This wasn’t considered a major tour. Jimmy was used to being on the biggest stages and playing smaller arenas probably wasn’t as satisfying. Coverdale was a step towards bigger things and then of course once he was back with Plant he was back where he belonged.

@@Taylor.Dude. Grunge didn't hurt Page, or Plant, but Grunge hurt rock bands that hadn't achieved legendary status. Yes, those crappy hair bands like Poison and Kix needed to go, fast, and Grunge did that quite quickly and lethally. But Grunge gave the coup de grace to good rock music (bands like Living Colour, King's X, etc) in 94/95. By 98, Grunge killed itself with a redundant sound ... which gave way to something worse: Kid Rock. 🤣

Only Jimmy Page can play like Jimmy Page. Unique and I can't think of any other guitarist including Hendrix who sounded more otherworldly... there is something of either Heaven or Hell or inhuman in his playing... or wait.. no no no there is something of a very sensitive artist in his playing... either ways, Jimmy Page can build the ultimate atmosphere!!!!!!!!! ❤️

    • @sc0or

Hendrix had to play for both solo and rhythm. He's from another league.

@@sc0or I love Hendrix! Hendrix was probably more gifted and he was another one who was able to create otherworldly ambience!

Sounds like maybe they just plugged into the house feed . Sometimes radio stations would do that just plug into the board and tap into to the PA feed which can result in an unbalanced mix in the recording the balance does change quite alot after the couple of numbers and the guitar becomes alot more forward in the mix and the drums don't sound as buried. Which leads me to believe that maybe they just taped the house feed

Personally, I think Jimmy Page has sounded sloppy and uninspired for a long time. Don't know if it is because of drugs and alcohol. But he hasn't really done much since Zep. And when I do hear him, it sounds nothing like him at the top of his powers. I wasn't too impressed with his playing on Celebration Day. Listen to Blackmore and Iommi. They play today with as much passion and creativity as they did 45 years ago. They changed and evolved. Page always seemed to be more of a visionary of sound. He is/was a master of that. But he hasn't really done much since 1980. Look at Jeff Beck! The same age and he's on fire. He's freakin' 70!

I know what you mean, I just disagree. Sloppy, yes (he always has been though). But that isn't what matters. He plays with passion first, technique second. I am not a guitarist but a painter, and I see Jimmy as an Impressionist. If you look at some Impressionist paintings you will see what I mean. Jimmy has always used dabs of various hues in his playing, connecting them with his harmonious phrasing. No one else plays quite this way (you can hear it as far back as I Can't Quit You on Zep I). Give Over The Hills from this '88 show another chance and really listen to that solo - it begins with low tones but opens up with amazing use of colors and nuances of tone. Yes, Page is more a "visionary of sound". Well said. He was going to become a painter back in the 60s before he became a session musician and he has often said that this was an influence on his guitar playing. Zep's music (ie. The Song Remains The Same from Houses of the Holy) has so many layers, and if you listen to Page live (even in this show) you can hear how he goes for that with only the use of one guitar. He said he specializes in harmonics. Not to harp on this art stuff, but at times he even seems Expressionistic (see some paintings on Google to see what I mean). Jimmy is unbelievably versed in all kinds of music and art. No other guitarist hit on so many different styles. Actually, I should say that Impressionism is but one of Jimmy's styles. You have to see what he is trying to bring to each song. Btw, I love Beck. He is absolutely brilliant.

Wow, Pages playing was very good in 1988. I wouldnt have guessed he had such good tone, speed and phrasing. What guitars he use in that period? Les Paul, as in picture I guess

His main guitar during this period was his 1970 red les Paul deluxe which was modded for humbuckers and had a B bender unit and it had Seymour Duncan pickups that are wound hotter then what he has in his other les pauls . He did not use his 1959 led Paul which was his number 1 during led zeppelin very much during this tour. Some shows he would play part of dazed and confused and he would use his 59 but he also had a second 59 that he would use on occasion but in the late 80s and early 90s the converted red les Paul deluxe was his main guitar. It was also his main guitar on the tour he did with coverdale in Japan. It's got a more raw heavier fatter sound them his 2 59 les pauls. I have w set of those Duncan pickups and they are alot more aggressive then any vintage gibson pup . He also used his vintage Danelectro guitar on this tour for midnight moonlight and in my time of dying

John Miles sounded a lot like David Coverdale back in the day.
But the "Prelude" is incorrectly credited as Page. It's Chopin.
