    I'm not black but I am doing something similar. I used to straighten my hair, dye it blonde, and cover my grays. It's been almost 6 years since I did anything to alter the texture or color of my hair. It's now a wavy, frizzy mess, mixed with black & gray strands..... and I love it. It's pure freedom. I always get ugly comments from everyone, "so many grays".... "unkempt"... "witchy"... "too dark"... "makes you look old".. and so on. They see natural as ugly. They don't know that they've been brainwashed to believe that you can only be beautiful if only you are fake. This is the way God made me, and this is the way I'm gonna stay.

    That title right there is precisely why I don't wear false hair, or put chemicals in my hair anymore. My profile picture is my real natural hair that grew out of my scalp / body. I love myself, and I love my natural hair and I will not be fooled anymore into buying other people's hair, or altering the texture of my hair with chemicals. My hair is medium length and not down my back, but it is healthy and I know how to take care of it properly. Nothing beats the feeling of touching my own hair, and I never have to take it off...

      I see many “4c” people wearing wash and gos and their hair looks nothing like an ‘Afro’ when it’s done correctly. Coily hair is naturally dry and needs to be moisturized. So it’s simple, moisturize it.
      Gel and water are our hair’s best friends. No need to put on fake hair when you already have beautiful natural hair.

    • @JoJo_dazia
      @JoJo_dazia ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t be needed for “convenience” if we accepted our natural hair. When people go natural, they go overboard trying to “tame” it. If natural natural hair was acceptable it wouldn’t be the need for it

    While I agree with you about how we should stop relaxing hair, I disagree with you about the weave. My stylists cornrow my natural hair under my weave and wigs and not only is weave more convenient, but my natural hair length retention has improved tremendously since starting weave. Also, in the West long, straighter hair is the most accepted. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s the truth.

    • @999yemy
      @999yemy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It’s only the most accepted to YOU, I’ve gotten plenty of jobs with my own hair it’s all in your head. Do your make up nice and wear protective styles if you want but the world is not over when you dont wear a weave.

    I have hair loss. I believe it's genetic. My mother and sibling also have hair loss but we all have completely different hair practices. My genetics:
    1. Low vitamin D from living somewhere with little to no sunlight.
    2. I'm a thalassemia carrier. Low iron and abnormal blood cells.
    3. I have neurodivergent stress...I was recently diagnosed with autism at age 42....I've spent most of my life going against everything that an autistic person needs....hence the stress-induced hair loss. possibly CCCA.
    I have a friend who relaxes her hair because she had a severe back injury and she can't raise her hands to detangle and style her thick natural hair without severe pain. I would not rebuke her for having a relaxer.
    I rotate my style with my afro, wigs, hair pieces, clip ins, and kinky/marley twists extensions. but mostly I have my hair in a satin scarf to protect it and my scalp from the wind, rain, sun, cold airconditioning, dryness and heating. My scalp is too sensitive for relaxer now.
    I think most people are doing the best that they can with the skills, knowledge and resources that they have. A lot of women just cut all their hair off because they are tired of the judgement. I cut half my off last year into a Fro-hawk and dyed/bleached it... It was the most free I had been in 26 years with my hair. Even then I was judged when someone asked if I was a lesbian because I had a tapered fade. Smh.
    Black women in white-majority countries I swear are the most stressed. I think black women in black-majority countries have way less stress. I was raised in a black-majority country and no one complained about anyone's hairstyle regularly. I went to school in the 90s with black women/girls with shaved bald heads and women with waist-length hair. Relaxers, curly perms, weaves, hair pieces, braid extensions, locs, cornrows, Celie braids, twists and afros of all sizes. The only thing was not wigs because we view wigs as for old women whose hair didn't grow or who lost their hair from illness/ menopause.

    People should do what they want to do and be comfortable with what how they want to live their lives. It’s up to the individual person, and they should not let people tell them what they should do or feel about anything when it comes to how they want to wear their hair, unless they are open to suggestions. If you want to wear your natural hair out; cool! If you, as your own person don’t care for the textured look and want to wear weaves and wigs; cool! If you want to wear a combination of both; cool! Lots of people enjoy either of these options, cause wha? It’s their own hair and if they are not doing anything and is of any detriment to themselves, more power to them!
