  • Straight from my writing desk, this is my personal H3k which up for auction starting at 99 cents & ended at considerably more :) It is fully refurbished, fantastically functional, tuned, cleaned, and customized to my super picky standards.

    I just got a Media 3 and I'm *so happyyyyyyyy*. I wish you were in the UK (or I was in the States) so I could send it to you for a spruce up. I will be showing off my modest collection on my channel soon though, and am looking forward to catching up with your videos too.

    My 'European' Hermes 3000 1965 has the backspace on the right from the factory. It has the accents for French and German, also a dedicated cedilla key middle row far right. The accents do not move the platen so you type the accent followed by the character. It was bought by my FIL who wrote scripts in French to be broadcast mainly to West Africa.

      nice! i believe Hermes installed the R-hand backspacer on all hebrew models, but it was available at customer request for a free for all others. The modification itself is fairly simple, but without the factory parts it’s fairly tricky to tune the functionality of each mechanism. That’s a pretty special machine you’ve got!

      @@TypewriterJustice All German and Swiss models of Hermes 3000 that I have seen so far either in real or on photos (quite a few over the years...) always had the backspace on the right side. Whether it was optional, I don't know, but it sure was the usual way here. So factory standard for German and Swiss models had to be tab-left / backspace-right.

      @@ultimatetypewritingmachine6976 interesting! must have been a preference in the european market- here in the states all the qwertz machines i’ve seen are still Lhand backspacer

      @@TypewriterJustice Strange. I have not seen even one so far with the combination of qwertz and righthanded backspace. Also, all qwerty made for the UK that I ever came across were righthand-backspacers as well. At least as far as I took notice of it. Either the US market was different, or at least the people at Hermes thought so.

    Fun fact, hidden secret.
    I saw you get to Typefaces stuck and you freed them with your hands...
    No, no no, this is Swiss, we have no time to dirty your hands like a peasant...lol
    When they get stuck, instead of fixing them with you bare fingers like a chump, and here is the hidden secret...next time they get stuck hit the Margin release button, and it fixes that for you.
    You're welcome ❤

    Very very nice and you did a wonderful job!
    I am curious if you would accept another challenge with another Hermes 3000. I would like mine to be serviced exactly like yours but also, I would like some special characters to be added... How can I contact you for more details?
    Thank you!

  • @JacyEberlein
    @JacyEberlein 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ah! I k n e w there was supposed to be a silent return clip in the 3000! Mine ratchets like crazy, and I can't find where the damned thing is supposed to go, not in any of the old repair manuals either!
    Could you please make a video on where that thing is, and how you're doing the adjustment?

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacy Eberlein - it hugs around the upper shoulder of the starwheel in the escapement, and is pretty tricky to access. Unfortunately, they’re pretty thin & brittle, and if the machine was improperly lubricated or has old dried lubricant on the escapement then they have a tendency to drag, which often leads to them popping out of position & hanging up the carriage, then breaking. I’ve made replacements for them before, but it’s a pain in the butt, and it’s much better to just make sure it doesn’t get to that point. Making a video for it is not out of the question, but don’t hold your breath ;)

    You mentioned your Torpedo being loud. Are you referring to the 1949 Torpedo 18 you had on here a while back?

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike H. - nope! i mean my personal favorite 18b, though they all sound pretty much the same. Even with a new platen, a Torpedo will be louder than a refurbished Hermes

    Do you sell individual parts for the Hermes 3000 from your stock pile? I’m trying to find a new standard metal case and the metal front plate that has better paint than the one I currently have.
