  • Sometimes you hust stumble upon great opportunity. This time it was like this. I found a grey heron on a sunday trip with my family. And it seems like it was not shy at all. So I took this opportunity to go back with my camera and do some bird photography. I did not think this would turn out to be this great. After a long wait I got the grey heron fishing.
Photographing waterbirds like this its good to lay down low to get that eye level perspective. So in this video I give you some tips and tricks as well on how to photograph this stunning bird.

You were lucky, indeed, grey herons are rather shy. They don't like us close, but they seem not to mind a drone buzzing above. I was able to capture this guy catching and swallowing fish with my Mavic Air 2 from just a couple of meters away. Anyway, your video is awesome! Thanks for sharing, I'll be revisiting your channel 👍

Hi Trond. I love your videos and this one was magical to watch. The story you told with the grey heron hunting, then with the fish in its beak and finally eating it was great. I have a D500 with a 300 PF lens and 1.4 teleconverter. Unfortunately, grey herons are easily spooked where I live in Wales so I have yet to get any photos of one I really like. Your photos are always an inspiration. Thank you 😊

So is this an uncommon bird for you all there? It seems strange to me as a North American. We see Great Blue Herons all the time everywhere, so it seems. And the GBHE is almo t identical to your Gray.

Iiving in Florida blue herons are everywhere and are the most brutal bird I have ever seen,if it moves it eats it,from baby alligators other birds of any species, not my favorite, nothing is spared.
