    If you rewatch the scene with the polygraph, when Lassie asks about whether he's actually psychic, Henry takes a breath, exhales loudly and says "you're gonna have to answer". He was reminding him to breathe to cheat the machine. Everything he'd said up till then, was the truth. Only after this move, did he lie.
    I adore this episode so, so much. From the very James Bond-esque intro, to the lie detector to Shawn telling Malcolm McDowell that he got his English accent from the grandfather from Phineas and Ferb, when Malcolm McDowell voices that character. I love it so much.
    The next one is universally adored as one of the best episodes in the show. You're in for a treat!

    That entire lie detector scene is a series highlight.
    First he blurts out that he loves juliet in the heat of the moment (so you know he means it), & everyone leans over (even chief vick) to see if he's telling the truth. Jules smiling afterwards is adorable, and easily confirms she feels the same way w/o saying it.
    Then shawn beats lassie at his own revenge fantasy that he had been waiting for years to execute.
    Such a crowning moment of heartwarming & awesome. All in 1 scene.

    "I'm seeing a woman!" Is still one of my favorite Psych quotes. Its so smoothly set up, and James delivers it perfectly.

    FYI Malcolm McDowell voices Phineas and Ferb's grandad.

    I have only ever found one other reaction series to Psych and they never even made it through season 2, so I’m very grateful for your reactions

    One of the best episodes! The lie detector test scene is so iconic. It's basically the equivalent of B99's Backstreet Boys cold open!

    As for other reactors who watch Psych - Geeked Out Nation has some and then I think only do it on Patreon now after having issues with them getting taken down. Real Talk ReactionsNow has started reacting to Psych on their Patreon as well but I don't think those have hit their TH-cam channel yet.

    Get ready for more Woody! He's in a lot more episodes from now on. You're going to love him in the next episode, Last Night Gus, it is one of my favourites. And to answer your question... the Reel Rejects do a watch-along reaction on their patreon channel. He only does one a week, and you just recently caught up to him in season 5.🍍

      No episode name spoilers next time but yes last night gus is an amazing episode.

    Yes it's sad but psych is criminally underrated especially for the faces you will see on this show, woody is an amazing character and keeps things funky also the see with Mason and the other little boy might be my favorite ones for this scene I love gus in this season aswell as lassy and Jules finally giving wind to their relationship with the lie detector and especially Shawn beating the polygraph test legendary scene overall amazing episode

    Aside from more Woody, my two favorite parts of this episode come from the lie detector scenes. Lassie's declaration at the end always gets me to smile and one that's more unnoticed, when Henry tells Shawn he has to answer the psychic question, he subtly reminds him to breathe out before answering. Love this show too much.

    Yeah there arent a lot of psych reactions,,, i personally found just you and another dude (that dropped it after a while) and a few rewatch podcast. There was a really nice one that i was following. it was so nice they would point out so many references and fun facts about thetv show but they stopped around S4 :( many seem to drop it after a while because of low views, or maybe they continue watching but on their own time

      If you are talking about geekedoutnation he did react to the entire series, however he did stop uploading them to TH-cam due to recurring copyright issues. Unfortunately as far as I know the only place to find the reactions is his patreon. However it is the full episode reaction, you don't need your own copy of the episode and he's finished the series now.

      Man, this was the first episode of psych i watched up to date, while it was airing. I remember the fandom exploded when the polygraph scene came out (it was the sneak peak they released before the episode aired, and they cut it short before the last answer) omg so many memories coming back

      I'm so grateful to have gotten this far without to many issues with the Copyright gods. I feel like one day I'm gonna wake up and get massively slapped at some point. But until then, I'm enjoying making content!

    Along with Lasseter being protective over Jules, you also have to remember the reason she became his partner in the first place: Shawn ratted out the relationship he had with his previous partner from the pilot, which resulted in her being transferred. So Shawn and Jules having a relationship behind his back is even more of a betrayal than just "keeping a secret". It appears to go against department policy. He could really mess it up for them if he wanted, but he's not. Shows more growth of his character in my perspective.

    • @SomeJoeSchmoe
      @SomeJoeSchmoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I totally forgot about him having a relationship with his ex partner until he mentioned it in this episode!

    This is exactly what I think of when I think of Psych. I loved this episode and setting the bar high for season 6 already. The last few moments were so incredible.. the lie detector, Jules reaction, well everyone in the room really lol and the follow up with Shawn and Lassie. Love that in the end, Lassie is just protecting Jules from being hurt. Endearing and terrifying as he WILL shoot Shawn. If the rest of the season has this kind of energy, I look forward to the rest! Till next time psychos.

    I have known people that have had reason to lie on lie detectors before or some who were even trained to. The method I have always been told is really simple, you just have to make yourself believe it.
    If you convince yourself it is true to the point that the answer comes out of your mouth as naturally as any truth than your body doesn't react in the way the detector is trying to read.

    • @cammy85
      @cammy85 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's exactly how Henry trained Shawn, yup!! :) You can see it on Henry's face when it happens.

      The thing with lie detectors is that they measure various physiological activities. Hence why they ask you questions they know the answer to in order to calibrate it. What is detected as a "lie" is a discrepancy in natural rhythm. You don't have to believe what you say, you just gotta say it as you would say literally anything.

    Ur not “faking” a polygraph as in getting it to display the opposite result. A polygraph just monitors physiological reactions a person may have to lying: bp, pulse, respiration etc. if someone is capable of maintaining their composure, they can pass off lies as the truth. On the flip side, someone who is feeling particularly anxious or stressed could appear to be lying even while telling the truth. The easiest way you could get a false negative is to reinterpret the question in your mind to convince yourself you are being truthful. At the same time, because everyone’s body exhibits different physiological reaction to any stress or pressure, there is the need of asking baseline questions which you know are true as a sort of control(often you would ask their name or something else well known). If you can intentionally display inconsistent heart rate and breathing patterns throughout all the questions, it becomes a lot harder to interpret. That being said, definitely your best chance is to stay composed and act as you would normally even when you have to lie(most easily by finding a way to convince yourself you are being honest)

    1st - love your channel and so happy I found it--> you're right, there isn't enough love out there yet for Psych.
    2nd - the way it's filmed (with even Shawn checking the polygraph after the love declaration and his "Hmm." reaction, like he's learning that about himself), I'd say thats the way the show tells us hesbeing truthful.
    3rd - re: you asking about other folks reacting to Psych: just found this gem a few days ago:

    Pain can cause a lie to get through in a polygraph, hard pinch to the inner thigh or something may work. Unless you have a thumbtack of safety pin that you can pick yourself with when you lie

  • @moonchildyoushine2486
    @moonchildyoushine2486 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A BIT LONG, AND I AM NOT AN EXPERT BUT YOU ASKED SO HERE IS MY ANSWER. When you take a polygraph, you will be asked control questions. Simple stuff like have you ever stole money from your parents, have you ever lied to your teacher? You are asked these questions because you are likely to lie when answering at least one of these questions. A polygraph measures and records the way you react psychologically(blood pressure, pulse etc). So when being asked these questions doing something painful like biting your tongue will elevate your heart rate. The needle will fly off the charts so it would look like that is how you normally react when lying. So when they ask you the questions related to the actual situation, you don't bite your tongue you just answer the question if you lie your heart rate will elevate just not as much so it will look like you are telling the truth. Also if you are someone who sweats when you lie just wear something like antiperspirant so you won't sweat. Henry's way is a really good one you will have to practice, get something that takes your blood pressure to monitor your heart rate when you practice. Just remain calm, and have confidence.

    Unless your country permits the USA can not charge or hold anyone with diplomatic immunity. They can kill someone and the USA can not do anything. And yes it has happened before where someone kills someone and gets away with it because of diplomatic immunity. The worse they can due is not allow them back in the USA, but nothing unless their home country lifts their diplomatic immunity.
