    Note:
Yes, Federer indeed lost both matches. Lost the 3rd set in Bercy 2018 7-6 (3) in the decisive tie break and lost the 3rd set at the IW final 6-3 in the 3rd set after a poor display. The concept "Escape" is refered to the way Federer came back on both sets to level the match under inmense pressure. Thanks for watching :)

Federer lost an incredible amount of matches against Djokovic that went the distance, especially in the later years. When Roger won he did it generally in straight sets, with the exception of one match at the US Open and that RG 2011. Such a shame because RF had many many opportunities in some of the losses against the serb that he simply couldn't convert.

Well put ; if Federer ever had a weakness if was his generally poor conversion rate of break points - especially against stubbornly consistent players like djokovic & delpotro - he lost two US opens against both , despite leading from the get go & having some match
points ..... his conversion rate of several break & game points in these and other matches generally takes him to 24/5 GSs easily......
Perhaps his aggressive style didn't always fire at its best when he was leading matches

@@johnrenehan7406 let's rehash history.... 2005 AO final fed lost to marat safin, 2008 Wimbledon final fed lost to nadal, 2009 AO final fed lost to nadal, 2009 US open final fed lost to del potro, US open 2010 an 2011 fed lost to the Goat novak, 2012 AO fed lost to nadal again, Wimbledon final 2014 an 2015 fed lost to the Goat nole, and how can we forget wimbledon 2019......and I'm not even gonna mention the countless times fed lost to nadal on clay........ let's see you rationalize that? fed got to 16-17 grand slams and hovered there forever, took him forever to get to 20........if it wasn't for nole, nadal would have 30 plus grand slams!

these aren't really "escapes" since djokovic won all these matches. Theres a number of other djokovic fed matches with similar scorelines where djokovic won such as 2009 miami where djokovic was down a set, 2009 rome sf where nole was down a set and a break and down bp for double break in 2nd set and down a break in the 3rd set and won 5 straight games to win the match. not to mention all the great grand slam escapes such as 2010 and 2011 us open and 2019 wimbledon all saving 2 match points. 2014 indian wells was pretty good because federer was playing much better in the first half and djokovic had no chances to break until 43 in the second set.

People often talked about Federer's remarkable "prime" period between 2004 till 2007, when he barley loss matches in each year, but personally I think Federer's level actually went up a notch after the 2.0 version of Djokovic in 2011, even though Federer did not have the same success or results like he has done during the so-called prime, but Federer did improved his level as we can all see the results against Nadal since 2015, particularly on hard court, Nadal haven't beating neither of the two greats.

There are so many matches where someone played Federer and they had this sort of "escape" but lost.
Pretty much there are multiple matches every tournament where this "escape" happens by someone almost losing then coming back but losing anyway.

Djoki beat nadal 8 times on clay and 2 times at french!! FEd only beat 2 timews on clay and never at Fench. The true ammbassador/statesman to tennis is Djoki ..He stood his beliefs and never budged..As with Fed he sold to the highest bidder and never showed anything more than running shoe sales..You even see it in feds psot match speeches not very bright , never had anything to say.,fumbled through his thoughts...

Haha- chokerer still better than Djkobitch, a 38 year old vs 32 year old prime still pushing him to his limits- let's see Novak play like this at 38.

2014 in Dubai versus Djokovic was an escape or maybe the US Open final 2007, these two not. Federer lost.
