Artists make key choices in their careers, and their fans respond, but how they become popular decides a lot of what kind of artist they're limited to be seen as. Lights is Actually incredibly talented in more than one way, and seems like the kind of amazing artist who could become well known throughout the country, and still never become a superficially mainstream celebrity symbol. She's just that awesome.
I sort of half agree with you, quite a few of her songs don't really work for me, but then again it's not really my genre, so I can see where you're coming from... but there are quite a few that are just so beautifully put together, and with a great voice like hers, that I can still appreciate it, even though it's not exactly my cup of tea.
