Huge respect to the Himalayan owner! He's probably the first guy I ever came across who isn't an Enfield fanboy despite owing one and is honest enough to point out his bike's shortcomings.
Coming to the bikes, matching the instant torque delivery right from the word go like an Enfield engine is difficult, but it comes at the cost of top end. I personally would be happy to work the throttle a little bit more and stick with the extra power and extra gear, simply because 99% of the times these bikes will stay on road, not off it

I appreciate Mahindra and Classic Legends for reviving legendary motorcycle brands and pitting it up against RE with worthy opponents. Hopefully, RE will provide better quality upgrades and customer services now that it's no longer the lone wolf of classic motorcycle market. This will also propel Indian classic motorcycles on a global scale, where it has already started gaining respect for its simple self-servicable engines.

Inspite of not having very good quality and unreasonable pricing their bikes used to sell because there were no other options. Now Honda, yezdi also entered the segment. Same here. The bike is a jem. It's good offroad, good in the twisties, rugged, and no nonsense. Drop it, pick it up, ride away... very few things to break.
Easy to do maintenance on with a good online knowledge base.
      And parts are reasonably priced.
Proud to have an Indian company come up with such a product. It's not much bling or pretense, just honest function. Who needs lcd or led anyway? Those are for TVs.
Again, amazing stuff from an Indian company. I see no parallel in recent automotive history. Except maybe the 650 twins, which I haven't tried.

Folks talking about value etc here don't know what they're talking about. There's bags of value in the Himalayan. And that engine.. smooth.. and torquey. The only thing I want to change is to go for a 14t front sprocket as 1st and 2nd are geared a bit high... but even that is ok if ridden on road.

Great stuff! Nice unbiased comparison. As a previous owner of RE Classic 350 2012 (which I waited to buy after years of dreaming to own one) I must tell that 3 things disappointed me.
    1. As pointed out, quality issues - poor wiring, weak rubbers around key joints, rusting
    2. Crazy vibration that would often leave me with a shoulder pain
    3. Most importantly, very indifferent treatment at the service. I wasn't expecting 5 star treatment but definitely not the best. 2-3 days after the service I'd face new problems. Never wanted to take them back to RE service centers. Settled for an olden time mechanic who passionately did the job.
My request is pls post a video on your experience at the service and after it for any bike. That'll be a good takeaway from already good reviews. Thanks!

The engine never gets tired and it always hungry to much more miles , it can go anywhere any type of road without much problem, good seat front inverted type suspension as well as rear mono shock are good , I get decent average of 30 kms in city and 40 on highways.

I hope so but RE always has one trick up this leave last time it was the 650 twins this time it will be the himalayan 450 which is about to launch with more power and more torque. Jawa couldn't touch RE in terms of sales even though it had a more powerful engine, it's just that RE is Fabulous with the product development that other companies have to work really hard to complete them, which is a good thing because RE themselves work very hard.
Let's see if YEZDI with the same engine can do any better.

    • @SG-encrypt
      @SG-encrypt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@shree397 To some extent you are correct but I know eichers in and out, once Upon a time I worked with them when they started thinking of discontinuing bullet. It was the Electra with right brake that gave it a whole new go. The others do not work out as good because of the infrastructure and availability of parts which actually gives the commuter to take the bike anywhere without fearing of getting stranded. If you actually see the quality, they are not even par with anyone. I have ridden old Java and the yezdi 250 which had 3 piston rings. No doubts these machines are more than capable. If these people don't deliver they die.

The rusting that he pointed is the same for all bikes! It is NOT the body rust. Nuts, bolts, and some fittings are made of steel and they WILL rust if not cleaned, treated, and maintained properly. This is true if the bike sits exposed to the elements most of the time. It is the case with all motorcycles, not just Himalayan.

21 inch tubes are hard to come-by. Your best bet is to buy them wherever you find them and keep them spare. You can even use a 19 inch tube, but it should be a original tube, works just fine. A copy would burst instantly.
For those who have been having an issue with Ceat Gripp XL 18 inch or 21 inch, check their load rating. Its 54 for front - MAX 212 kgs.
and 62 for rear - MAX 265 kgs.
MRF front and rear same tyre load rating is 54 and 64 - which means 212 and 280.
Now Himalayan already weighs 200+ kgs. An avg. rider with luggage 80-100 kg, with pillion its over 140 kg.
Now you guys you're already exceeding the limit these tyres are made for, so they will burst.

Good that RE is getting some competition.. all the issues that the Himalayan owner pointed out are legit.. my parts started rusting in less than a year, instrument cluster is getting replaced due to fogging issues and vibration, windshield gets loose and vibrates, and so many other minor issues keep surfacing.. really hope RE pulls up their socks after this or their fans will soon start looking elsewhere

@@azizamean You probably maintained it properly, washed and dried it properly, and kept it under a roof.
The fact is, the rusting that he showed were bolts and other fittings and NOT body rust. Those are mostly made of steel. Anything made of steel will rust if they were to be constantly exposed to the elements.
For example, a knife (made of steel) that is maintained will NOT rust, but if you keep the same out in the open it will start rusting in a couple of weeks.

    • @jarjarbinks3193
      @jarjarbinks3193 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@vimalmathew2679 Once again, if the rusting is NOT in the body, then it is the owner's fault. Bolts are made of steel for strength and they will rust if not cleaned and maintained properly. I am not sure if motorcycles in India use stainless steel or galvanized bolts. When I say maintenance, I mean simple stuff like avoiding constant exposure to water and the sun, and also making sure the bike is wiped clean after exposure to water.

I agree with the rusting as well speedo console where it gets fogging and sweating [work around silica gel which can inserted inside the console to avoid moisture]. To resolve the issue of side mirrors then you can go for Baja Avenger Mirrors which gives you wider rage view but that will not give you an appropriate viewing with stock handle bar. Either you got have an tourer handlebar or Art of Motor cycle handle bar to fix the bajaj mirrors. Stock handle bar on RE is not good or shoulders, i changed it some time back, now i am using RE tourer handlebar and bajaj avenger mirrors which is very comfortable.

RE bs6 has improved a lot but the price they're asking now makes no sense. If the Yezdi wouldn't have come along, I would have gone with the Ktm. I would go with the Yezdi, but would hold off until there are more service centers. Mahindra has been in the two wheelers business for a long time now, no matter what they call their brand now, yet the service network not robust as it should have been. Its similar to Force motors. Bengaluru-Mandya-Mysuru-Madekeri-Mangaluru-Kumta-Honnavara-Murdeshwara-Gokarna-Kudle-Shivamogga-Chikmagalur-Hassan-Mandya.
The second time little different route.
Reason I mentioned names was for reader to imagine all terrains which mainly covers western ghats and coastal line of Karnataka.
Have gone off-road. With round clearance little bit increased.
You feel all the power at you fingers. You juss revv, it will take you.
    Mileage till Mangalore 43-46Kmpl
    Around ghat section 40Kmpl
    In city, 32-35Kmpl.
This is when you are riding considerable distance in top (6th gear).
If you are using RE, you will completely have new experience in JAWA/ Yezdi Motorcycles.
Rusting issue is in every bike. Including JAWA.
JAWA 42 2.1 is an improved version with build quality and with very little increased power/Torque.

Just clocked above 25k and recently bought appollo R6 for himalayan but haven't fitted them on bike. Front tyre is the only one which is going to change after 25k.
One suggestion for adventure touring guys, always keep the last tube of bike at the next tyre change cuz these tyres are rare to find specially front tyre and tube.

I am amazed to see that this kind of rusting problem . It doesn't matter what category a rider is doing or from which company ...
He is a rider, that's the identity, safety is the first priority .Rust - a chemical reaction in which the oxygen combines with the metal at an atomic level, forming a new compound called an oxide. Metal-oxides have weaker bonds than the metal itself, which is why rusty chunks of metal tend to crumble easily relative to the original material.

He was on a ride and had requested RSA (Road Side Assistance). The RSA is a optional and paid service, which is meant for emergencies and breakdowns, and the vehicle needs to be fixed/repaired on priority and in short time.
The rider, who was on a ride (somewhere far away from his hometown), couldn't have ordered the tube on Amazon, right? Where do you think he'd have it delivered, while being stranded on a remote highway? Ordering on Amazon will work when he's at home, right?
And the problem is the monopoly he mentioned about RE and Ceat. Which should never be a problem to the riding community, for a common part like a tube. A company (RE) has a cult following, and portrays itself to be doing so much in the motorcycling community, should not prevent the owner to buy what they want for their bike, and sell them the same item at a higher price (₹250 for the tube, if bought outside, the Authorized service centre charges ₹750 allegedly, which is about ₹500 more than what it should cost) and only at their service centre parts store. I feel it's unethical. It's a really bad experience for the owner, in my opinion.
It's an example of the same problem that the Car service centre guys create, where you need to get the batteries changed of your keyless entry key Fob only from the authorized service centre. The battery is a small CR2032 coin sized cell, available at about ₹50 at local Stationary and electronic shops for cheaper brands and about ₹100-150 for well known brands like Maxell etc. The Service centre charges ₹350 for that. You need to go to the service centre because there's a re-activation button press pattern that you need to key in to activate the key fob to be used normally. And based on their shitty policy, they will not tell the owner what the re-activation pattern is, because money! If you just replace the battery and you don't re-activate it, the key fob will not work at all! The point is, the owner has to put in their time and spend more money that they should.
Now don't get me wrong, REs are great machines with amazing following, but the problem that's mentioned in this video is with the shitty RSA that the owner paid for and the unfriendly customer service because of monopolized parts supply they've caused.

@@BruceLee-go2vy well when I would plan a trip I would order and carry it with me. Hope now you understand who the IDIOT in the house is 😬

@@vikramsinhdantkale8525 good write up and explanations buddy. Agree with the monopoly part of RE where they try to fleece customers.
But my takes are as under - if I am planning a long ride I would also always carry my spares specially tubes knowing the fact that they are not easily available.
As far as service of RE is concerned I also had the same opinion as in the video until the longest solo ride I ever did last year - Golden Quadrilateral which changed my opinion in a positive way for RE interns of service and RSA.

Janab can you share your thoughts on the overall quality of the Yezdi? Do you think cit is better or worse compared to the RE?
