The historic city of Lahore will be the hub of six days of entertaining activities as the First International PACES (Physical Agility and Combat Efficiency System) Competition hosted by the Pakistan Army goes into action at a graceful opening ceremony at the Ayub Stadium Cantt here on Tuesday.
Addressing a crowded press conference here on Monday, ISPR Director Brig Anwaar Ahmed along with Brig (Retd) Mohammad Yousaf Baig, the pioneer of PACES concepts and the event director, said that all participating teams have reached the city and will display their talent in the categories of Push Ups, Sit Ups, Chin Ups and Combat Efficiency Test at three different venues.
Brig Anwaar said that to generate public interest the Pakistan Army would organise a Mini Marathon on the last day of the event on October 23. Athletes from all age groups and genders will participate in the marathon.
On the occasion Director PACES Event Brig (Retd) Yousaf informed the media that PACES, a new regime of physical training, was introduced in the Pakistan Army in 2010 and during these six years it has contributed marvelously to enhancing physical fitness, combat efficiency, competitive spirit and sports culture among all ranks of the Army.
He disclosed that until now about 3.5 million soldiers have gone through the regime of PACES training and Pakistan Army has organised nine championships.
The war on terror has brought about a paradigm shift in the tactical concept and has changed the requirement of physical fitness for soldiers.
The PACES event will help in enhancing the composite strength agility and coordination between mind and body of our soldiers, Brig Yousaf added.
Army contingents of Nepal, the United Kingdom and Kazakhstan arrived on Sunday to participate in the PACES Championship 2016. Army teams from Sri Lanka, People’s Liberation Army (China), Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Bahrain and Maldives have also reached the city.u
Army teams from Australia, the United States, Turkey, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Turkey arrived on Monday.
Around 370 army men of the participating teams will demonstrate their stamina, physical fitness and combat skill during the six-day event.
Brig Anwaar recalled that before embarking on England tour Pakistan cricket team went to an army boot camp in Abbottabad to improve their fitness, where the players underwent sessions of strenuous training to improve their physical fitness.

Joke of the century......I have a narrative - as a Pakistani citizen, ethnic Kashmiri who has LIVED in Balochistan Province (for over 4 years). Baloch are proud Pakistanis. There is no ongoing army operation in Balochistan, the FC (para mil) and Baloch Levies and civilian LEAs are in charge of law & order there. Out of 28 districts in Balochistan only 2 have presence of RAW-funded RATS like BLA, BRA, BSO etc. Meanwhile in indian occupied Kashmir pellet guns and live ammo are fired at civilians, draconian laws like AFSPA are in place for decades, the people want freedom from india....it's no wonder that Khurram Parvez and others like him were banned by the coward indian govt. from going to Geneva to shed light on the situation. indias face is blackened and the world is witness to indian-backed atrocities (read GENOCIDE) in Kashmir. india staged the Uri attack to try to win some sympathy from the UNGA, and guess what? The plan didnt work!

Balochistan has not always been a land of Baloch. Baloch have originally migrated from regions near Caspian Sea into the area now known as Balochistan. The Brohis are the real inhabitants but Baloch are not. Before the establishment of Khanate of Kalat the region had been swapping hands between Persian and Indian empires. During the Khanate of Kalat period (1666-1839) on some occasions Balochistan had been suzerain of Afghanistan and Iran. Naseer Khan Noori was able to have his independent status recognised but even he had to subjugate and conquer the areas of Makran Lasbela Kharan etc to enforce his authority over them which obviously left a bitter memories for the rulers of those principalities which dragged on until 1948.
Before harping on about "Balochistan forcefully annexed" we need to take a look at true history rather than taking nationalist mythologies as a word of the Bible. Balochistan consisted of 5 regions. British Balochistan acceded to Pakistan on 30 June 1947 (45 days before the transfer of power ). Kharan, Lasbela and Makran acceded to Pakistan on 18th March 1948 (9 days before 27th Mar ). Kalat wanted to remain Independent and Mir Ahmed Yar Khan had an ambition to be the king of all Balochistan. However in 4th Aug 1947 (10 days before transfer of power)agreement where Kalat had its independence recognised in point.1 but the point no.4 of the same agreement states that Pakistan as a successor state will inherit all the treaties Kalat had with the British. That meant maintaining the status quo and Kalat's foreign policy was in our control right from 14th August 1947. I think this information is important to use against those Baloch separatists who harp on about illegal occupation of Balochistan on 27th Mar 1948.
I've read those details in Martin Axmann's book BACK TO THE FUTURE (Khanate of Kalat and genesis of Baloch nationalism 1915-55).
