@@donaldcook3112 Mamede ran the 800/1500 double at the 71 Euro champs, set world track 10 k record in 1984, was still running international 5 k in 1990. He was also a member of the Portuguese 4 by 400 team at the Munich Olympic games in 1972.
@@johnstirling6597 Thank you for that informative reply, John. I recall watching the European championships from Helsinki in the summer of ‘71, as a young boy - remember that colossal 10,000ms tussle on the last couple of laps -!?! … was it a ‘one-two’ for Finland?.. I have absolutely no recall of that athlete ‘Mamede’. Nor through the following time span very similar to the great Sir John Walker .

J Walker absolute LEGEND OF ALL TIME
Great to see Walker win at 36 in 1988 😳
Has there ever been a middle distance runner that had a career span longer than John Walker.
Laps value:11 !
Fernando Mamede.
@@johnstirling6597. . . Which event?.. Which decades?.. Must have ran without t.v. cameras?..

This was in the day when they ran on board tracks of varying lengths. Fortunately, the tracks are now a standard 200 meters.
Mr Sub-4 Steve Scott would've beaten John Walker 🏃💯🥇
160 yard Track length
He can’t, he wasn’t there
