    As a first generation traditional blackthorn stick maker in Germany, originally from Rhode Island, USA, I want to learn this art. I have enough sticks!

    Thanks for this video! I'll show it to my Aikido pals, the Jo we normally use is a bit longer, but I'd say these moves can be thereto adapted in interesting ways. As soon as we can meet again of course...

      @Combatprofessor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are all actually traditional jo moves adapted to walking stick. We use a lot of jo in our style of jujitsu

    • @outis_____5782
      @outis_____5782 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Combatprofessor I see, thanks. Mostly we use the jo with a variety of two-handed grips, but no reason not to expand the range.

      @@outis_____5782 our techniques start with a wayfarer or journeyman set, moving around the stick in walking stick position, launching from there then Hannibal two handed style work then sword then grappling. Sort of a sequence following the potential range flow . About half related to sword directly . A portion is consistent with aikido but these aspects I realize are more akin to ninjitsu Hanbo . Ultimately all the same root

    the cold steel stick is very slow, awkward to manipulate with one hand. i suggest a two hand grip, shoulder width apart, rotating through the trunk and punching as in boxing. if the opponent grabs the stick i can twist it out of his hands, wrap it around either arm, bring him down or do the same with positioning the stick around the back of his neck, pulling the head down and use the knee, etc. --mike battle

      We use a Doyle style grip if the fight persists. Thus video is about non telegraphic launches from a walking stick position, not a duel. You can’t deploy unpredictably from a walking positions with a two handed grip.

      Professor, where can I purchase a cane like the one you use in the video. I don’t mean the Shillelagh, but the “rectangle” shaped on. I would like to purchase a couple. Thank you.

    • @Combatprofessor

      The company warsticks.ca no longer operates sadly. There is a list of top Irish stick sellers here
      shillelaghstudies.com/buy-sticks/
      I’ve started making my own out of axe handles. Takes a little work but less expensive and very durable

    I´ve seen once a guy with a weapon-grade walking stick. He was old and the neighbourhood definitely had seen better days...
    In the same place, I had seen youths with bicycle chains wrapped around them (in a mostly concealed fashion) and I had seen a little boy, maybe 6, with a ca. 15cm/6In fixed blade knife. Once, I had even seen guys with baseball bats and a pitbull at night.
    The weirdest weapon I´ve seen on the street belonged to a girl and it was a different city. She had two metal spikes in her hair like the Asians do/did. Considering all this and the crazy number of people carrying knives, I wonder why such walking-sticks aren´t coming back into fashion...

      Agreed. I definitely will not hesitate to carry one particularly as the years roll on. I have a ready collection.
