@@miabinns1657 there's blacklights in the ride and glasses that you wear inside that make it look better/more 3D. The camera only makes it look a lot worse than it is.
This seems like this should be themed as something else but somebody just loved Garfield so much and this was the only place in the park to put him. What was this originally? mining boat ride?
looking back at this footage literally ALL of the animated props except for the fish were broken. there’s supposed to be a good other bit of props moving, but they were all broken in this video
For those wondering why it has an unintentional creep factor- this ride replaced a truly frightening dark ride called the Old Mill, it was a local favorite and unfortunately was replaced by this. The Old Mill was filled with tons and tons of real physical props and a lot of them went to this new trackless ride called Ghostwood manor (it's alright). So to say people were upset by this new ride's decision to go with blacklight cardboard was an understatement, and it's still one if not the most hated ride at Kennywood. The only reason I can imagine it's still around is because Paws Inc. probably pays a percentage for operation costs
sadly ,near the end of "garfields" run in the old mill the moving mechanisms had mostly stopped working...they just kept renewing the licensing for it....
This is my least favorite ride at kennywood. 2 years ago I brought my girlfriend here and I thought it would be a cute scary ride but actually it was just boring as heck lol
I like how at the top of the lift hill you said “what the fuck” because that’s exactly what I said 😂 This is the weirdest dark ride I’ve ever seen but I know if I ever went on it, I’d love it haha! I wonder what the old mill ride was like 🤔 I’ll have to look it up!
I was not expecting that.... The other thing that I didn't film was that they gave you weird filtered glasses that kinda made everything look 3D. I wouldn't say it improved the ride at all.
This is quite possibly the worst ride ever made period, if you think most dark rides outside Disney/Universal are bad, then you haven't seen this atrocity yet. This ride makes Stitch's Great Escape look awesome in comparison.
The old mill or hard headed heralds horrendously humorous haunted hideaway. "that was it's original name. seriously, I can't make the shit up" was outdated and needed an upgrade. Unfortunately Garfield was the choice because that bought the licensing. the pizza box use to open and close. they really need to do something with that ride but as long as they have the licensing agreement it won't happen.
At 1:45 mark looks like a scene from a cop show when they use a black light to highlight all the ejaculate in the room, just can't figure out what got anyone so excited about the ride that they'd do that though.
joyce W I knew he does the voice for Garfield but I wasnt sure if he did the voice for the Garfield ride, but thanks for the reply, I've been waiting for somebody to answer
I wish that yinz could have ridden this when it was “the old mill”. Garfield’s nightmare is the worst. Even when everything was working in the ride (which it seems like nothing is anymore...) it sucked.
That was unintentionally creepy, feels like an abandoned ride that started working.
I agree!
It's not supposed to be creepy? It's called Garfield's Nightmare.
That's because this dark ride is actually over a century old, it's just been reskinned a few times throughout the year.
I can’t help but think that photo-op section was a missed opportunity for one hell of a jumpscare...
It certainly gives you a new appreciation for Disney dark rides. Even ones like Pooh.
Oh, absolutely. I can't think of any Disney ride quite this shitty, although I've heard Superstar Limo was pretty awful.
The Dark Side of Disney Journey into imagination with figment is not good at all.
At the beginning of the ride:
PRODUCT PLACEMENT! YAAAAAAA!
It returns in 2019 to 2023
May I use this footage in a video I'm making about the worst dark rides ever? I will give your channel full credit.
Yeah, absolutely.
2:09 the ice-cream truck should move
This could have been much better. Still, I give HUGE props to the artists that painted all those trippy florescent characters.
@@miabinns1657 there's blacklights in the ride and glasses that you wear inside that make it look better/more 3D. The camera only makes it look a lot worse than it is.
@@erirobison7859 Not that it was ever GOOD to begin with.
They are finally doing a refurb back to the Old Mill
This seems like this should be themed as something else but somebody just loved Garfield so much and this was the only place in the park to put him. What was this originally? mining boat ride?
It was an Old Mill ride, which from all accounts was much, much better than this version.
The Dark Side of Disney it was far better! Whoever did this was a fucking idiot
It had a haunted house feel, you could see passing boats at different points and didn't cause headaches or nausea from the paint.
cutting edge for 1977...
looking back at this footage literally ALL of the animated props except for the fish were broken. there’s supposed to be a good other bit of props moving, but they were all broken in this video
Love that DSOD theme song
Thanks, Rob! The full version is on TH-cam somewhere - lots of weird guitar stuff in it.
I used to love the cheesiness of this ride when I was a kid. gosh the early 2000's were fun
This was........oddly frightening.

Well that's unfortunate! Yeah, I can definitely understand why people were pissed.
Most of the effects don’t even work there anymore
Yeah, I didn't even know there were supposed to be effects!
they've clearly forgotten to paint some of the eyes on panels, and just don't care
Yeah, it's a bit of a mess all around.
"desperation? loneliness?" yeah I think that sums it up lmao
Missed opportunity for this ride. They never had a part in the ride where Nermal the Kitten could get his revenge on Garfield.
sadly ,near the end of "garfields" run in the old mill the moving mechanisms had mostly stopped working...they just kept renewing the licensing for it....
"Was there a plot?", Thanks for riding so I didn't have to.
This is my least favorite ride at kennywood. 2 years ago I brought my girlfriend here and I thought it would be a cute scary ride but actually it was just boring as heck lol
I didn't hate it, but it definitely wasn't my favorite ride there. I liked the weird indoor mouse coaster, and of course Noah's Ark.

Goodbye Garfield’s Nightmare. Cat Stew, Yum Yum!
Well....that was....interesting.
What are Garfield's Lines
What in technicolor hell was this? haha
So this ride takes you into Garfield’s worst nightmares
Pepsi
Scary
I love the pic of Draven in the intro
Yep, it's a classic. Probably 75% of the reason the book sold so well was because of that cover.
Whose idea was it to travel by comic panels from right to left when you read them left to right?
Anyone have any idea what kind / brand of ultraviolet paint was used to create the luminescent effect?
I went on this last month and I got stuck in it with my siblings rip but it kept going afterwards
I would not enjoy getting stuck on this ride!
The Dark Side of Disney yep and I heard this monster saying the same thing over and over again!
Okay?.........but Im sure its Scary if your Lactose intolerant!!!.....or Awake during the ride.
So who else is watching this because of Defunctland's twitter?
Can't wait to see the video Kevin does about this ride!
That looks like an awesome little boat ride, damn I think ide drop some acid before riding this, it looks pretty cool.
I think I'd have a really bad trip!
this rules

Yeah... you have my sympathies. It is definitely not a good ride by any standards.
Well our home park is in trouble. Cutting costs on food, a broken coaster and one that will probably not open this year, or not work at all.
Hey bro, what ever happened to your dji drone? Did they end up replacing it?
Nope. They wouldn't work with me at all. Ended up selling all of the accessories. Never buying anything from DJI again.
"There's something weird about that Ice cream truck..."
worst decision kennywood ever made was creating this ride. I'm a local and trust me when I say this we all hate this ride.
Interesting. There has to be some backstory as to why they made such an awful decision.
Well that's depressing. Yeah, as far as I can remember, nothing moved on the ride. It was all totally stagnant scenes.
I'm a local and I didn't even realize this was still open! Must have blocked it out.
It went from the Old Mill that was at least something you rode once each visit to Garfield that just gets ignored.
At 1:45 mark looks like a scene from a cop show when they use a black light to highlight all the ejaculate in the room, just can't figure out what got anyone so excited about the ride that they'd do that though.
HA!!!
Did Bill Murray do the voice for Garfield?
TheDizizope yes

Yeah, I think I would have liked the Old Mill much, much better. Sucks that they changed it for the worse.
Oh god. I hate this ride. The Old Mill was classic awesomeness and now it’s just weirdly horrible.
Yeah, I wish I'd been able to ride The Old Mill. Looks like it was pretty amazing.
Guess what guys! They're redoing the ride to the old theme

Idk how I rode this as a 5 year old

Still better than Spaceship Earth @ Epcot.
Garfield deserves better than this.
7 minute of hell
Now that's the scariest ride I think u ever went on :) That was 10x more weird then some of the European rides u have done.
Yeah, I agree. Very, very creepy.
One of the most boring rides in the history of amusement parks I would say
some of y’all were gay in this ride.
happy pride month just remember garfield knows of your sins
They forgot about the rasins
