles many.
"Princess?" an Erusean sounds awed.
"We have our Princess here?" another of her soldiers responds.
"We have to protect her!" an older voice states, "Are we not men in her service? Soldiers of the Kingdom of Erusea! We will not let the Radicals rebuild their failure that was destroyed by ISAF! We will not be beaten again!"
"We got President Harling to protect too!" an Osean chips in, "We do that and you do that, then both can meet and maybe we can finally have an idea about what to do with this damn war!"
"Agreed!" the Conservative officer declares, "We will fight together and stop the Radicals from forwarding their damn ambitions of endless war!"
A new chorus, of voices agreeing, resound over Tyler Island. In that moment, the war's endless future is abruptly ended. As Osean and Erusean join together, hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, to step forward into a new era of understanding and reconciliation.
For the Radical, he and the rest of the Radicals now have to stand before the light of peace and harmony brought on by this.

Guess that makes two of us.” “Full Band?! But- Bandog had me kill you!” “Then you were obviously more focused on your kills then his plane.” A familiar grumpy voice growls over the radio. “McKinsey was a turncoat. I unlocked Full Band’s ejection seats. He gave over everything he had on our Colonel. The asshole got assigned to a penal unit and got himself blasted out of the sky when he tried to escape.” Bandog replied. “Who wants to make a bet that Trigger ends the war single handed?” High roller laughs. “That’s right boys! I’m still at the table!”

I would've liked a lot of fan service, but they didn't give much in that regard. It really should have tried something unique, and stuck with the penal unit thing. But I can't change the past, and I've accepted that 7 is a lost game. It never could've held a tee to these games. And I've moved on to better games.

This song always got me choked up. Even now. Especially from the second to last mission when you are flying to save the world and are joined by fellow pilots from the two previously warring nations. Fighting each other no longer, but uniting to fight for something bigger, singing a song to show their shared love of flying

Imagine what it would have been like during the very recent Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, where so many innocent young soldiers were sent to slaughter for some stupid barren piece of mountains (which was instigated by Turkey btw) the rest of the world had already forgotten about.

I gonna admit, i never played Ace Combat before. But I start listening to this soundtrack thanks to Ace Combat 7's Daredevil that made me know how epic Ace Combat soundtrack is. So I started listening more and more of Ace Combat Ost, and all of them are very great. The favorites would be Ace Combat 6's The Liberation of Gracemeria, Ace Combat Zero's Zero and Ace Combat 5's Unsung War. And I came across to this soundtrack, The Journey Home, at first I thought it would be a musical like The Liberation of Gracemeria or Zero but turns out it's a song. I don't know the context of it (if you know please tell me), but it gave me a feel of an end of a war, as one of the ace starts singing followed by others like they were singing because the war had ended and they were on a journey back home. The other version was great, but I like this one better.
Don't know what happened to me, but turns out I became an Ace Combat fan without playing any of their games.

The Journey Home is a song of peace that's used several times throughout the game. The plot of AC5 is a little convoluted, but to put it simply a war is orchestrated between two countries, with a third pulling the strings for their own gain. Towards the end of the game, the leaders of both waring factions meet and call for peace and a unified stand against those pulling the strings. This version of the song plays during the intro to the mission Aces. The start of the mission sees your squad of four fighters grow into a small army of planes from both sides of the war, friendly and enemy, united as one with a common goal: peace. With each plane that joins you, another voice joins in the song. Explaining it here doesn't do it justice, if you can, play AC5 (and the other games for that matter), or at the very least look up a video of someone playing through the Aces mission.
