Sins of a Solar Empire exploded onto the real-time strategy scene in 2008 and wowed genre enthusiasts with its seamless blend of RTS and 4X gameplay, amazing graphics and deep strategy. Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is still well loved today with thriving modding and multiplayer scenes.
Now, Ironclad Games and Stardock return with Sins of a Solar Empire II, a long awaited and much anticipated sequel to the hit series. With all new strategic and tactical gameplay elements, reworked mechanics and a whole game engine, new user interface and graphics, Sins of a Solar Empire has returned to stake its claim once more as the king of of the RTS genre!

Found this game on a whim when I was a kid. I was looking at the pc games in an aisle at Target. Looked at the box and it looked so cool. Little did I know 15 years later I would still play it. One of my favorite games of all time. Been playing the early stuff and am loving it. Cant wait to play my beloved Advent!

Loved Sins back in the day. Like a beautiful mashup of Warcraft 3, Supreme Commander, and 4x, but in space.
Greatest strategy game ever imo

One of the best things i remember from playing Sins back in the day was the "Heaven" skybox that some maps have (the one that looked like our sky here with white clouds and a yellow sun far away).
It was so mesmerizing to look at, I dont know why i dont see that Skybox everytime i play now..
Keep your eyes open! The current skyboxes are due for an update
Been playing since Trinity, bought Rebellion on release day, love this game. Have hundreds of hours in it, and the fantastic mod scene has extended its life considerably for me. Can't wait to buy Sins 2 when it releases on Steam!

Loved the first game to bits especially the star trek armada 3 mod. I also love the fact that the a lot of the Modders have been hired to work on the game and make it way more accessible to the community. I love the feature of being able to track and shoot down missiles. I would also love to see capital ship movement introduced in combat, as seen in the star trek armada 3 and other mods. Instead of ships sitting in one spot shooting, they fly around the gravity well automatically trying to shoot each other.
Fully agree that more movement of ships in battles would make the game more dynamic and “real”

Never got super into the the lore but i remember playins sins of a solar empire and setting custom maps with 4-6 stars and dozens of planets and adding bots to conquer. Was so so much fun.
A developer thoroughly enjoying the mods contributing to their game's growth. Now, that's rare!
They loterally made an update for graphocs so modder didn't have to dowlaod a seperate thing to make the mod playable
I fell in love with the original Sins games and I have never even blinked when they released an expansion. I'm not the type to pre-order anything, but this series is the exception.
Been playing since the first Sins, and boy oh boy can't wait for the new features of Sins 2!

What new features?
Gosh I loved Sins of a Solar Empire. Bought the Physical copy back when it came out in stores. Just looked so amazing to me back then. Three distinctive factions that fought in different ways, the mix of empire building and getting your eco going but also heading into massive fights. Ships having different abilities and roles...
Rebellion doubled down on all of that and of course the lil dlcs added as well which just enhanced gameplay.
The modding community is amazing... you got Halo mods, Star Wars, Star Trek, entire overhauls... it has been a treat.
Truly, the only two things that would have made the game an even better experience than it had been would have been a campaign mode for each faction, to learn some more about them and their motivations and how they deal with things.
As well as less lag. Mid to late game always started lagging but then again. That seems to be a theme with most empire building strategy games. Just too much going on at once.
I really enjoyed number 1. It certainly opened my eyes to a whole new genre of games.
I will be keeping a close eye on number 2 for sure. Hope that it releases finished and reviews well.

Yes, Vesari are escaping the existential threat, the 4th faction. Faction already mentioned in the Rebellion intro that they are close, since Vesari are begin more desperate, and it was stated that scouts come in contact with them. But as we see, in Sins II there is no word about them and except few mechanics there is nothing new, its looks more to me like an remastered/enhanced edition, than a full fledged sequel.
Also, Advent become Advent after millenia of exile on a harsh desert world. Its no wonder that they are twisted and thirst for vengeance.

I have played since I got my very first pc in 2008, sins 1 was my introduction to pc gaming and it was a hell of a first impression, it solidified for decades the type of games I was interested in and drove my lifelong interest in sci fi and astronomy. I still play lots, have all the DLC's, have probably bought sins for more more of my friends on steam than any other game and have been enjoying the hell out of the second one in early access as well.
I can't believe such an incredible, genre defining game has been made in my home province and that a sequel came after 15 years, as well that we have continued to have support for the first game for this long, thank you for keeping ironclad games and sins alive, I think I speak for all of us when I say it means a lot. Incredibly under rated and talented people behind this project for sure.

There's nothing quite like playing a single game of the original for 10+ hours only to wind up losing and not even being mad about it because it was so much fun. And to do that 15 years after the game came out...amazing.

Shit, now I have the urge to reinstall Sins 1 to play around with until 2 releases lol. I was never any good at 4X or RTS games, yet I keep going back to both and Sins was an excellent blend of the two! 💚

My only complaint with Sins of a Solar Empire is that the backstory barely affects the game itself. Rebellion fixed that some, but still the story is barely existent and can be told entirely in a couple pages. I hope the new one fleshes things out more.

Honestly i always felt that Sins was the rightful successor to Lucas Arts best ever Star Wars RTS 'Star Wars Rebellion'
Still looking forward to SoSE II, it's the Biggest RTS release since SCII-LotV and since Blizz has spent the last few years forgetting they're a fricken RTS company one of the few to look foward too in my book.

I do hope Sins II doesn't have siege ships that so easily turn starbases and other planetary defenses trivial. It always bothers me when ships have drastically disproportionate damage and especially range against stationary defenses. Stationary defenses already pay a heavy price by, well, being stationary (sans the Orkulus anyway) as well as the starbases costing an enormous amount of resources. When a small fleet of siege and anti-strikecraft can lay waste to a system with massive stationary defenses with no problem that is always disappointing.

Sins started running a long time ago for sure, and is currently sprinting :)
Different genres.
Sins has only gotten better over time, while Stellaris has done the exact opposite.
they fill different niches but the origin likely proved that you could make space games that are not pure turn based
Sins is an RTS first, 4X second. In this regard nothing beats it.

I wasn't sure what Sin 2 could offer that Sins didn't already have and I was on the fence about the orbiting planets...
But now that I know it's optinal, I'm more warm to the idea of trying it and if I dont like it, turning it off.

Shame it's not available on Steam in early access, and currently requires EGS to access. The sooner this game becomes playable for players on Steam (to match EGS) the better.
The game will have a full release on Steam this Summer (not Early Access), at which time the EGS version will receive a large update to match

Total War series had four titles by 2008. BfME had two. Then there was Empire at War +expansions and lets not forget Dawn of War Dark Crusade.
Most of which are good enough that i still have them installed.
Real hyped to play 2, sure hope there's a real profanity filter in this one so I don't join a game and then get called a slur and kicked

While I like the hands off and low APM style, the game needs to be more than two static blobs fighting each other.
Not a fan of APM games 😅
You don't need a fast APM to play, it's nothing like a traditional RTS when it comes to attention. Also, unless you're playing multiplayer you can (and probably should) make liberal use of the pause button. I'm not bad at Sins now but in SP I pause it all the time to think about my next moves
@@battlemode exactly why these games are more my thing. Big fan of immersion and narrative even if self made. Sins 1 was great for this.
Unfortunately the second game is so beige it doesn't deserve to be called a sequel, it's more of a remaster. Same races, same ships, nothing new.

Nice to see that you have expanded upon the things that made the original game good in Sins II and added some very interesting new mechanics. So many studios seem to discard the good parts and/or dumb down gameplay in sequels, when it is this depth that keeps players like myself engaged with the title. I am very much looking forward to the release of Sins II.
They left out the part of the history where Stardock sold my access to the game to another company which then cut my access to the game I had purchased.
Please have a immersive and great story based campaign
Unfortunately that was out of scope for launch. Sins is meant to be a sandbox game first and foremost. If we do a campaign, it will be as DLC at some point in the future.
too bad Sins 2 is in 2D again , and the U.I looks so bad , and looks like mobile game compare to Sins 1.
