Big business also doesn't pay taxes in Africa. A UNECA report covering the period of 1980 to 2008 established that Africa lost $1.5 trillion in tax through profit shifting, tax evasion, tax avoidance, etc. This is broken down into:
    5% to direct African corruption
    31% criminal activities
    64% corporate crimes
Thanks Pamela for tackling this important topic

I remember in February in Ivory Coast, I returned to the country after several years of absence, there I was arrested by a police officer who checked all the documents and nothing was missing. There, he asks you ''don't you have something for me?'' In short, the kind of story that everyone can tell. At this point you have to decide if you don't want to comply with the offer or if you are going to make it easy on yourself by giving some money.
Anyway, I would like to see an episode one day about solutions to corruption problems. kind of specific solutions to certain problems

Very excellent conversation. Africans need to understand that the reason why corruption is so endemic is because of an entrenched scarcity mindset that pervades the majority of Africans. That scarcity mindset is a lasting legacy of colonialism and in some instances predates it. The point is we need to focus on what structures and institutions nurture and incubate a scarcity mindset....look no further than our education systems, our governance systems and our economic systems. Decolonize all three, and several countries on the continent have certainly done this successfully like Rwanda, Botswana, Seychelles, Mauritius, and corruption will cease to be so debilitating. Most importantly, decolonization starts with the individual African. Stop waiting on some benevolent leader or messiah to come save you.......change your own mindset and choices first and see the impact on the collective.

In order find answers to these questions, an in-depth knowledge of pre-colonial tribal society is required. I would recommend the texts written by early british missionaries, most of those published before 1900 are quite factual and reasonably unbiased. Unfortunately very few, if any, will be found on the internet. Having had access to a fairly large library in my younger years, I had the opportunity to read a number of books on the subject, in order to find answers to the question you raise here, in a nutshell "why does african society have a tendency towards self-destruction?" I formulated a thesis I called 'the zero-sum mindset of tribal society' but in my youthful optimism, firmly believed that this mindset would change rapidly as Africa integrated with the modern world. Today, 50 years later, I have lost that optimism. I see many forces that seek to keep Africa down by subtly promoting the tribal mindset, and sadly most people cannot see their true agenda....

Good morning, I’m African-American I appreciate your insight regarding the topic ,so when you said bribery is apart of Africa culture when did it become so clear to you and can it be stop?

    • @byst8729
      @byst8729 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

@VERYPURPLE Corruption happens in all societies and especially where measures are not in place to minimise it or to hold those caught doing it to account. I believe major corruption in Africa started after the countries started gaining independence from their colonisers, the rush to loot resources and the absence of any effective socialist and tax policies. It then became imbedded in the culture and became so widespread that even a 2 year old today understands the concept.
Can it be stopped? No, but it can be minimised but we have to start by changing people’s current mindset from ‘as long as I and my family are ok, I don’t care about others’ to ‘I need to do what’s best for my community, society as a whole and future generations’.

Land fraud is rampant in my country! twice I have been defrauded buying land. I bought 18 hectares 16years ago only to find out 8 years later that two siblings were both claiming ownership for it meaning that none was legally allowed to sell it when I bought from the sister. The case is still in Court and although I can fam on it I can't sell it until the court case is resolved. ❤ 🇺🇬

A 2016 report had the following as amounts lost to corruption annually in different regions:
    Africa $40 billion equivalent
    European union €990 billion
    United states 1.8 trillion
We know where fighting corruption ought to start. A deliberate campaign has been done in the past to associate corruption with Africa

One big difference is, The EU and the USA can 'afford' their corruption, as they have already built all that they need for their societies to function well. We in Africa on the other are yet to build enough schools, hospitals, transport networks, industries etc to meet our needs. So for Africa to lose 40+billion dollars yearly through corruption and the inevitable inefficiency which follows should not be compared! Corruption and its consequences should be introduced into the school curriculum so that children grow up knowing what to expect when they keep on along such a destructive tract! This may sound funny, but the people who engage in corruption in Africa today are not aware of the consequences of their actions and how it holds the entire continent from moving forward! Where did they ever learn about that? They see it as a 'profitable prank'!

Great content, but I personally think that we are waiting or a new apprising by African youths. We have been sold the colonialism story for too long and now it's old. There is just too much corruption which is preventing African economies from growing.

This issue alone is why the other races succeed and we don't.
I also notice the issue in the Caribbean where we're from, but not as intense as Africa.
To seek understanding, Im curious.. could it be that due to the colonial exploitation we saw imposed on us, we now impose it on one another in the form of predatory kickbacks, land struggles and one wanting the best price and quality for themselves but screws their brother over at every chance?
Like the mantra says: hurt people, hurt people.

I watched your AES content, then came back to watch this content. If you're being paid, I hope it's alot of money. For starter's, it's not a crime to identify which country you are from, it adds some authentic perspective and can allow you to draw some comparison. What the hell is the French Africa, if you mean exploited Francophone Africa who has stolen in the Trillion's since the 1960's, then ok. Every point you present literally destroy's the African capability as if you're trying to convince your audience of something. You're talking in the ERA of the AES young lady, be aware of this, the AES has created a portal for the unapologetic Pan African voices to become embolden. If you're a contrary African Queen who loves to highlight Western talking points for an eventual revelation as to why, African should NOT determine their future, so be it. Moreover, your platform will invite very strong blow back, ok.
