Today is a very special day for the entire Maiden Mundial family. Listening to this song performed by our loved ones is something that will certainly be etched in our memory. As soon as I woke up, I listened to the preview at the soundcheck and I was already happy. Later, when everything was confirmed, I almost squealed with emotion, that emotion that only fans know how to feel.
Im really impressed by Dave, the solo is really really close to the studio version, i wasnt expecting that much precision since long time has passed. his solo sounded overall better than adrian's one in this first rendition. Im sure they will get better and better during tour.
I was surprised they focused so thoroughly on this as well. They took their time to listen to the album version. It must have been a travel in time (the irony :P) for them.
It seems like the Maiden guys still continue to practice and get better, and I can only praise them to push forward like this. Dave's solo was so smooth
Dave & Adrian delivered the best work in their careers on Somewhere In Time and I was worried how the guitars would be sounding now. Well, they did it justice! Those two are still geniuses on another level than any other guitar duo out there

@Elliot Leaver Fair enough. It's hard to find any footage from that time, especially from Yugoslavian gigs, but I have their set list from rock newspapers from back than. My older brother was at that show, his confirmation is enough for me. But you can believe whatever you want it to.
Looks to me like there are no proper amps on the stage, with everything routed via a desk (or computer) so the sound man has control of every signal. Lots of stage monitors though, so I assume they're not using in-ears.
This is a genuinely beautiful moment. I'm betting a huge number in this crowd were not even born when this song was released and still sang every word. This gave an old man goosebumps
ive heard that it has been due to Adrian struggling with solo in the middle part, witch can actually be heard (and seen) in the clip. Awesome performance anyway 🙂

I’m literally paralyzed with emotions. I’d never thought that the mighty Maiden would actually play this live for the first time ever. Adrian nails the solo, even tops the studio version. If this is the last tour they do, then I’ll pay through the nose to see Maiden history in the making.
A day to remember. It took them(Maiden) almost 40 years to play live on stage this Masterpiece. I feel sorry for some friends who passed away and their wish was to see Maiden playing Alexander the Great on stage. Why you've waited so long guys ??

I envy the crowd that witnessed this live. The very fact that Maiden chose to do this shows they care about the fans. There will never be another Maiden. Legends 🤘 Please release a DVD of this. The fans who couldn't attend these shows deserve it.
That moment at 6:59 shows that they’re real musicians, that this is live and not running of backing tracks - and how tricky that stuff actually is. Great recovery there. I enjoy this so much more than 100% perfection.
proof that they aren't using any backing tracks or even a click track otherwise there'd be someone on their in-ears telling them when to come back in on each part....which proves that stupid argument of "every band uses tracks" is BS. Maiden have a bigger show and more stuff going on than any other band and they don't need any of that crap
Finally somewhere in time gets the recognition after being left out for so many years. Caught somewhere in time , Stranger in a strange land and Alexander the Great, 3 out of 8 from the album, pretty impressive I would say.
As soon as they played it they had to think it was a huge mistake to have never played it before! What an amazing song and they absolutely nailed it. Dave Murray was on fire on his solo.

Damn Dave's solo was spot on. Bruce sounded phenomenal! I didn't realize Adrian had almost all the solos in this song. I thought initially maybe Dave couldn't handle his so Adrian must be playing all these thinking maybe Time caught up with Dave. Man I was wrong and he smoked his. Great job.
I always assumed the usual solo sharing took place. Dave played the acoustic and Ade the electric. Maybe that's true and Dave didn't want to do it. Do you know for a fact it was all Adrian in the studio?

Adrian couldn’t remember the guitar tune/tone for the solo..it was compressed so much during the final recording, he couldn’t get that some tone/tuning back
They also apparently used some synthesized guitar parts on the studio version that they couldn't replicate live. I did see an interview with Nicko a long time ago where he said that they had previously tried rehearsing it as they did want to do it live but Adrian couldn't remember a lot of it. He made a couple of other comments about it but in a tongue in cheek way mainly blamed Adrian!!

Well, actually Alexander was played once, but it went without special attention. They played ATG in Istanbul, Turkey.

Today is a very special day for the entire Maiden Mundial family. Listening to this song performed by our loved ones is something that will certainly be etched in our memory. As soon as I woke up, I listened to the preview at the soundcheck and I was already happy. Later, when everything was confirmed, I almost squealed with emotion, that emotion that only fans know how to feel.

Im really impressed by Dave, the solo is really really close to the studio version, i wasnt expecting that much precision since long time has passed. his solo sounded overall better than adrian's one in this first rendition.

Dave & Adrian delivered the best work in their careers on Somewhere In Time and I was worried how the guitars would be sounding now. Well, they did it justice! Those two are still geniuses on another level than any other guitar duo out there

It's not a global premiere,they play it live on Somewhere in time tour, back in 86, but not since then.

Incredible, never thought it would sound this good today live, compared to the studio cut from nearly 4 decades ago, simply incredible!

Looks to me like there are no proper amps on the stage, with everything routed via a desk (or computer) so the sound man has control of every signal. Lots of stage monitors though, so I assume they're not using in-ears.
It was a crime that this song hasn't been a staple in IM's setlist...

Não tem como explicar a paixão por essa banda, sou fã do Maiden desde os 14 anos, estou com 33, literalmente, metade da minha vida ouvi e me emocionei ao som deles. "Os homens passam, as músicas ficam", já dizia o mestre brasileiro, Raulzito. Up!
Eu já fiquei maluco por ouvir Afraid to Shoot Strangers e The Prisoner em um show deles, imagina uma pedrada dessa.

I’m literally paralyzed with emotions. I’d never thought that the mighty Maiden would actually play this live for the first time ever. Adrian nails the solo, even tops the studio version. If this is the last tour they do, then I’ll pay through the nose to see Maiden history in the making.

A day to remember. It took them(Maiden) almost 40 years to play live on stage this Masterpiece. I feel sorry for some friends who passed away and their wish was to see Maiden playing Alexander the Great on stage. Why you've waited so long guys ??

Was barely in my teens when this song was released! They were in the prime of their Youth. Now as the Sun goes down on their illustrious career - as I have turned 50! They perform this epic song for the 1st time in 37 years!!! To a crowd comprising people who are so young & might not even been thought of when it was released - I can only cry - I listen to Alexander the Great almost every day and play along the guitar. Thank you Iron Maiden - My life's come a full circle. Thank you

Damn Dave's solo was spot on. Bruce sounded phenomenal! I didn't realize Adrian had almost all the solos in this song. I thought initially maybe Dave couldn't handle his so Adrian must be playing all these thinking maybe Time caught up with Dave. Man I was wrong and he smoked his. Great job.
I always assumed the usual solo sharing took place. Dave played the acoustic and Ade the electric. Maybe that's true and Dave didn't want to do it. Do you know for a fact it was all Adrian in the studio?
There are only 2 solos. 1 for Adrian and 1 for Dave. It's the way the song has always been.

I could never understand why this song was never performed live! I mean, this and Caught Somewhere in Time are obvious highlights from that classic album. What a time to be alive 🤘🏻
Adrian couldn’t remember the guitar tune/tone for the solo..it was compressed so much during the final recording, he couldn’t get that some tone/tuning back
They also apparently used some synthesized guitar parts on the studio version that they couldn't replicate live. I did see an interview with Nicko a long time ago where he said that they had previously tried rehearsing it as they did want to do it live but Adrian couldn't remember a lot of it. He made a couple of other comments about it but in a tongue in cheek way mainly blamed Adrian!!

At the peak of alexanders empire it included all of republic of macedonia. Balkan slavs with the exceptions of slovenes are the least slavic slavs, more so macedonians.
