In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

At 6:32 you're wrong. Russia mobilised its troops to support Serbia so, in pretext of a russian threat the German Empire declared war on the Russian Empire (Austria-Hungary will also declare war a few days later), France mobilised its troops in support for Russia so in pretext of a French threat the German Empire declared war on France. A few days later France will declare war to Austria-Hungary.

Such a shame that this war isn't covered much in history class in American schools. Since we didn't play a huge part in it until the very end, they only acknowledge that it happened and skip straight to WW2 where we like to portray that we "kicked ass".
In my high school, we covered WW1 for maybe a week and moved on. With WW2, we went over it for like a month.

    • @Roserytemptation
      @Roserytemptation 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Lee Everett it’s funny how it’s taught in different countries. I’m from the UK and we weren’t taught that the Americans “kicked ass” at all. Obviously the Allies would have struggled to defeat the Nazis without US help, but the US did get their arses handed to them by the Japanese which is why the had no choice but to resort to nuking civilians (I am aware if what RAF bomber command did btw, I’m not trying to play a moral high ground haha). But yeah ... thanks America!

@@RoserytemptationYour lack of education on what happened in WWll is stunning. Your arrogance is appalling. Take the time to read this post then maybe you'll understand why you own my father and uncles a debt of gratitude.
Britain was begging America for aid. Hitler was knocking on Britain's door because of the destruction caused by the Battle of Britain. In other words Britain was desperate for our help. Read from Wikipedia below.
As Roosevelt addressed Congress, the Battle of Britain was in its full destructive swing and Hitler seemed on the verge of invading Great Britain. The cash-strapped Brits desperately needed airplanes, tanks and ships to fight Hitler’s imminent invasion. For months, Britain’s prime minister, Winston Churchill, had begged Roosevelt for help, but the president was committed to abiding by Americans’ wishes to stay out of another bloody world war.
The Lend-Lease policy, formally titled An Act to Promote the Defense of the United States (Pub.L. 77-11, H.R. 1776, 55 Stat. 31, enacted March 11, 1941),[1] was a program under which the United States supplied the United Kingdom (and British Commonwealth), Free France, the Republic of China, and later the Soviet Union and other Allied nations with food, oil, and materiel between 1941 and August 1945. This included warships and warplanes, along with other weaponry. It was signed into law on March 11, 1941, and ended in September 1945. In general the aid was free, although some hardware (such as ships) were returned after the war. In return, the U.S. was given leases on army and naval bases in Allied territory during the war. Canada operated a similar smaller program called Mutual Aid.
A total of $50.1 billion (equivalent to $565 billion in 2018) worth of supplies was shipped, or 17% of the total war expenditures of the U.S.[2] In all, $31.4 billion went to Britain, $11.3 billion to the Soviet Union, $3.2 billion to France, $1.6 billion to China, and the remaining $2.6 billion to the other Allies. Reverse Lend-Lease policies comprised services such as rent on air bases that went to the U.S., and totaled $7.8 billion; of this, $6.8 billion came from the British and the Commonwealth. The terms of the agreement provided that the materiel was to be used until returned or destroyed. In practice very little equipment was returned. Supplies that arrived after the termination date were sold to Britain at a large discount for £1.075 billion, using long-term loans from the United States. Canada's Mutual Aid program sent a loan of $1 billion and $3.4 billion in supplies and services to Britain and other Allies.[3][4]
Lend-Lease effectively ended the United States' pretense of neutrality which had been enshrined in the Neutrality Acts of the 1930s. It was a decisive step away from non-interventionist policy and toward open support for the Allies. Roosevelt's top foreign policy advisor Harry Hopkins had effective control over Lend-Lease, making sure it was in alignment with Roosevelt's foreign policy goals.[5]
In the link below read about the Germany First war strategy. America focused first on the European theater to defeat Hitler and save Europe. They then were to focus on the Pacific Theater.
      Read this article.
      www.pacificwar.org.au/GermanyFirst/GermanyFirst.html
The struggle in the Pacific lasted longer because we focused more arms and men to help you. More men died in the Pacific because we were helping you. We were fighting major wars on two fronts. We should have focused on the Pacific because they directly attacked us but didn't because we were helping you.
My father fought in the Pacific. My uncles fought in WWll. I don't know where because they never talked about it. They were probably risking their lives to help you. I know a guy who's grandfather fought on D-Day to free you and the rest of Europe.
I don't know what kind of lousy education you've received but your arrogance is appalling.
Take the time to read the above material and be thankful we sent our boys to risk their lives to help you.

You wouldn’t launch a land invasion because you knew how bloody a battle it would be and just how many Americans would die, so had to drop nukes on it to win. I have a couple of facts to add...
Austro hungary was attacking Serbia for an entire year but with no success because of our discipline and our legendary Commander Zivojin Misic... People are still learning his tactics to this day.
And now the important facts... Serbia had 4 million people and had to defend againts a contry with 55 million and got defeated and forced to retreat only after Austro hungary got help from Germany and Bulgaria. Serbian soldiers were forced to retreat through Albanian mountains on the one of the worst winters ever.. We lost thousands and thousands more... And thats when our ancestots made a saying "No body knows what is real suffering until you go through Albania on foot". Serbian soldiers recovered on Greek island and they only had one thing in mind and its getting back to their homeland... When south front(Salloniki front) started to go forward Serbs were told to wait but they just wanted to get their country and their territory back... They started to run on foot for 400 km and they ran that distance in a couple of days... They didnt feel tired they didnt want to stop they were just running... Bulgarian soldiers ran from the battlefield claiming that they saw dead people running...Nobody bealived that Serbian army survived...French soldiers were riding on their horses and they couldn.t catch up. They got their whole territory back and some more...But at price of one third of our population.... YES SERBIA LOST ONE THIRD OF OUR POPULATION IN THAT WAR WE HAD 4 MILLION AND WE LOST 1.3 MILLION PEOPLE.....
But i guess talking about weapons, planes and tanks that were used are more important then pointing out people suffering and how many lifes it actually took....

I think it would have been proper to mention with shell shock soldiers that they were actually deemed as "cowards", since psychological issues weren't seen as a health issue yet at the time. They were then sent to a firing squad and killed by their own comrades, all because life in the trenches made them lose their minds.

30 - Sorry completely wrong. The British used Tear Gas initially but this was fairly non lethal. The first mass use of poison gas was actually in The Battle of Bolimov on the Eastern Front, but this was unsuccessful as the gas due to the cold temperature failed to turn into a gas and basically liquified and was basically useless. Ypres was actually the first SUCCESSFUL use of lethal poison gas. However due to the wind conditions it caused as many casualties on the German side as it did to the British as there was no proper dispensation method so the Germans basically released cylinders of gas at the front lines, but when the wind was in the wrong direction it killed the Germans as well.

It may not have been the bloodiest war in human history, but it certainly was the fiercest and scariest. Especially with the introduction of the modern grenade, tank, plane, flame thrower, airborne bombs, mobile mortar platforms, U-boat, battleship, gas, and diseases such as Trench Foot, malaria, the common cold... you get the point. Might not have had the highest death toll, but it was the most frightening war that's ever been fought thus far.
Could you imagine being stuck in a hole for months to years, constant artillery, constant rain, the constant smell of death and rotten flesh, constant gunfire, the perpetual fear that the world has gone to hell and will never come back?

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt down, saw sunset glow
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies glow

It has been cited as the most devastating epidemic in recorded world history. More people died of influenza in a single year than in four-years of the Black Death Bubonic Plague from 1347 to 1351.
