  • In this Signal Colors: Primer - I 'm taking a look at the Chase Bliss x Goodhertz Lossy - an inspired pedal with aims to transport your sound to the glory days of the early internet. Dirty MP3 and glitchy video compression sounds are in arms reach w/ this one. Hang out while I pair it up with the Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field to see how it sounds.

Thanks for this thorough demo , now I know what I can do with mine because I hate reading manuals haha!

Haha I hear you! It's more fun to just dive in anyway, though if you must read a manual, at least Chase Bliss field guides are looking pretty sweet these days! 😎

Maybe its a just a generational thing, but i cant stand the sound of bad mp3's and digital dropouts. But you made me see the merits for a pedal like this, though id much rather have had a hardware version theil color compressor

Haha I hear you, I'm in my late 30's - latest possible haha - and lived through tons of trash mp3 downloads myself, but I also happen to be a fan of glitchy weird sounds too. I think when it happens to something you want clean, it's super frustrating, but used intentionally as an effect, maybe on one element of a track, perhaps even sampled so the effect is controlled/repeatable - I def think it has value. The filter alone is actually kinda nice, and if anything this one is just fun. I'm glad you're coming around to it, though I totally get it's not for everyone, and honestly time will tell how much I use it myself. Also, yeah totally, their compressor would be cool to see - maybe CB continues this partnership?? Who knows! Thanks for the comment and for checking out the vid!

@@Duskmos man, your replies are always so thoughtful, it was a treat to read through those last night when I found your channel. Which btw your videos helped me find a niche within audio processing that I was almost certain what I was almost certain didn't exist except for the Analog Heat, but OTO Boum and Bebe have me so excited for the future of mixers. I originally started on the hunt for something like these tone boxes (?) when wanting to get some of that gorgeous Roland SP series isolator/vinyl sim kind of fat, super analog yet still modern tone, but didn't want to drop $3-400 dollars for the compressor on an outdated sampler. My search for an alternative was long it finally led me here. Is there anything else like the Boum I should consider?

I appreciate that @@panacea.palace ! I would definitely check out the Electro-Harmonix Platform - I made a video about that too. Definitely a great value, stereo, and has some drive character that I find to be really nice. It's priced really fairly too. Check that one out! =)
