I'd just like to put this out there... I commented a few factual things about Jaquie and I come to see all my comments have been deleted. :) The reason the comment section is "so nice and positive" is because Queen Jaquie deletes any and every comment that may point out the massive inconsistencies and plot holes in her story. Nothing I said was in any way rude - only factual. I used to be a huge supporter of this girl... now I'm just left disappointed. I strongly hope someone has the chance to read this before it is deleted.

Wow, you must have been REALLY tired when you filmed this. When you went shoe shopping you were walking pretty normal. Or maybe you are overly focusing on your gait? Sometimes people have this problem when learning to walk again after an injury. Double-tasked walking can help in this case. You basically distract yourself so you can allow your body to slip back into automatic mode, resulting in a more natural gait. Ask your PT about it, maybe it helps.
I was really worn out and hurting by the last shot but I fear that I may have also been over thinking it. I want them to work perfectly and I put too much into it if that makes any sense. This morning I practiced again with no camera out and I felt way better about it. But it is still hurting my feet and back so obviously still adjusting.
Well, that is what I meant by over focusing. Watching your other vlogs, you seem to walk more naturally when you are not thinking about it. If you focus too much on wanting to walk 'right', it can in some cases actually have the opposite effect. But like I said, there is ways to train this. In a way, your body may know how to walk normally, but your brain doesn't always, if that makes any sense. Ask your PT about it, they'll probably be able to help with this.

Rose M. I was thinking the exact same thing. Just seemed like you were over focusing when you were walking by yourself then with Harlow or the walker Jacquie. Alone your legs were very far apart, my hips hurt watching, I think any of us would've struggled. Keep up the good work Jacquie.

You definitely need to talk to your PT. The differences your exhibiting here with your AFOs alone/ walker/ Harlow are not related to foot drop (especially as you are wearing the AFOs). Your gait is completely different without Harlow/ the walker which is more suggestive of a balance disorder (POTS would not cause this change in gait)/ another neurological problem.
I agree. A walker does more for balance than actual support, and counterbalance definitely is just to help with balance. The difference between walking with Harlow and without is not just a bit more wobbly or insecure, but she is displaying an entirely different gait abnormality. On which, by the way, we have not seen before.
As I said in another comment, she might be focusing too much on her gait, being tired and all, and maybe nervous because of the recording. There are ways to re-train this, though. I hope she has a good PT who has experience with gait abnormalities.

Eloise Eighteen I'm not an expert either but yes, there was a huge difference. She actually had her legs quite far apart compared to with Harlow and the chair. I hope this isn't something new neurologically 🤞
No, this doesn't indicate a neurological problem. More a behavioral one. With a neurological problem there would not be such a drastic difference between her walking with Harlow and without. Or such a difference in gait from one moment to the next. This is more a software problem than a hardware one, if you understand what I mean.
She has sort of 'adopted' an abnormal gait for some reason. This can happen either consciously or subconsciously, like when someone is afraid to fall, or when someone is in pain and tries to walk in a way that hurts less. Over time though the pattern someone adopted to have less pain, can go on and cause them MORE pain because of how unnatural it is. And sometimes people entirely 'forget' how to walk normally, except - in some cases - when they aren't actively thinking about it. She is, in a way, overthinking her walking. Good news is that it's possible to re-train this with a good PT.

Why are your legs so far apart when you walk with them? That looks painful 😣 and it’s probably what’s causing your back pain. I remember from previous videos that without the AFOs you wouldn’t walk with your legs so far apart like that. So that worries me.

When you showed the 3 different ways of walking Jaquie,there was a noticeable difference when walking without the walker or Harlow. Your stance is wide. Think of walking in a split down the hallway. That's what it looked like on the vid. It's worth being mindful of that ;). Feet should be under your hips while walking. I'm sure they still feel awkward walking in, but hopefully they will become kinda "invisible" to u feeling wise after awhile. Gl :)

Hi Jaquie! I’m glad you are getting more used to wearing your AFO’sI wear them too, and it definitely does take a bit of getting used to. I have a tip for you though, that may help you get your shoes on a little easier, and that is to take your AFO’s out of your shoes, and put them on first. Then slip your shoes on once your AFO’o are fastened onto your feet/legs. That is how I have always had to do it. I can’t get my shoes on at all while my AFO’s are in my shoes. I hope this can help you in some way. GOD bless you!

The way he loves you is so apparent and undiluted. It's easy to be a healthy person in a relationship or marriage and worry about how you'd struggle to take care of your spouse if they were in a bad position for a prolonged or permanent amount of time. But he's just happy to be there to help you live your best life and that is a gift.

I love that you remind us how using the tools available to you is nothing to be ashamed of. I struggle with using the tools that I have to help my autism in public because I am afraid of drawing too much attention to myself. Somehow I feel scared to use my ear defenders, or sensory tools, or communication cards - I always end up pushing myself and as soon as I come home, I crash or break down. So yeah, really, thank you for mentioning that so often. It helps me become more confident!
I’ve never had AFOs but I have worn braces from middle of the rib cage down to my toes and crutches. I also use an electric wheelchair and a manual wheelchair because I have Spina Bifida with Myelomeningocele Level L3-4.
How do you walk without AFOs? Maybe you should show that. To see the improvement.
I was going to but I was too worn out after my PT. Basically the same just slower and more likely to fall over, less stable.

Your AFOs are awesome just for limiting your foot drop and helping you stop tripping over your feet (though I understand they can't help 100% with that?). I'm so glad you have so many good tools you can combine to maximize your freedom! The way you talk about medical tools have really helped me in trying to convince my mother that she needs a wheelchair. She thinks that would mean she'd walk less, but I see how she doesn't go out because she's afraid of getting too bad to get home. When I tell her about how you use your chairs, the new one and the one before, and copy what you say about them being tools for a better life, I see her start to come around.:) Hope you can get the AFOs adjusted soon!
When I first started using my Walker, I would only use it in my house. It was hard to accept that this is my next tool to use & my health wasn’t getting better. You gave me strength to realise that they are ok & a necessary tool to live a better life.
I now take my walker everywhere I go & I’m ok with it. So again, thank you. Hugs from Australia.

Heehee! Street Smart, Jaquie! "Undo the laces more!" You know Janiece would have said it! LOL I'm getting my custom AFO, for my left foot, very soon. It's in production. No bells and whistles with mine. Yours are pretty pink, and mine will be that opaque, clearish-white color... I could have gotten them in Nude or Black, but the normal whitish color is fine with me. Those were the only options I had. So, be thankful you were able to choose pink. Also, be thankful, yours have a little padding in them. Mine will be bare up, against my skin... so, yes... they will take a lot of getting used to... wearing them a little at a time, to start, and then finally being able to wear them, full-time. It's so weird that I'm only getting one for my left foot, but my left side has always been my weakest, which is kinda weird, but, whatever... I am currently in aqua-therapy, and it is slow-going, because of my left ankle and knee being so weak. I often force myself to start over with my counts, if I can't do my exercises, to the count I am supposed to, without "falling" or needing to put my other foot down, or having to grab the bar, for balance. I get really frustrated with not being strong enough, to do simple exercises, in a near-weightless atmosphere, such as the pool... it just makes me mad, sometimes, not being able to do the site please things. But I like Judd's saying, "If you can't change the situation, change your attitude." I ponder that a lot, when I get frustrated with my own chronic issues. Anyway, I'm glad that you have all these great tools, to help you, with your own mobility. I'm looking forward to getting my tools, to put into play, in my daily life. If you wouldn't mind...? I need some prayer, because they have found some issues with my heart, and it is looking very much like POTS, but I won't know for certain, until I see the Cardiologist on March 19th. I have been having a lot of trouble with elevated heart rate, blood pressure (when my blood pressure has always run very low), fainting spells, and my blood work shows elevated levels of Potassium, Calcium, and co2... I told my family (if my Mom was still here, she would care), and they really don't seem concerned, at all. So, if you wouldn't mind remembering me, in your prayers? ((Hugs)) & Spoons! 💕💪💖 -Grace
I’m glad ur adjusting to ur AFOs. I had AFOs when I was younger because I would constantly falling. We ended up finding out that I had something called a tethered cord in my spine. After I had surgery to untether it I haven’t fallen. Now I am wrestling and doing gymnastics

If overheating is a concern for you, you can ask the technician to drill ventilation holes in the back of your AFOs. It’ll improve airflow and keep you more comfortable.

it's awesome that your AFO's allow you to walk without the fear of stumbling the way you have mentioned before; however, I can't recall seeing you walk at all in your videos, so I have no basis for comparison. I have only seen you in a sitting position, or lying down, like in post op. I'm very interested in hearing how the CBD is working for you as well.
You are a fortunate woman to have married your best friend. That minute he took talking directly to us about his opinions on your tools spoke volumes. You can tell that he is not only comfortable with the tools you use, but that it lightens his heart to know those tools help ensure your personal safety, especially when he's not with you.
What a sweet, kind hearted husband you have. That is such a blessing to have him in your life to support and love you!

I see that Judd is such a loving and supportive husband and he is very understanding of your needs and limits, but do you find it difficult to maintain physical intimacy in a relationship where your chronic illnesses place you in constant pain with joints, nausea, POTS, etc and with Judd working shift work or being away?
As someone with a single chronic illness I find it difficult to maintain that physical intimacy, especially when I'm constantly feeling sick, have stomach cramping, nausea, etc.
It makes me so happy hearing how understanding and supportive Judd is, you have an absolute gem of a husband!

You can definitely tell a difference in walking by yourself that you're footing looks off. You did much better with you're walker. And Harlow is such a good dog she looked up at you every step you took with her. She's super attentive when she's watching you.
Don't know if this is an option for you but have you consider equine therapy. The horses are very calm, safe animals and the tack, (saddle, halter and bridle), are designed specifically with your safety in mind. It's a great way to engage and build up your muscles especially in your core and legs which would help you with balance, strengthening, coordination as well as endurance. The horse's movement creates a gentle movement which is unique to the horse's walk while passively and actively engaging your muscles. You start with a person on each side of your hips who walks beside you and holds on to you or they just spot you and there is a person who controls the horse's head guiding the horse so you can concentrate on the fun exercises the instructor guides you through which are different physiotherapy exercises and as you improve you are given more challenging opportunities to develop and more independence from the spotters. The spillover effect into your daily life is remarkable making your mobility easier. The best thing is as you improve your family members and friends can participate with you in a variety of ways from spotters to active participants on their own horse.
My husband and I use zubits on our shoe laces. They are magnets that you loop each shoe lace through, trim any excess laces and snap the magnet together to "tie" your shoes. They come in tree different sizes or strengths I use the size one, but they have a kids I e that also works for older adults or people with disabilities.
Been watching quietly for awhile, now. Glad to see those AFO's are helping. I'm sure they'll get better as adjustments are made. I was looking for some shoelace help and saw these magnetic ones called Zubits on Amazon. Maybe those would work for you :) They come in pink, too!
Your feet are so far apart. It looks unnatural and it seems like you cannot walk well with those on like they prevent you from stepping normally.
I just got written a prescription to get an AFO for my right foot to help stabilize my ankle more because it gives me issues so watching this has given me some things to keep in mind once they're done making it. I found it ironic that just after I watched the video when first got them and started looking for shoes my orthopedic said I needed one and wrote a script for it.
I have to use a cane to ambulate as well as braces. I have a few friends that have chronic pain issues and refuse to use AIDS like canes and Walkers because it makes them look old. Well I've been using my cane for 25 years and I really don't care what other people think. It helps me walk and it helps with the pain. Kudos to you Jacquie
Lock laces are what you are looking for!!!..I got them on amazon and they work great...and they HAVE PINK!!...I have also purchased the "off brand" laces and they work just as well....I think it was ECO City laces...just search lock laces in amazon and you'll find tons...they will be perfect for you....and yes...watch the video BEFOR you try and put them on your shoes!

For no tie laces try hickies, they come in all different colors and no untieing or setting up needed. U can just slip on your shoes
Zubits no tie laces are great. They're magnetic so you have the openness of the shoe to get into it (unlike some of the rubber ones). Hard to explain, but check them out!
It is so cool that the AFO’s help so much and I know you don’t have sensitive skin on your feet but do watch for skin breakdown when you wear them!
Yeah my PT pointed that out, there are some spots on the braces that are putting too much pressure in certain areas.

You should look into the socks that are meant for walking casts. I have POTS and the heat sensitivity is killer but when I broke my foot I had a walking cast and the sock that came with it helped regulate heat really well!
It's a little bit of an out-of-the-box idea... but I wonder if you would be able to find something pink in the "trim" section of a craft store that would work well as shoe lace replacement? If it's a plastic-y material, all you would have to do is run the ends through a flame ... or have someone else do it, if you don't trust yourself =) ... and it will melt the ends together so that they'll never fray.
I feel like I've seen elastic sold in every shape and thickness possible, in every color of the rainbow. I wonder if Velcro brand sells its doubled-sided hook-and-loop tape in a width small enough that you could thread it through each pair of two shoelace grommet holes that are side by side and 'lace' your shoes up that way? (Kind of like little kids shoes, but yours would be cool because... just because =) .)

Hey Jaquie! I was just curious as to when you knew Harlow was ready for PA? I’m training my girl and she’s still new to training. We’ve been doing PA for 2 days now but I worry about overwhelming her? Did you ease Har into it? Thanks! Also, I’m so so glad you have these tools to help you 💕
Check out my Harlow video it has good info. The biggest thing is to know your dog, watch for stress signs, etc because every pooch is so very different. We started small and worked up but held back during fear stages (:

Hartville golden italian dressing is better than oil/vinegar based dressings to marinate chicken. When I used the latter in the past I always found that the chicken got rubbery. The golden italian dressing does a great job though, no rubbery texture.
For your shoes you could try elastic shoe laces, They gave me some to try at OT and I LOVE them.
I couldn't believe the difference in how easy my shoes are to put on now (I don't have afos though so I don't have experience with that) Could be worth a try though.
Jacquie - For my AFOs and footwear - I am always battling against my left side especially leg and foot always changing and fighting back at rest or anytime I'm not wearing my AFO. I have accepted that I will never win, it's just frustrating that the time needed for changes to be made means that my leg and foot have also changed. Just keep going is what I tell myself. Would you recommend massage for people with tight muscles? How does it help you?
I really hope to find someone like judd for me one day. He is so suportive and it comes so naturaly to him. My dad is really not happy with me using my tools and i always feel oncomfortabel using them around him. I'm pretty tired of feeling like that and i'm pushing myself to much on a daily bassis. So i hope i will someday meet someone as understanding at loving as judd!!❤💖 i love you guys and you have been such a big help for me!!💖💖💖
When I first started having balance issues a friend told me to go to the beach where there is sugar sand and practice falling. I thought she was CRAZY, but it actually helped.
I had AFO's before I became a paraplegic so I can for sure see the difference in your walk, I would suggest to walk with Harlow that you get the hard handle harness that would be higher for you to hold to so you would have better counter balance. It would give you a little bit more support and you wouldn't be leaning as much. Of course I know you were tired in this video but your handle on Harlow is a little too low for you too stand up straight to keep you from having good posture.
your left leg looks awkward when you walk, it looks like it is swinging outwards, why is that?
And if you look at her video in the shoe store, she's walking completely normally... she claims she is tired from PT. I don't know about you, but my entire gait, stance, posture and walking pattern doesn't change when I'm tired.

The increase of 30 minutes a day was exactly what I had to do when I first got my orthotics. They hurt a lot at first because my feet were not used to being in the correct position
I have AFOs it is hard to adjust to them and learning how to walk it's like you're walking new all over again give it time and don't get frustrated

No I ordered it specifically the length I needed but I think I need a new one with the AFOs... I feel they add some height.

You walk better without the AFOs. I'm sorry to say. I'm just not seeing the point cause without them I see you walk far more normally. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm only trying to help. Keep in mind I've been wheelchair dependent the last 7 years. So I can't walk or bare weight at all. I was just sayin you really do seem to do better without the AFOS. I wish you luck.
I have to disagree (as do my care team, lol). It is okay to have your opinion though but it will just come down to what works for me! Don't forget though, I fall much more frequently without them. Also, if I am not walking well or I am trying not to fall over, I won't be vlogging. Most of my time on camera is when I am doing okay. It's hard to pick up a camera and talk when you are not feeling well. Plus my body needs to adjust to this new tool. It is a process.

I don't know if you've been told already, but Nike actually makes a specific kind of sneaker that might work perfectly with your AFOs! They have a shoe style called the FlyEase that has a velcro closure and a back that unzips so you could easily slip you foot an AFO into place. I actually saw them in a Facebook video with a little girl with othrodic braces just like yours. Might be something to look into for another shoe option!

I’m so glad you are beginning to feel more confident with the AFOs. It took me a while to get used to mine and they had to be adjusted multiple times, but it was totally worth it. They are so useful and have given me freedom. I always wear socks that cover my ankles because sometimes the AFOs rub, but it may just depend on the person. Good luck with them!
Are any of your leggings/socks compression? Has compression clothing ever helped you and your POTS? I've only just started wearing compression socks regularly (i have leggings but i cant wear them every day) and i haven't seen much of an improvement, so i was wondering if it mayne takes a bit of time for the body to have any serious improvements.
The friction from them would make me hot and pass out, but that was when my POTS was less controlled. However I really doubt I could do those AND AFOs, that would create a ton of heat. Some people say it helps them a lot, others not so much. Trial and error to see what helps you! Best of luck!

Why don’t you wear your leggings underneath your AFOs instead of rolling them up? I don’t use AFOs but do have that EDS-skin and so I always try to put a barrier between my skin and anything hard. Just a suggestion in case it hadn’t occurred to you. 😊

My husband and my sons all love to go shooting together, and my oldest son who was in security forces with the US Air Force had this awesome tactical hoodie with all sorts of pockets for ammo and guns and stuff. I found out it's from a company called Cast Gear, so I got them for the rest of my guys for Christmas, and they loved them.
As a child, the only BBQ'ing we did was ribs, chicken, hamburgers & hot dogs. Mom would parboil the ribs to make them more tender & juicy after grilling.
I think what I used on the top of my casts and AFOs what is mink skin I know it probably sounds horrible but that’s what they had at the time for me to use because I noticed after while when I first started wearing them that the top would cut into the back of my calf and leave red marks and source. When you go to hanger see if they can’t find some type of material if you end up having the same problem I did.

Jacquie, look into zubits, hickies or xpand laces. Zubits are the strongest but hard for me to use with my weak hands. I love my hickies but don't have afos so not sure how much they stretch. I have never tried the xpand laces but they look good.

It”s good to see your doing better with your AFO’s. One saying my physio always told me, take baby steps.... meaning taking it slow, rushing will just pull you backwards. I am not sure if it can help you or not but when i was really tired or in a lot of pain also as I diteriated I found it easier to put my AFO’s (and later callipers) on, whilst sat on the bed with legs up. But I didn’t have stairs to bedroom like you do. But same technique would work on sofa. I personally found my ajustamatic bed helped me a lot to put them on as you can use the bed to help move your legs to your upper body. Very helpful when tired, weak or in pain..... it may not work or help you at all. But thought I share in case it can. TC Stacey K @ rawabilitylife
There are these magnets that you add to your normal laces or there are these things called Hickies that are rubbery “laces” and they convert your shoes into slip ons.
Wonder if you can get tennis shoes with velcro ties instead of strings to make it easier on your hands and arms.
I am looking at laces yu do not have to tie up they seem really easy to use and less likely to come undone and make you trip!
you should really start trimming harlows grinch toes (thats what i call them) to prevent slippage and reduce the risk of arthritis because of that, also the grinch toe hair will turn into hair mats between her toes. just thought you should know.
