The last three untitled tracks are my favorites from him period. It was the last three songs recorded before his first exit from the Chili's. #13 recorded a week before his friend from his days at the guitar institute pre-1988, Robert Hayes, died in a car accident in Alabama, which was the final nail in the coffin regarding his status in the band and as motivation/validation for being a junkie, since he'd only used sporadically since June of '91. "Running Away Into You" was recorded a month after he quit and it sticks out like a sore thumb when compared to the majority of songs primarily recorded under the influence of shrooms, weed, and white wine.

I do enjoy Graceland driving across South Africa about once a year. It's a weird combination of the American music I grew up on and the pop music of my country which was always around in the background. I use my old man's Toyota 4x4 for the trip, and it's from like, 2007 or something - no bluetooth or aux in. Got one of those bluetooth to radio-frequency things powered from the cigarette lighter outlet and it works an absolute treat.

Sammy, bro, my heart filled with joy when you mentioned Frusciante but that album has nothing to do with despair and addiction. It's all about surrealism inspired by Marcel Duchamp and John said it himself that besides Running Away Into You all of the tracks were recorded while high on weed. Only weed, Untitled 12 being the last one recorded is closer to confusion, John said it himself it's "the thoughts of a person whose head is about to explode". Smile From The Streets You Hold is on another level

2:00 I knew the answer to this instantly: Fugazi by Marillion. Three killer tracks right off the bat, followed by 4 cluttered semi-suites that seem to go nowhere. If the album were an EP of 3-4 tracks, i.e. Assassing, Punch and Judy, Jigsaw and maybe She Chameleon (saved by the gothic aesthetic and the sweet keys solo), it would be an almost flawless listen from start to finish.

I'm grateful that I have basically unlimited access to virtually all recorded music commercially available growing up. But I can't help but think that, I'm trivialising a lot of them. I know hundreds and hundreds of bands, and thousands and thousands of albums, but I have a strong connection to only a fraction.
Whereas, someone like Sammy, may have not garnered that much at my age now(19). But for the few that he had, he definitely has a connection, and could give a 2000 word essay about it. And the most I could say about 90% of the albums and bands I've listened to is , "cool album, cool band", even though I've exhausted their discography.
The connections with other people around music itself is different. Exchanging CD mixes and exchanging playlists aren't the same, even though inherently they are. The physicality of a CD trumps a virtual set of codes of a Spotify playlist. Or recommendations: say you're hanging out with friends, and they start talking about this album that you've never heard of, and after you got home, you keep thinking about that album that your friends are talking about. 20 years ago, you have to either borrow a CD of it, or buy it. Either way, it takes effort, and the listening experience will be much more satisfying. Now, you can just type it in YT's search bar, and there it is, all in it's 126kbps glory. And the listening experience is gone. Because you've trivialised it.
Of course it doesn't happen all the time, but it happens often. A friends recommendation alone can alleviate that trivialisation. Then again, you don't get that many these days do you.
I have a handful of bands and albums that are near and dear, and again, I'll love them to death, but, I think it will only stay that many. A handful.
Thanks for this insightful, and introspective video Sammy.

I've always called the White Album the hit and miss album tbh. As much as I love it, it really does switch between "I'll listen to this song I guess cause it's on" and "this might be one of the best Beatles songs ever recorded" very quickly and frequently

Very interesting to think about my own answers to these questions.
Just for fun, I'm going to go back and watch again and post them here
    1:07
    Back In Black
    1:58
Judas Priest Juggulator. I enjoy roughly half of those songs. And they're the only Priest tunes that I like. For whatever reason, I just can't get into Priest.
    2:31
    Alter Bridge The Last Hero
    3:30
    Hmm. None
    4:20 (Got a minute?)
The Beach Boys Little Deuce Coupe
    5:32
Pet Sounds kinda but I knew what to expect so not really
    6:06
    Really, bro?
    6:18
CREED Weathered. Prior to that, I didn't like anything that wasn't The Beach Boys. Mark Tremonti inspired me to start playing. He still influences my thought process. I still compare myself to him even though he's a metal guy and I'm a Blues Rock guy. I could go on forever but I'll stop here. Seriously, Mark Fucking Tremonti, everybody. The man didn't win the Guitar World Guitarist Of The Decade award for nothing.
    6:44
Joe Satriani's entire catalog because I discovered him while I was going through the most difficult month of my military career.
I say month but, it lasted about 6 lifetimes.
    7:26
I own an original 1963 or 1964 pressing of The Beach Boys Little Deuce Coupe on vinyl. I also own their 1974 Live In Concert double vinyl which is only significant in that Carl Wilson's guitar tone coupled with a picture of him inside the gatefold looking cool as fuck was what made me want to learn guitar.
    7:55
My dad gave me The Beach Boys Spirit Of America on vinyl. It was a double vinyl and I only had one disc which had sides 1 & 4 on it
    8:30
    Not counting duplicates? Maybe 30?
    8:58
Either Pet Sounds or Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) I still enjoy both albums but they're very difficult to listen to. And then pretty much everything after PS is crap.
    9:15
Every Beach Boys album before Pet Sounds. *Seriously,* they had other albums in their career. I'm not kidding. You can buy them.
Also, the first 3 CREED records. Especially Weathered.
    10:00
Most fans would say Powerage. My argument is that so many people choose it that it can't be underrated.
I'm going to go with Flick Of The Switch and Fly On The Wall.
The only two albums produced by Angus and Malcolm. Great songs. All killer, no filler. True to form. However, there are some really stand out tracks on each of these records and I'm here to tell you that you're not a real fan of you don't love these albums.
    11:01
Almost Alter Bridge ABIII but I still don't love it.
True to form, producer/mixer Michael "Elvis" Baskette just completely shit the fucking bed on this one. It's the worst sounding thing any of those guys have done in their careers.
Excessive overuse of too much compression, muddy as fuck, bass guitar is nonexistent, and Myles' guitars are all but buried under Mark's.
I was the only person in line when it came out, I listened to it once, decided that I didn't get it, and put it away. It's only been the last year and a half that I've listened to some of it on Spotify and realized there's some pretty solid work in there. But I still can't listen to the entire thing in one go. I don't think I'll ever be able to just because of Elvis' shitty production and mixing
    12:18
    Little Deuce Coupe
    I'm a gear head
    12:37
AC⚡DC mixed with a little bit of Black Label Society
    13:17
CREED Human Clay has Higher but it also has Wrong Way which I just can't stand
No wait...Weathered has My Sacrifice but also Lullaby
    13:35
    Back In Black
    13:45
Little Deuce Coupe. I've had 4 copies and currently own 2
    14:06
    ABIII
    16:07
    Blow Up Your Video
    16:15
Many will disagree but Alter Bridge One Day Remains
It was the first thing Mark did outside of CREED and it came at a time in my life when I was really beginning to discover not only what lead guitar is but also what I do and do not enjoy. Mark's playing just sounded so free. I never knew but he was really heavily restricted by the mould of CREED so I had no idea what he was really capable of. The first time I heard that record, I had to keep checking for guest appearances.
    16:53
    ABIII
    17:43
Little Deuce Coupe. As a gear head, there was about 15 years where that album was my only connection to the automotive world
    18:38
Black Label Society has the only two breakup songs you'll ever need
Stillborn and Spoke In The Wheel
That was fun. Even though literally nobody asked me

@@eloC311 I grew up in the garage with my dad. Out of everything he played, The Beach Boys Stuck
We moved to a new house and got expanded basic cable in 1999 and then a couple years later, I was flipping channels and saw this guy playing electric guitar standing in waist deep water. I was maybe 13 and had no idea about music videos. All I knew was that this guy was going to get electrocuted which would be awesome to watch.
It was Mark Tremonti in the video for My Sacrifice and it turned out to be a really cool song. I checked out more of their music and loved it.
Then came Alter Bridge, AC⚡DC, early GnR, SRV, Satriani, PanterA, BLS, HELLYEAH, THC, etc etc etc
Musically speaking, CREED changed my life

It's interesting to me because I also like the Beach Boys, but have very different opinions on their discography. For me, their best phase STARTS with Pet Sounds and ends around Surf's Up (although I must admit I only got into them less than two years ago and still have many of their albums left to check out). But to each his own. We can agree that they made some great music!

Love to see Chemical City getting some love. I remember Bridge to Nowhere being in the radio every day when I first moved to Alberta from BC at 9 years old and I associate it with a lot of formative memories. With a Bullet is a great song too.

Considering Jeff Lynne is my biggest musical hero it would be amazing to sit there and try to help write music with. Him and Tom Petty did wonderful things together, and I feel so fortunate to have gotten a chance to see them both in concert.

There's a very credible theory that the Robert Johnson songs were considerably sped up. For example, when slowed down the vibrato in vocals and guitar are impressive but not physically impossible.

Sammy G, I'm fascinated by the fact that the only box set you seem to have there is Coltrane's Fearless Leader, i.e. his sessions for Prestige, generally acknowledged as his least well-known and least acclaimed music as leader.

Oh, buddy. My first girlfriend and her mom took me to see the Graceland show. It was even better than you'd imagine -- the only song from the album he didn't do was the one with Clifton Chenier. That was because he had all the other musicians with him. And he gave each of them a good twenty minutes to do their own thing -- Ladysmith Black Mombazo and the whole lot of them. Then he sat down on a stool with an acoustic and did all my favorite Simon and Garfunkle songs. (He MURDERED The Boxer.) I've had a couple of decent live music experiences. This was right up there.
