The floating black box is a dock float . It probably come out from under a dock. And floated there where someone tied it to the tree if someone come looking for it
I wonder if that big black box could be a homemade duck/goose blind. Since you can't see all sides of it, there might be an opening for the hunter to get inside of it.

The holes you see in it are what the important things were, and what you see there are just the leftovers. As for that gas cap, it looks like it might have come off of a Ford Falcon or Ford Thunderbird, both of which are highly sought after vehicles (in short, CASH MONEY!). What it looks like to me is what is left over after they stamp out the shapes of metal items they are making. They take a molten bar of steel, they start stamping it flat then they put it in a stamping die and then stamp out the shapes. These look like the shape of a claw hammer head.
