Thank you for sharing your process Michael. I found the video when looking at your website. Very nice work! I am a fairly new woodturner from North Carolina, USA and am fascinated by the jam chuck, wooden chuck jaws for spheres and your marking technique for "4 facets". Did you decide on the diameter of your circles by trial and error and now you have a consistent system or was there originally some math involved based on studying actual petrospheres?

Hi Karl, the spheres are usually 64mm dia. They are marked using a lid from an aerosol can, it was just trial and error to find a suitable one. the jam chuck is just a slightly tapered recess that holds the sphere, again just keep trying until it grips. The jaws are on metal mounting plates made specifically for the four jaw chuck from Axminster Power Tools. There are many different designs of Petrospheres and mine are just an interpretation of the originals.
      regards Michael
