0:27 - one of the best clarinet parts ever... all in unison, low register... LOVE THIS. This song is right up there with Blue Ridge Saga and one of my personal favorites, Exhaltation. yes i'm a band geek and dang proud of it~! lol.
Used to play this and other James Swearingen compositions back in high school in jr high and high school about 15 to 20 years ago. Oh my gosh did I start geeking out while listening to this. Still remember all the parts! And I'm glad band geeks are still playing it today. Band geeks for life! Totally posting this on my Facebook and tagging all my band sisters!
Its funny how much you learn in a year, I played this at my first concert as a freshman in October and struggled a bit, but today we played it out of boredom as the last day of school is in a couple days and it was so easy.
Loved this piece! Played the euphonium for my primary school band in the 2012 syf and I'm taking part in this year's syf and still playing the euphonium in my secondary school ^^
wow, it's so great to see that middle school bands are still playing this song!! I played this in middle school as a flutist 20 years ago! Good music never dies!
My first exposure to James Swearingen was in 1978 in 8th grade at Mid America Music Camp at Ball State in Indiana. We played Exaltation. Mr. Swearingen's music is schmaltzy to say the least. But oh so much fun to play!
I played this my freshman year of high school 9 years ago. I cant believe it was so long ago. I had good memories being in the band in hs, I feel so old now
Invicta certainly is a memory for me. I played it my Freshman year on Flute, read it on piccolo my sophmore year, and played it on Bass Clarinet for Junior year. It's a favorite with my band director. As is "Of Pride and Celebration."
My favorite Tuba piece from junior high school. It sounds a lot different from the front than it does in the back row of the band. I haven't heard this since 1983. Jeez I'm old. Thanks for posting this!!!
Playing this in my 8th grade band as a tenor sax 😊 this song is amazing and listening to a track definitely helped me with my part since it's one of the main parts in my band
I first heard this at a pre-band festival concert by another school, then heard it about three weeks later at the actual competition. It is one of the more memorable pieces I have heard but not played.
last year we played this judges gold invitational to Disneyland or as everyone called it on the band bus didneyland that was a very important trip for our band being its the first time Lincoln ever got gold which is hard I'm trombone 1 and my part is very high and fast paced
whenever i hear this, feel like im on the Space Mountain ride at disney world. xD love this song, and that little alto sax part at measrue 62 i think, where we have the melody. :)
I played this in 8th grade (around. 1982). I played some of the best wind band literature through high school and college. Invicta is still one that ranks near the top of my favorites. My son is a middle schools band director now. I truly hope to hear his band play it one day.
I played snare for this song in a concert like yesterday. It was so much fun and we did awesome. We only had a last minute rehearsal in the highschool auditorium so I wasnt used to the loudness of the acoustic snare. We usually use some old quiet one that I have to beat the crap out of
Played alto sax on this in 1993 in middle school. I think this was fun for all junior high students no matter what they played. Every instrument had an awesome part.
My band's getting ready for the Forum Festival later this month, and we're going to be playing this song. When we were choosing our three songs, Invicta was unchallenged as one of the songs.
one or two parts is a little close to super smash bros (im still try to find which theme) This is an epic song im playing it for band!!! thanks for posting it!!! our band teacher plays this for us to hear what it sounds like!!!
