I know alot of times when the wrestler goes to scoop the opponent, the slamee will kinda give a little boost to help with the lift, but i just watched "the slam" a few times and there was no assistance there man, Andre couldn't boost his weight at ALL. Hogan scooped him up pretty swiftly and turned him over and released. It wasn't pretty at all, but that's pretty much all he could do😅

It made a great story. Hogan always used the body slam to set up the leg drop, and it was doubtful that he could do it to Andre.
At the start of the match, Hogan was raging at Andre, and it seemed that the slam was a lapse in judgement that cost him the match. Indeed Hogan was never in the match until he gets that slam and ends it.
I have a soft spot for that match, it did such a good job with the ingredients available.

I was 9 when WM3 happened. It was the first PPV I ever saw live. I had 0 doubt Hogan was winning the main event. And I felt that way because it was very clear the torch had been passed years earlier. This wasn't 'solidifying his title' he had been champ for 3 years, literally the entire time I had been aware of the WWF. The WWF cartoon, Hogan was the leader and Andre was one of his sidekicks. It was a huge match, all the hype was behind that thing. And I think it was very important to both their legacies to have that feud as Andre's last real hurrah and making it clear Hogan had no more mountains to climb. But to me, the story is that this ended the time of champs who stayed champ forever. People talk about great champs now, they talk about 16 time, 14 time, etc. Back in the day this Roman Reigns title run wouldn't even be that big a deal historically. Hell, Hogan had been champ longer than Reigns when he faced Andre. There were 2 WWWF champions in the entire 1960's. 7 in the 70's. 6 in the 80's. We go through that in a year sometimes. But after this, they realized that to keep Hogan and the company interesting, they had to have him lose the belt sometimes, even if just to win it back. After he beat Andre, what was really left unless they created guys who could beat him? And so they did and in the 90's we jump to 41 different champions. In recent times, practically anyone can become champion, even if just for a night only to drop it back at Raw the next night.
