Canadian here, the symbolism of the flag is 100% wrong. White and red are traditional colours of France and England, respectively. Canada was never "neutral". Until the Statute of Westminster in 1936, Canada was automatically at war with whomever UK was at war.
Its precisely for that reason why Canada waited several days to declare war against Hitler, following Britain's declaration. It was symbolic of Canada's political independence from England.

And if anything it is the combined power of many nations that would step in from the UN if we were invaded. We fought hard in that war while you American’s didn’t even join the fight of the war until the Japanese bombed the base at Pearl Harbor. Another thing is that most Canadian’s remember all 50+ states while most Americans can’t even remember the 10 provinces and 3 territories. Might i add that America almost started WW3 while Canada hasn’t even started any war.
