after 25 years my husband and i separated in 2013 due to some of his mental health issues. our teenage kids saw him all the time, would tell me that he was doing better and had been going to therapy. I would say how great that was for him. I was beginning to enjoy my new life...and couldn't picture him back here. well, fast forward to 2016 and it was bitter cold here (Canada) and the people he was staying with were being evicted. he came here for one night only, stayed in my son's room. well...fast forward again to today. we are back together. I am glad we got back together for a lot of reasons. It seemed like our separation brought us closer than ever. and that's a good thing. everyone deserves a second chance.
I believe your reaction is exactly what this song was meant to evoke: reflection on our own lives, forgiveness for those who may have rejected us, and a desire for reconciliation as you urged people to consider at the end of your reaction. Adam Bastien created a heart wrenching masterpiece with this song in the hopes that it can bring healing.
Adam B ( lead singer ) wrote this amazing song. He’s a great addition to the group. Home Free also released The Thanksgiving Song Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
New high tenor Adam Bell-Bastien wrote the song, and he and his husband Jerome Bell-Bastien originally performed it (it’s on their channel Bell Bastien). The song was slightly changed for Home Free to encompass a larger audience, but Adam Bastien wrote it from the view of coming out. Beatboxer Adam Rupp said he kept getting teary eyed trying to record his part. There are three Adams now, so they go by Rupp, Chance and Bastien (bassteen). Home Free released a new Christmas album, the first album with Bastien. He joined the group June 20th and has toured with them since. There are 3 other recent videos with him in it. Thanks for your reaction, and gentle hugs to you.
Such a beautiful song. Loved your bittersweet story. I’m so sorry about your mom and dad but the gestures are wonderful and as the song says we all deserve some grace and love. Adam Bastien (lead singer here) wrote the song. Love it!
Beautiful harmonies, emotional song. Christmas is an emotional time of year. I lost my husband at. Christmas & I wish he could come home. I have a similar story to you. My dad was a bit of a womaniser! My parents divorced when I was 3. But my mum & step dad always invited him for Christmas dinner to be with his 6 children (until he remarried). Thanks for sharing & your reactions 😊
Always enjoy your HF reactions, Chris. This is a tough one for some. Appreciate your sharing your personal and touching story. Am certain there are many who can relate, on some level, to what you and your family experienced. Some months back, Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, had posted that he had struggled to record a song written by Bastien, become emotional. No other clue but assume it was this. Over the years watching AR perform (and behind the scenes), he's always come across as very upbeat, bit goofy, so reading that suggested something that would definitely pull at the heartstrings. Enjoy your Holidays!
A little different line-up , but the usual exquisite harmonies from Home Free ... these guys never fail to please and soothe my soul ! I've already heard Elvis soooo ... the Christmas season is officially here ! Thanks for this beautiful beginning !
Oh Larry, your reaction was so heartfelt. This song rips my heart out. You about did me in. 🎶🥰 The good news is there are some really fun and lighter songs on this new Album. Have you done the Thanksgiving Song? It’s lovely.
I'm sorry this sent you so close to the edge. It was written by Bastien and, sadly, is the story of his family cutting him off after he came out as gay. I've heard it at least 10 times and it still makes me cry. I'm glad that Home Free is putting it out into the world. We need more love and understanding. You will probably never do one of my requests again. Seems like I also sent you over the edge with Go Rest High on That Mountain. Thank you for doing this one. More people need to hear it. Wishing you a happy holiday season. There are several much happier songs on Home Free's new Christmas album, including the title track, Any Kind of Christmas.
I read an interview with him from when Bell Bastien released this song saying he and his parents are okay now, but his sister and her husband won't have anything to do with Jerome, so Adam's choice is to go to family gatherings alone or not go. Just such an awful situation.
Aside from the exemplary lyrics … Adam’s percussions are exquisite ❤❤❤ what a fabulous song … and Larry .. your reaction is priceless 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
The back story is this song is about a person being rejected by their family for their orientation. It is personal for Bastien (Bass_Teen) who wrote this song. He replaced Austen.
There's a line in this that is key the line that says "I'm not the one that changed, being who I'm meant to be, made me a stranger in a house that made me, me". He's gay and that's why he can't go home. He doesn't need forgiveness. He needs acceptance. So, I love your idea of a challenge, but the wrong doing, IMHO is the parent who outcast their child for who they love so hopefully they would open their heart and love their child as their child. It is not for us to judge. By the way, thank you for sharing your story. Very touching and very brave.
I believe this is your first experience with Austin's replacement, Adam Bastien? You were so into the meaning and song I dont even know if it dawned on you that the lineup changed, which is kind of cool.
Knowing this was a true story of Bastien being rejected by family and friends when he “came out” makes me so incredibly sad. I can’t even fathom rejecting my children for their sexual orientation.
I pre ordered this cd and have been listening to it on repeat I love it tho it does bring a tear to my eye. Your story definitely struck a cord with me as I’m sure it did with others. All I can say is let (it) whatever it is go if you can it eases your heart and stops the sadness building. Have a happy holiday whatever you celebrate with everyone you can coz there will come a day when you can’t 🙏🏻xx
Grace, what a profound lesson she showed you.
I love this song and their performance.

Thank you for reacting to this important song.
This was written by Adam Bastien, the one who sang it. A beautiful but sad song. Thanks

Thanks for the story-time. Guess I'll have to ask for some advice soon.
Great reaction!
Have an amazing weekend, love ya! 😊🎅
Knowing this was a true story of Bastien being rejected by family and friends when he “came out” makes me so incredibly sad. I can’t even fathom rejecting my children for their sexual orientation.
In this case, acceptance rather than forgiveness (nothing to forgive), but the song can be interpreted either way.
Adam wrote this collaboration after coming out gay....
