Willie Mays passed away today June 18th 2024 at the age of 93. One of the All Time Greats! Part of Baseball Royalty! RIP Mr. Mays. Thanks for the memories!
WHAT CCR's first album has been on the top 100 albums since 1971, hell everyone has cut their songs and Aretha made a lot of money off 2 of their songs. AND he's touring right now in 2024
This was his first solo song he wrote, and recorded, after leaving the music industry, because his music was stolen from him, and he made no loyalties off of it. After a lengthy court battle, he won. It was about baseball, but wasn't really about baseball, it was about him being ready to get back in the game of the music industry, that he had lost trust in. He is a talented man. I'm glad that he persevered over it all, and continues to play the game.
@lyndaferguson816 He wanted out of his contract. He still owed the record company like 8 records. For him to terminate the contract, he gave them the rights to his songs. So it may have been stolen from him, but he agreed to it at the time. He wanted out and that was the price to be paid.
I was an Indians fan in my youth, im 82 now. I had a rough childhood and can do anything when i hear this song. An 82 year old lady in her Indians BB shirt feeling like she can take over the world. Overcomes the worst of the bad childhoods. I love BB to this day.
This was one of my Daddy's favorite songs. He passed away almost a month ago. We played this at his funeral and buried him in an Atlanta Braves jersey and wearing his Vietnam veterans hat. I Love you Daddy!
To a baseball fan, the greatest song ever written. It still makes the hair stand up on my arms. Thank you John, and thank you to all the players that made this America's game.
I am a 71 year old woman who loves baseball. When I listen to this song, I miss it even more. No matter what's going on in this world, we all get together when we hear , "PLAY BALL". Thank You John Fogerty!
My son is now 50 and I'm 69. This reminds me of when my son played baseball as a kid. He was a great pitcher but in his freshman year he hyperextended his knee catching a fly ball. Had to have surgery and the doctor told him he could never play again. He cried and so did I.
Mom, I can call you mom. You sound like my late grandmother, oh she loved baseball- was a Dodgers fan from when they were in Brooklyn. She was so very excited when The Rockies finally began playing ball. She passed away in May of '94. I miss her. Anyway have you seen Meat Loaf "Paradise by the Dashboard Light?"
Got to listen to this every opening day of baseball. Get me in the mood for some baseball, does not matter whose playing. Love baseball and can not get enough of John Fogerty.
"Centerfield" is the title track from John Fogerty's album Centerfield, released in 1985. Fogerty's first solo album after a nine-year hiatus. The song is now commonly played at baseball games across the United States. Along with "Take me out to the Ball Game," it is one of the best-known baseball songs. In 2010, Fogerty became the only musician to be celebrated at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony when "Centerfield" was honored by the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

There WILL NEVER EVER be a better game! The sights, sounds, smells and Summertime! Bunch of men playing a kids game! In the words of Biff Tannon "I've just got one thing to say- God bless America"
The Say Hey Kid has been called up to the show, The Field of Dreams. He'll be watching the Giants game at his old field in Birmingham, AL, from the BEST seat in the House.
I'm an Aussie, Yeah Love the game and love John Fogerty, I will chuck a couple of balls, Hit a couple, and I'm nearly 63 years old. Still got the shit. I am still bullet proof. Try to live were I'm from. If it don't kill ya you get stronger. Put me in coach John I'm ready to play. From Jim.
There is nothing better than a good game of baseball. Anyone can see themselves somewhere in this song, whether it's on the field or in the stands. Baseball brings people together ❤
Sent the video to my dad. I'm 54 his response was our team practice was as classy as the video...when your a kid the players..especially my dad looked awesome. Just like the guys in the video😊

John Fogerty is the best song writer of all time. His music always brings a smile to my face. I'm 25 and I'll play CCR at work and all the old guys jam out.
Grew up 8 blocks from the original Yankee Stadium in the days when the players would still park their cars on the street and throw a couple of bucks to us kids to "keep an eye" on their cars. After the 4th inning we could get in any game because we were familiar to all the ticket takers...Baseball was so Pure and Simple back then...(I'm 62)...when my dad saw this video at my apartment in the mid 1980's he was able to rattle off the names of literally each and every ball player in the video...he laughed so hard that afternoon that it was a real pleasure to me. He was an "All City" left fielder in high school and that was a real achievement considering how many High School athletes are in the NYC public school system. Just after completing his senior year season with another City championship he enlisted in the Marine Corps and fought during the Island Hopping Campaign in the South Pacific. I apologize if my comment is too long...I just needed to share these thoughts...Bless...
No need to apologize. It's great to see other people enjoy great music and honer their dads. I love reading these comments. I'm 68 and enjoyed watching my kids play sports.

I am life-long Cardinals fan and seeing Stan "the Man" Musial is this video and the other Cardinal greats always makes me so thankful my parents brought me up playing baseball and watching baseball. I swear I think the game was so much better in 50's, 60's , 70's and 80's and not so sterile as it is today.
The footage and this song just makes me smile! Used to be a catcher for 7 years before i blew my knees out! Im a pro musician now but i still love the game and John Fogerty rocks!
Every year since 2016 on opening day I watch the Cubs WS dvd & listen to Centerfield. Grew up watchin the Cubs at my great grandma's on a little tv on a TV tray while eating popcorn & I wouldn't trade it for all the big smart tv's & surround sounds in the world.
I love your story! My new tradition starting today is this song and watching the last inning of my beloved Rangers first ever win! I cheered on your Cubs in 2016!
Lost my mom a couple years ago. From her i got my love of baseball and the LA Dodgers. I have the MLB app and this season i watched a game of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. I was teary-eyed as i know shes watching them and happy that they are now a Dodgers affiliate. Hopefully, she was greeted by the big Dodger in the sky and Tommy Lasorda.
WELL, I am 81 and have loved baseball since I was in 5th grade! Always a Brooklyn Dodgers fan until they moved West and I got married here in the East and now I have become a Phillies fan - GO PHILLIES!! LOVE LISTENING TO JOHN SING CENTERFIELD!! Thank you Mr. Fogerty! :)
💕Thanks for the endless love and support you have constantly showed me. I'm forever grateful. I really appreciate your unconditional love towards me, where are you watching from.🌹
I have been looking for this song for about 15 years, based on one memory I had from one baseball game when I was a kid where they played this over the loudspeakers. I didn't even know who John Fogerty was back then, I just knew it was a damn good song. And now I finally found it.
I miss Tiger Stadium! Go Tigers! Sell the team Chris Illitch! Fire Manfred. Ban the DH, pitch clock, extra innings runner, instant replay. I miss Sparky Anderson, Billy Martin, Earl Weaver, Whitey Herzog, Lou Pinella, Don Zimmer. Complete games by pitchers who wanted to go all 9. I miss those things. Old time hardball.
I maintain that this is the greatest Love Song ever written. Covers a multitude of the things we love. Sunshine, new grass, playing games, a chance to shine, the support of our fans. Et. Al. But, the plethora of baseball terms that put a positive and lighthearted spin when applied to romantic Love, is a good, less awkward shorthand.
The power and majesty of a home run... The quick, Helvetian precision of a triple play... The daring thrill of a stolen base... The crisp crack of the bat... The verdant grass of the outfield... Forget soccer. THIS is the Beautiful Game. :)
Seems to me they haven't tampered with Baseball quite as much as they have with some other sports (especially "pro" football) - and to me that's a big part of the game's appeal.
Don't be hating on Soccer (Association Football). I love it and baseball equally. I have a lot of Soccer loving friends who hate baseball just as strongly as you hate soccer and I have to fight them just as hard as I am fighting you now. Open your eyes!
I coach little League softball and introduced this to my girls during practice. These small 7-9yr old girls sing along and now call this their hype song. I remember doing the same thing when I was playing ball. *Go Pink Sox*
My all time motivational song . I'm looking at 70 and I have tears streaming down after reading all the comments posted . If there was one thing that brought us all together , it was sports , just the love of the game . Please keep politics on another playing field .
Well-a, beat the drum and hold the phone, The sun came out today. We're born again, there's new grass on the field. A-roundin' third, and headed for home, It's a brown-eyed handsome man, Anyone can understand the way I feel. () Ooohh -- Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today Look at me, I can be, Centerfield Well, I spent some time in the Mudville Nine Watching it from the bench You know I took some lumps, when the mighty Case struck out So "Say Hey" Willie, tell the Cobb, and Joe DiMaggio Don't say it ain't so You know the time is now Yeah! Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today Look at me, gotta be, Centerfield I got it, I got it! Got a beat-up glove, a home-made bat And a brand new pair of shoes. You know I think it's time to give this game a ride Just to hit the ball, and touch 'em all, a moment in the sun It's-a gone and you can tell that one good-bye Ooohh -- Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today Look at me, gotta be, Centerfield Yeah!
It's "put me in cold" not coach... baseball has managers on the field. Also hard D sound can be dropped to 'col... but noone drops the ch sound in coach.
Something I noticed watching. Despite having been around over 100 years when players celebrate a big win they celebrate the same way. I’m not sure if tradition or what not, but it’s beautiful nonetheless.
My Dad taught me to be quiet while His Tigers were broadcasted by Ernie Harewell, I seen Al Kaline make a shoestring catch to beat the Yankees at home in Aug of 1962. Though Al broke his collarbone : it made me a life long fan ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Baseball is the greatest game ever. I love seeing the old players- I’ve been lucky to meet several of them- mantle, larsen, Aaron, feller, and my neighbor who played for Detroit and Milwaukee/ Atlanta- frank bolling-when the tigers run out he runs to second- ! They are all gone now -
Baseball was a man's game played by real men.Notice when Joe Dimaggio was robbed of a home run he was half way to second base, today they are halfway to first.Still a great game and the best baseball song ever.
Every bit as classic as "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". It evokes all the joys of the great American pastime. And that video, wow! Bravo to John for another work of genius.
I have played, coached and umpired baseball games. In my senior years I still enjoy going to the gandkids games and watching. St Louis has always been a fantastic baseball city.

@@sharonmullins1957 OTOH, they weren’t paid very well.

How could you not be romantic about baseball?
John got his wish he did this song in centerfield of Dodger stadium with this kids he turned 75 today
What a fine American!
I saw him do it at the Oakland -Alameda Coliseum from Center Stage with Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir backing him. It was also one of the first shows where he could play his CCR stuff after winning his lawsuit.

There WILL NEVER EVER be a better game! The sights, sounds, smells and Summertime! Bunch of men playing a kids game! In the words of Biff Tannon "I've just got one thing to say- God bless America"
Saw him sing this live in concert last night here in Charleston. Absolutely amazing for anyone - much less an 80 year old man. God bless you John!

Saw elton john last year..awesome
Took my Vet Son when he first came home from Iraq to see Fogerty. He loved it, hearing Fortunate Son gave us both chills.
The Say Hey Kid has been called up to the show, The Field of Dreams.
He'll be watching the Giants game at his old field in Birmingham, AL, from the BEST seat in the House.
RIP Willie Mays. It looks like he was the last surviving player in this video. They're all playing in heaven now.

This is without a doubt the greatest son John Fogerty has ever written. I love it, Goosebumps every time. 🙏❤
Happy opening day!
John Fogerty's enduring song "Centerfield" yoked himself to the iconic phase "as American as baseball, hot dogs and apple pie." Genius!

John Fogerty is the best song writer of all time. His music always brings a smile to my face. I'm 25 and I'll play CCR at work and all the old guys jam out.
CCR is truly something special.

He sure nails it!
Posting this in memory of one of my earliest role models, the "Say hey" kid, Willie Mays, 1931-2024 💔⚾
I hope Vin was there as well...

Dear baseball fans in 2020 … At least we have great stuff like this.
Mays and Dimaggio were great, almost as good as Bonds
I saw Bonds many times live. But during 2004-11 Albert Pujols was the best player I’ve ever seen.

I have been looking for this song for about 15 years, based on one memory I had from one baseball game when I was a kid where they played this over the loudspeakers. I didn't even know who John Fogerty was back then, I just knew it was a damn good song. And now I finally found it.
When this album was released I listened to it non-stop for weeks. Love and respect.
My last high school baseball game was today, I will miss it dearly❤️⚾️
Soccer is the most boring game in the world (after golf and curling). The midfield play is so dull.
This song is great.
at 3:00, the woman in the white blouse clapping her hands is my Mom.

Good Music Good Memories
Well-a, beat the drum and hold the phone,
The sun came out today.
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home,
It's a brown-eyed handsome man,
Anyone can understand the way I feel.

Ooohh --
Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today
Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today
Look at me, I can be, Centerfield
Well, I spent some time in the Mudville Nine
Watching it from the bench
You know I took some lumps, when the mighty Case struck out
So "Say Hey" Willie, tell the Cobb, and Joe DiMaggio
Don't say it ain't so
You know the time is now
Yeah!
Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today
Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today
Look at me, gotta be, Centerfield
I got it, I got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a home-made bat
And a brand new pair of shoes.
You know I think it's time to give this game a ride
Just to hit the ball, and touch 'em all, a moment in the sun
It's-a gone and you can tell that one good-bye
Ooohh --
Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today
Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today

Why are you posting lyrics? Everyone knows the words to this song. Not needed PLEASE!!!!
NOT everyone obviously knows the words to the song geniuses! Thanks to the guy who posted it some can enjoy it.
Yeah like when a winning run is coming to home plate they all jumping lol
They are all gone now -
There is not a better song that perfectly captures the love of the game. For me, I will always love baseball.
Baseball was a man's game played by real men.Notice when Joe Dimaggio was robbed of a home run he was half way to second base, today they are halfway to first.Still a great game and the best baseball song ever.
