Mads, Laowa lenses lack gaskets. Wrap a strip of gaffer tape around the lens mount. I do this with my 15mm f2 Zero-D when at Jokulsarlon and in any moist climate. Long ago I permanently ruined the electronics in a camera body using a lens lacking a gasket while out in a light drizzle in the Chilean fjords. You still risk moisture infiltration of the unsealed Laowa lens, but you won't lose use of the camera for the rest of your trip. I store gaffer tape wrapped on a leg of each of my tripods. All the best and keep your wonderful videos flowing.

Great selection of images Mads, really loved the ones from the Ice Beach, some real jaw droppers amongst them for sure. The timing of your video is also perfect as I am attending Greg's Hamburg workshop in February and giving serious thought as to what gear to take. I have the Canon 14-35mm (bought that after you discussed it a while back🙂) and until I saw this week's video, I was considering the Canon 10-20mm as the option of going wider than 14mm is appealing to me, especially for internal compositions such as staircases. Like the fact you can use filters with it too as the 10-20mm doesn't offer that option at the moment apart from gel filters. Will definitely now give this serious consideration and will look into the reviews, given your initial findings on its performance.

I've wanted this lens since it was announced, a buddy bought one but I spent my money on getting a Hasselblad film camera instead so could not afford the Laowa 10mm for my Sony gear.
I dont shoot landscapes I'm mainly glamour/art-nude I wanted this lens to shoot with people! keeping the heads in the centre of frame but having the legs of the models wildly exaggerated and also to do some crazy artistic weird cramped space type of shots. Most of the reviews I see of it are either bloggers or landscape people.
Those Ice cave images are amazing very very different to your standard landscape type images. Love them!

Stunning photos. It's so crazy how close you have be with this 10mm. I was in Estonia, Narva-Joesuu, to photograph the lighthouse there with this Laowa lens. Okay, I did use Zfc so it wasn't really 10mm but still amazing. I was too far away. I treated my lens as it were a zoom lens. Mistake was made. What a waste of opportunity. But, I learned my lesson and cropped the photo in cinemascope aspect ratio and got somewhat acceptable results. Great lens, just be careful with positioning.

Come on! Food is overrated, anyway, and so is a roof over your head.
Seriously, though, Iceland is outrageously expensive, and, tbh, unjustifiably so.
      11€ for a 33cl bland beer?
On the other hand, the landscape is fantastic, the lighting conditions are amazing, and you get to see auroras quite often. It’s not even THAT cold, if you stick close to the coast, due to the Gulfstream lapping the island, unless it’s windy. If you venture in the interior, well, it’s another story…

Nice video and incredible great pictures! I have the Sony 12-24mm f/4 and absolutely love it. The f/2.8 version must be even better, but it’s also quite large and more €€€. Previously, I used the old Sony 16-35mm f/2.8, but since buying the 12-24mm f/4, I prefer it.
However, as I aim to travel with more compact gear, I’ve come to love my Sony PZ 16-35mm f/4 in conjunction with the Tamron 28-200mm. For landscapes at f/8 on my Sony A7R V, I don’t notice much difference compared to my more expensive Sony lenses. Yes, at 200% magnification in the corners, I can see some variations, but they’re hard to spot after sharpening.
Sometimes, I do miss the wider field of view, and this 10mm lens could be the perfect solution. It seems very compact too. Autofocus is a welcome feature since I often use bracketing, and the ability to use filters is also a great advantage.
That said, wow-you really took some risks! I wouldn’t dare to do what you did. A few years ago at Reynisfjara Beach, some friends of mine lost quite a lot of gear (three bodies and several lenses). I narrowly avoided a similar fate myself. I was standing a bit closer to the water but felt the urge to head to the restroom and moved away just in time. Saved by my prostate-hahaha!
The next day, someone from our group lost his lens and camera body at Jökulsárlón.
So, as I mentioned earlier, I definitely wouldn’t take the same risks. But buying the lens? Definitely yes!

The most important issue (talking about the lens which didn't seem to be mentioned much) is you have no idea how wide it is. I considered returning mine because it was so hairy to use. But after waiting two seasons!!! for Laowa Canada to ship, I couldn't really change my mind if I made a mistake. Wow I lost lot of shots waiting. BTW - DO not buy direct from Laowa Canada! I've had several months using it now and it's still bewildering.
This is a special purpose lense. It is very hard to use. Period. And I've had a lot of wide angles over fifty years. It's pretty well a technical lens. No one can tell me that on a Sony rinky dink monitor and their self-admitted vague level viewfinder graphic (read your manual) you can get level shots. It's a real crap shoot, and it's critical you get it right in all three axis.
The benefits are that (as much as I'm looking at them compared to other lenses that have tens of thousands of shots on them ) I haven't seen any sharpness issues, it's reasonably small (smaller than a Hass 40 Distagon anyway) has a 77 mm filter benefit, and a very nice focus action out of the box.
Downside is the usual wonky erratic sun flare issues common to ultra-wides (again hard to see in the field in the ridiculous small finders) and the so called lens shade is a cheap plastic bracelet that I threw away as I figured it would cost 50 bucks to replace if I broke it or lost it. Use your index finger shade instead.
Also rear caps seem to be proprietary so other brands are best just banging them on with your fist. Seems to be a common e mount problem.
Summarizing, it's a mixed bag. Like a fisheye you buy and are so enamoured with for a while you just can't use it all the time. (My 10.5 Nikkor is probably worth 10 bucks now but it was fun for six months.) So try before you buy. If you think an iPhone 13mm coverage is wide, you ain't seen nothing yet.
