Absolutely true. The woods beautiful grain and the way Barry melded the various woods together while honoring its age and authenticity is wonderful. We are only the caretakers of these pieces for the next generation.
I know that creators like yourself have the right to keep their lives private, but thank you for sharing that you are in a relationship. I’ve always thought you have the biggest heart and deserve all the happiness. I love that someone can share your life and enjoy your creativity. Lucky person!
Whoever painted that table with that horrific, awful paint should be arrested, prosecuted, and imprisoned!!! P.S. I LOVE my Sleep Number bed! It has been a Godsend since what my neurosurgeon said was “extreme” surgery, complete with titanium rods and screws embedded in the lowest part of my spine. Yep! That surgery was a big OUCH!!!
The thing I love about this little table, is that it comes from a time when nothing was wasted. It was cobbled together with different woods to serve someone’s purpose. I bet it was well used and hard wearing. Probably well loved too and appreciated. We have become such a wasteful society that it’s shameful what we throw away. I love that you have sympathetically restored this little treasure to live again, and I bet the original creator will be delighted with the result. xx
My husband will dig things out of the dumpsters in our community often, but he rarely keeps them. He takes them to one of the local thrift stores. It's awful how much furniture and functional bicycles get thrown away.
It's because we realize deeply how fragile life is, that when we see something in ruin, we want to restore its life purpose. It's a symbol for us of our own fleeting life, and our need to bring meaning to it.
I am sure when it was created the person did not expect it to be an heirloom piece. You have created a beautiful reconstruction that will last much longer. It is beautiful.😊
Hi Barry, somebody’s love went into making that little table and with your love, patience, skill and time, you have honoured that person. That little table will live on to give joy and beauty for a long time to come thanks to you. Thank you for another wonderful video 😊
I’d love to have a piece like this in my home, nail holes and all. Just looking at it at first, green glory notwithstanding, I had a sudden strong sense that this little table had a long interesting story. I wished I could have reached out and touched it and connected. You did a masterful job making it a solid addition to a home again, a place to showcase a favoured plant or display a special book or photo. Thank you Barry for the respect you show for the work of earlier woodworkers and the beautiful wood.
Barry, I am very Happy for you !!! You have traveled the world, something only some people can dream of, you have someone special , your business is growing, and you're getting better and better at your craft 😊
I so enjoy your videos, uncovering treasures under layers of paint. But this video seemed to involve a cheap, plain little table…until the end. When you revealed the finished product, I unexpectedly burst into tears. What a lovely restoration of a handmade table. Whoever made this table would be stunned and moved by your efforts.
That table is such a cutie patootie, and you did a great job with the colour. It's hard to see that it's made with such different timbers. I also love those drawer pulls. I've never seen anything like them.
I could hear the table breath with a sigh of relief when you were removing the green paint. Your word on Birch mattress did nothing to convince me in getting a Birch I have already decided that when the time comes that's the mattress I'll be getting. Unfortunately I am unable to take advantage of the 4th of July offer. Even with the discount not sure I can afford it. I like this choice out side your norm. It show how truly skill-full you are.
That table looked like something my granddad would have made with some scrap lumber he had around. On the spur of the moment, he needed a little table and voila! He made things like that for me as a little girl. Thanks for the memory.
Just might be the most stunning walnut I've ever seen. Who would have imagined it would be found under what was probably the most overlooked piece in the shop. Great work!!
Barry so excited for you on so many counts, first you found someone special enough to go all the way to another place to spend time together, second you found this flexible Maker type place to even use tools you don’t even have sometime! Planing the walnut was such an interesting of a choice! Glad you got to see the Rockies where I am from in Alberta, Canada too!
Barry...I love your concept of true restoration. The fact that you left the original nail holes in the wood tells me you're truly a genuine restorer. So many people "modernize" they're antique furniture. Oh sure...it looks good, but the original version is lost forever...not with you, and that's what I love. Great results! One more thing...I hope your long distance relationship is the real deal and you and works fantastically for the rest of your life.
Barry: nice restoration on the table. It really looked good. This co-up workshop sounds interesting. I didn’t even realize they existed. Boy, it’s a great idea. Please talk more about this concept. Thank you. Carol from California
Virginia is a great place to find both antiques and restoration projects. You’re also within a short drive from other great sources. The community workshop is very lucky to have you! Watching the Temu video, and seeing the treasure trove of new tools that you’ve donated, is surely making them very happy to see you. I watched another video with the same drawer pulls on a dresser. Who could’ve imagined what a treasure was hiding under that nasty spray paint?
Hi Barry, and greetings from Virginia! I absolutely love what you did with that little table!! It's great that you saw the potential beneath all that ghastly green paint. There should be a law against painting such gorgeous walnut! You truly transformed this piece from trash to treasure! Well done, sir!
Better than new! Solid walnut! What an asset that whole shop was, enabling you to disassemble, plane, recut, etc more so than you usually would have been able to. That's what it needed. Excellent!
Just watch your video refinishing the green table, just wanted you to know how much I enjoy all your videos, I like watching how much you care for old pieces of furniture, keep up the good work.😊
I love how you not only respect the original builder but the piece you are working on. You don't make the pieces something they weren't built to be. I love this table and have one of a similar design.
I'm not at all surprised that this little homemade table is composed mostly of walnut! So much of my furniture is this type -- made by someone in the family with very little finesse, from trees that grow wild in Southwest Virginia, often mixing wood types. I'm so glad you were able to use most of the original wood and let it carry its history into the future. The landscape at 0:25 looks like home, to me.
Wonderful to see you using all the tools in the community workshop. Also delighted that you shared about your relationship, you are too great a guy not to share life with someone special.
Like a previous poster, I too appreciate a little insight in to your movements around this great country. I have been away from the channel for a bit as I thought you were busy elsewhere too. Now it makes sense. I love the fact that you were confident in your skill set to refinish it like you wanted. Bravo! I am recuperating from surgery so I need to go back and catch up with MCM.
When you said your were restoring this piece I didn't realise you were going to go to such extent. You've done an amazing restoration of this 'honest piece of furniture'. You're a restorer and in a way I also view you as a nurturer. You were working in the health sector and you also continue your love for furniture and transferred that passion to restore, revive and nurture vintage furniture. I wish you the best with your long distance relationship because a home maker and nurturer like you deserves the love and support of a caring partner
❤ I grew up around furniture like this most of it being homemade. My uncle was a furniture craftsman and a upholster. Very nice work. Thank you for keeping the original intent alive.
Love walnut! You did this justice. Pulls large and not the flavor of the piece but striking. Better than the thin originals used to make do with the person who made it. Used what he could. Again, very healing to watch,Barry.
Beautiful little table. It reminds me of the milking stool my gr grandpa made for my gr grandma. I even have a picture of her using it. It is unlike any milking stool I have ever seen.
Although I'm not thrilled with the alteration of this antique, Barry, the finished product looks very nice. The original character is gone, but it's obvious what vision you had in mind. Recently subscribed here, your restoration channel is well done and I'm looking forward to going back and visiting your previous videos. Nice to see you love what you do!
Gosh you just really know how to make a video. So calming and peaceful. Your voice and music suits your content Barry. Always a story behind what you restore. Also happy to hear you’re a travelin man these days to see a lady. I wish you much happiness. When you were in Norway did you lose your mind when you saw that whale? I know I did when I saw my first whale. So beautiful. I’ve enjoyed all these resent videos. I feel like we’re getting spoiled 🇺🇸❤️
That walnut was a beautiful unexpected surprise. I could almost feel this sad little table sighing with relief, very nicely done. I think I would have filled the holes without trying to disguise them, more because they're dirt-catchers if not, but it's nice to see the "history" of the piece left intact when much of it wasn't... intact that is. Kia kaha from Aotearoa New Zealand.
You took something that looked like trash and made it beautiful, even with the nail holes in the top. You did such an amazing job. I have watched most of your restorations (bing watched) and honestly this is the one of the most dramatic changes…thank you. As an aside note…you could easily be a writer or a narrator…you have a way with words (and furniture). “If you do what you love…you will never work another day in your life”
A lovely silk purse from a sad looking sow's ear! But it's what you usually manage to do, so I'm not too surprised. It was helped along by the original walnut, but you made it look all-of-piece.
Thank you Barry, for saving this poor, old, hall-table, which, if you hadn’t, would be firewood in anyone else’s hands. Trash to treasure yet again! It’s nice that you found somewhere to work comfortably and suitably equipped as you follow your heart. Now two cities have the benefit of your woodworking abilities! I have been quite a few places overseas, but only Norway, Oslo to be exact, that you showed today. My favourite places ever, were Chesky Crumlov in the Czech Republic and St Wolfgang in Austria. Two very pretty and interesting tiny towns to visit and relax in. It’s good to see you doing more on You Tube again!❤️😊🦘🇦🇺
One of the best parts of woodworking is discovering what is hiding under all that paint. I love finding items like this just for my own satisfaction and its great to build my skills. Great job as always!!....Good Karma on your journey!
We have a table that is been in my family since well before I was born. It needs a refinish. Just some tlc. The wood is in great shape still but the finish needs love especially on the top.
Being born and raised in the mountains of Virginia, I am quite partial to my state. Even though you are only here part-time, let me welcome you to our family as you have welcomed us to yours through your channel! Virginia is a wonderful place for history, furniture, and love! Glad you you found all 3 here! Beautiful job on the table. Can't wait to see the next project!
Barry, I was so happy to see that you wanted to keep this hand made farm table as original at what it once looked like when it was made. I believe you did amazing job. It looks awesome. I love finding old furniture that someone has made. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟
Such a beautiful restoration!! I admire the fact that you showed so much respect for the unknown history of the table. One never knows what that may have been!! Admire your mad skills!!
It came out really nice. If the height seems too short, some of the restoration companies make a brass cup caster in a square style, which would protect the table leg and give a bit of height.
Congratulations on your 3 year long distant relationship. You should make a video as how yall met, have you talked about moving to the others state, pet lover etc. I love home made pieces, my uncle was a cabinet maker (minister was his real job) he made the most beautiful pieces. Has it already been three years? I remember your first videos like it was yesterday. Cool that you’re making trips to the south. Hopefully, you will eventually move down here!

Barry you honored the original builder of that table. You recreated their legacy in a beautiful fashion. Awesome job!
Your words made me choke up 🥹❤️
It's the honest truth. It was such an privilege to watch the caring he put into that piece.
@@Kmi4880 I agree
Absolutely true. The woods beautiful grain and the way Barry melded the various woods together while honoring its age and authenticity is wonderful. We are only the caretakers of these pieces for the next generation.

I totally relate to your thoughts. 🤍

It has a history. Probably a happy family history.
If wood could talk, what a story this table could tell. Certainly a happy ending. Thanks for such a beautiful re-creation.
It's because we realize deeply how fragile life is, that when we see something in ruin, we want to restore its life purpose. It's a symbol for us of our own fleeting life, and our need to bring meaning to it.
My goodness look at all of the life she has left in her now. Stunning!!!
I am sure when it was created the person did not expect it to be an heirloom piece. You have created a beautiful reconstruction that will last much longer. It is beautiful.😊

Clean lines, perfect color. You can hear the little table breathe a happy sigh and smile again.
You never cease to amaze me. Who would have guessed that, under that humble and messy green paint, would be a beauty made of walnut. So, so pretty.
Barry it’s so nice to see you back to doing some furniture restoration! Thank you for taking the time to share your work with us.
What a little gem and what a story it could tell if it could talk 😊😊😊. Beautiful restoration Barry.
Love how this turned out! It still looks homemade, and it’s delightful. 👍🏼🥰
Barry, I am very Happy for you !!! You have traveled the world, something only some people can dream of, you have someone special , your business is growing, and you're getting better and better at your craft 😊
the drawer pulls were meant for the table...looking good...
What a wonderful transformation!!!!
Thank you
A “My Fair Lady” story. Plain has become so pretty.
I love how it turned out. The top part, holy smokes that wood is beautiful.
Top job! Such a cheery little workhorse of a table. It looked so proud of its new garb.
I so enjoy your videos, uncovering treasures under layers of paint. But this video seemed to involve a cheap, plain little table…until the end. It's sensational!!! It makes my heart so happy to see pieces being saved and restored to originally intended. Well done, sir! 🎉
Hello from Ireland ☘️ and thank you Barry ~ every vlog is a joy to watch and this was another beautiful rescue!
What a difference gluing the top together did for the table. It really gave the table a finished look. Thanks for taking us along 👍.
Thank you so much
Thank you Barry, for showing us that even old beat up things are worth the effort to make them usable again. Excellent restoration.
I hope for your relationship to continue to grow and strengthen through the difficulties of distance and travel. ♡

I love how you made it look nicer but let it continue to identify as a farm table. Now the original builder lives on as well ❤
Beautiful job..faithful to the original carpenter
I love how you not only respect the original builder but the piece you are working on. You don't make the pieces something they weren't built to be. I love this table and have one of a similar design.

Wow, thank you
Toujours une délice de regarder votre programme. Mille Mercis, Barry.
You did a TERRIFIC restoration/remodel of this simple, very rustic farm table. It looks great! Thank you for leaving its blemishes, where possible.❤

Barry, the before and after photos were striking. You did an amazing job with this table. 👏
Good job! Now is a new table!🌷🌷
What a beautiful little piece! You have such a talent, and I really enjoy the community space y’all have!😊❤😊
We have a table that is been in my family since well before I was born. It needs a refinish. Just some tlc. The wood is in great shape still but the finish needs love especially on the top.

Gorgeous! Another great job.
It really turned out beautifully. I love it!
It came out really nice. If the height seems too short, some of the restoration companies make a brass cup caster in a square style, which would protect the table leg and give a bit of height.
What an amazing difference! Well done!
I love your honest approach especially how this piece turned out
What a wonderful and serendipitous find! You made it look so beautiful.
you are a lovely person - you deserve the best!!
So happy for you 😊
Wow, you really did an amazing transformation on this one. Very pretty stain color. And congratulations on your relationship!!
Is a beautiful Job! 👏🏾
Barr, that is one very sad looking table! What a lovely transformation.
Congratulations on your 3 year long distant relationship. You should make a video as how yall met, have you talked about moving to the others state, pet lover etc.
I love home made pieces, my uncle was a cabinet maker (minister was his real job) he made the most beautiful pieces. He said he always used hardwood and no fake stuff
I wish he was here today, would have like for him to make my kitchen and farm table
Has it already been three years? I remember your first videos like it was yesterday. Cool that you’re making trips to the south. Hopefully, you will eventually move down here!
Beautiful
It turned out so nice.
Beautiful resororarion. Loved it.
That looks beautiful. Great 👍 job
