Ohhh this is the official AKUBIS video from Mercedes. Did a ton of these but forgot which side to do first. They forgot to mention if you do both sides, rotate crank 360 degrees to do the other side. This relieves tension on the chain so you can get the new tensioner in. With timing marks up do left side, timing marks down, right side.
And the reason it makes noise on start up is due to oil pressure leaking back into cylinder head, make sure there is a little check valve in the hole in the cylinder head that provides oil to the tensioner. If it's not there get it from the dealer. There are 2 different sizes.
service bulletin said, 40 degrees after TDC of cylinder 1 to replace right side tensioner. Then turn crank 360 degrees (meaning 40 degrees after TDC of cylinder 4) to replace left side tensioner. Am I right? Thanks a lot.
@@john8510 yes, 40 degrees ATDC. There is a mark on the front cover of the engine on top, like it up with the crank pulley line with the 40 next to it. If the marks on the cam adjusters are up, do the left side, cam adjusters marks down, do right side. You can also check with your finger which side has more slack near the tensioner.
@@pouffykinkajou thanks. Just to clarity, there are two adjusters on each side right? for adjusters on the right (passenger side), the mark edges should point down and inward when it's 40 degrees ATDC, correct? for other side, just turn the crank pulley 360 degrees, correct?
Now I have a better understand on how to remove the chain tensioner covers. I need to clean up the old sealer and apply new one since it's leaking a little oil on my M276 DE30. Can I use brake cleaner to clean it with a shop towel?
Save your time, forget the chain tensioners ! Cold start timing rattle noise is caused by the 4x camshafts timing gear adjusters operating without oil pressure (old/thin oil bleeds down quickly from supply conduits). New or old engines have the same genuine Mercedes issue. Easy PREVENTION: 7kMi oil change use thicker oil 10W40 10w50 🤗
Joseph Silberstein that’s exactly what I I understand. Saw the bulletin. E550 4-Matic with the rattle even after startup. Supposedly I need timing chain and tensioners replacement.
My M276 engine still rattles after replacing chain tensioner. Do you have a video on how to replace the check valve? I saw your video on installing check valve but did not see how you remove the old check check valve. I greatly appreciate all your videos. Very helpful to owners.
There are no videos or even text on google on how to change out check valves, found this out the hard way as no video i watched on this job shows a check valve already installed.
Good video. But you don't show the timing marks /sequence for the left hand bank. I have read somewhere that the timing marks are at the top and facing outwards but I'm not sure. Help please.
I did the same work as the video, when finish work and start the engine check engine light showen up!! When I'm diagnosed the car by obd, The result was (Fault code p039300) the position sensor of the exhaust camshaft (cylinder bank 2) has a short circuit to positive!! Any one know what the problem??

A benz tsb says to torque the head to timint cover bolts to 14nm. Where did you get the 5nm spec? Just want to be sure which one before I start

do you also keep 40 degree for doing the left bank?

@G Lasser This!. Underrated comment. Also going up a grade in oil isn't bad for the engine, especially if already at high mileage.
